Picked up this Delta 11-100 yesterday at the swap meet. Pretty nice shape, especially considering it dates to about 1960. Paint is super nice, shiny, probably nicest I've ever seen on a used drill press. Motor is missing the start cap and the cover for it, finding a cap shouldn't be hard, cover will probably be a little tougher. Came without a chuck key, it's a strange one, Jacobs KR, almost thought I didn't have one in my vast collection, but then turned one up. Gave it a quicky clean up to remove the rust from some of the bare metal surfaces, cleans up pretty well. Even came with a retirement light.

Finally had a few garage sales around here and did find an interesting old Luther drill press, a bit older than what usually is posted here. It would clamp to a bench, and there is no gearing mechanism to increase the speed but there is a gear and lever arrangement to raise the table to the bit. Needs a bit of rust cleanup and lube. Couldn't pass it up for $5.

That is a nice press, and I would bet that any cap cover from a Delta motor would fit. Check around for dead motors and I bet you find what you need.

That's a slick Delta DP there 454. Boy they don't give you much adjustment room on that motor mount do they? Great find.

One of these days I’ll get to this 1951 Delta 17” DP. I’ve had it for a while and all of its parts are packed away in boxes. It needs a restoration. I just haven’t had the time. Same goes for the Unisaw sitting next to it. Since I recently got an up and running Craftsman floor standing DP, that old Delta got pushed back on my list of things to do. Maybe I’ll do it this winter.

Jim C.

I finally finished it. :)

Looks great, even has the often missing belt guard knob. I love those Delta 17's, have a bunch of them. Still working on the motor?

That looks great! Congratulations.

Thanks Don! Hope all is well with you!

Thanks 454! It’s definitely a solid machine. Not only is the knob present, but 1/4” steel ball and expansion spring are in place so the knob operates as designed. We’re in the process of moving so I already prepped the motor for the move. See photo below.

Beautiful work Jim!

Many thanks for the kudos!

Did some rearranging on Craftsman drill press row. Three Walker Turner products in the elevated rear. All Atlas in the front save for the lone Central Specialty "bottle capper" in the foreground. Now I have more room for more DPs. IMG_0729.JPG

I had started a thread on this 1938 Delta 220, but wanted to also post it here on the vintage drill press thread.

Motor runs outstanding, another smooth Delta repulsion motor with a lot of brush life left. Has all the goodies, the retirement lamp, the on-off rod, and then that unusual jack shaft pulley. Slows the chuck speed to a crawl, and looks cool doing it -even though it was probably dangerous as hell in any garage or shop!

JoCo summed it for me, Delta badges were impressive. I think they had the best badges back in the day. "Made in the United States of America" right on the front of your machine is badass. That's a nice find. Interesting how the slow speed was achieved. Just a bit faster than the natural process of erosion. 🤣 When I found my Can/Buffalo the fellow had mounted a piece of scrap steel way up high with a washing machine motor bolted on to slow it down. It wasn't pretty but got the job done. Dangerous, well anyone who steps up to the plate better remember this:

Heck of a machine find! That slow speed is a bit odd but does the trick !

**question- I see you starting a restoration. Do you have interest a spare retirement light from one of those? I have a spare and cant tell if your's is in need of replacement ? If you are not interested, maybe someone else is ? ** If so, please pm me so as not to clutter this thread.... I would sell or trade for plomb/proto

Ok, I am in a bit of a quandary- I both am super excited for you with this picture and also am equally filled with hatred/jealousy that you A) have these many cool machines, B) have the space to devote to these :) Heck of a job restoring the ones that you have restored and the ones that are cleaned up sure look nice! When you have some time you should take a full lineup picture but then again, maybe thats not possible :) I am glad I was able to contribute those DP manuals to your collection! They are where they belong.

I really like my collection but except for a few, mine are a dime a dozen on the second hand market. It's just a process of putting them all together under one roof. That Delta of yours, however, is a true treasure!

Smokeshow, appreciate the offer, but I've got 2 lamps now, both work. I should start a thread on just how well made those Hubbell lamp internals are lol! Actual nuts and screws inside!58038.jpeg

Ohhh…ok I get it, haha hadn't thought of that one. But then I also didn't know they brought high prices. Geuss I should have though since all things like this are getting there. Always happens to me about the same time I get interested in something.

I pulled this 1937-38 Delta out of a scrap pile. The spindle was pulled. I took it home on friday and cleaned it, and the original paint is absolutely perfect. I put in a spare spindle and the run out is 2 thou. Original motor purs. I got real luck. Can't believe someone would give up on it!

Smokeshow, ill gladly take the light for this machine!

Cheers. I've had it a good few years now, but decided to strip it down just after I moved here, so it was in bits for ages. Bought a modern drill a few week ago, which was promptly returned, but that gave me a push to get this one back up & running. Paint job is rough as a bears ****, :D but it's better than the flaking green Hammerite which was on there previously.

Cheers. Is there no way you can make space to keep it? Those multiple gang units are things of beauty. I'd love to have space for one of those. Any photo's of it?
I really need the space, only having 260sq foot total and it takes up a lot of it, also I haven't used it in nearly a year since I bought the Bridgeport and it just became a storage table, the other issue is once the DSG lathe goes in there wouldn't be enough room to get it out past it without taking the DSG out first and I don't want to move that 2 1/2 ton lump more than once.
What I would really like is an Arboga or similar gear head drill.
I need to move my current lathe into the space the drill occupies, its too close to the Bridgeport where it is and you cant use the full table travel, this would leave enough gap for a small cabinet of tooling with shelves above, the DSG will go pretty much in the middle of the space with the headstock aimed towards the door so long stock can be fed into the spindle bore.
That said I will miss having a drill that can push a 1" drill without a pilot in steel.

My Delta Slow Speed. I believe it is a 1940. I changed the bearings on this one. The fast speed above I did not as its only 2 thou out. This one is 3 thou with the new bearings. Factory tolerance was 5 thousands. I really love drilling holes with these machines.

Delta made nice machines. A buddy (RIP Carl) many years ago had the shop he worked for give him the old shop DP, a Delta, when they bought a new DP for the shop and the Father/Founder (retired) happened to look the new DP over. - and asked what they did with the old one? "We gave it to Carl." "You should have given him the new one..." was his response - Carl said he was right...

That was a fine runner! I drilled many a hole with that DP! I even made a SS cylinder pin for a revolver on that DP treating it as a lathe.
