What I just did is child's play to you homie... I do not envy that at all...

LOL, I thankfully only manage the hosting end, which I have down to a science. There are several teams supporting the applications, not to mention the network, storage and infosec teams that have their roles to play as well, so the burden is far from on my shoulders alone.

Everyone had been preparing for months with extensive planning and testing. 9 hours into a "30 minute" cut-over conference call and we discovered a piece of ancient functionality had never been considered by one dev team, and that calling that link post-upgrade would take down an application server with one click. And of course, no amount of testing in staging ever equates real user traffic. Fun times.

I just logged in for first time with new forum software. I made a lengthy post with half a dozen pics and it was MUCH easier than b4.

Well done and thankyou.

Ryan, thank you for saving my life or at least keeping me out of the hospital. With Garage Journal down for a day I was thinking of jumping off the roof. Living in a one-story house means I'd probably just break something so I went to bed instead of getting out the stepladder. It was just like getting sick and staying home from school -- nothing to do and nothing to watch on TV (I'm from the rabbit ear generation). New look and new features means I have some learning to do. Old dog, new trick, no problem. Thanks for all the work you do to keep us happy.

I'll be honest, some thing I like, such as pic posting, some I don't, quoting and multi-quotes. There's a learning curve. In the end, I'll make the adjustments, and it'll be better than the old. THe Pics is a huge improvement and worth the hassle.

I would like to know that as well. Can anyone answer what the points count is for under the user's avatar?

Thank you
It's part of the XenForo trophy system. They can be awarded for certain quantities of posts or likes or whatever... It's a way to see the level of experience of the user. I'm not sure if Ryan has fully enabled that yet...

I'm not into such things, but will eventually get it all figured out and set up for those that are.

If you click on on your avatar and look in your profile, and then click on the points it will show you more detail...

I do like being able to see the number of messages someone has posted, and the title ladder feature seems a bit more self explanatory to me, assuming the titles make sense. ;-) Points are a bit of a mystery at first glance.

Thank you for answering my question.

We'll just wait and see if this is something Ryan utilized or not but I was just curious.

Yeah, I wanna play with all that stuff to see the capabilities... Just have more pressing things. It will be on the list for next week for sure.

The more I use this version the more I like it. Way, way, way easier on my phone than the old version. I'm also on a mil forum and it absolutely ***** in comparison to what you have here. So much faster, so much easier, and I'm sure as bugs are worked out it will only get better.

Looks good.

a few things could help me ...
1) why is there so much empty space under a post before it gets to the next post? Each post is taking up the whole screen requiring a lot of scrolling.
2) the words and letters look green to me. Can i set a preference so that it is black so I can get a bit better contrast compared to the background?

@Ryan can't believe you've updated so much so quickly! You're a machine! Just wanted to say kudos for being open to feedback and accepting some input from all of us. I for one really appreciate the open dialogue. And it's looking great!

Well, I see when 2 people liked one of my posts earlier (you were one of them, thanks), I have 2 points now. So I assume if someone likes what you're doing on here you get a point

--edit--
Nope, I'm wrong. I found it by clicking my username at the top, trophy points, it awards points for different achievements.

I've done a lot of launches in my life and expected this one to be amongst the hairiest from a criticism standpoint. I mean, this was a MAJOR change.... and I imagined name calling, trash talking, and just general hazing for days. I was nervous about it man...

But we launched early by mistake... and because we launched early, the site was obviously in a bad state. Rather than ***** and moan about it, people got behind me and just started feeding me constructive criticism and feedback... I mean, it's been amazing. I am so damned relieved I could cry. Sincerely.

And honestly, I've really liked some of the changed I've implemented from that feedback.

In short, you guys have made this so much easier on me than you could have... and I am SOOOO thankful for it fellas. Sincerely.

Site looks great. I'm looking forward to spending a lot more time on here.

Is it now possible to (more easily) change our user names?

Hey! The quote function works for me!

Don't let this turn into a telenovela, Ryan! Be a man and say, "yep, exactly as I planned."

Good changes...

Look, we may be a whiney community when to comes to tool COO, but are we really that harsh on you? Wait, you weren't made in China, right?

I need a break, so let me give you some context...

My neighbor has had secret service stationed outside his property since early this year for reasons we won't break forum rules for. I don't like this neighbor much, but have grown to become pals with his secret service detail. They are good guys... interested in cars, tools, working... you know, real ****... I bring them coffee at least one morning a week.

Anyway, about a month ago they apprehended someone right outside my property. Was this some crazy political activist or the like? Nope. A banned Garage Journal member looking to get even.

So yeah... My mind tends to wonder every now and then.

It took me a minute to figure out if I click on 'Forums' and not the arrow, I see the forums.

I'm loving this site.....HUGE improvement. And a lot faster.

A real life stalker?
Someone needs to make his birth certificate a worthless document.
It's only a matter of time before it's someone else.

Upon further playing with the new format, I have noticed that the garages section is not showing next to user's profile. Is that feature gone?

I've had plenty of those experiences in my life... mostly from guys that don't like traditional hot rods much... But this was surreal simply because there were two guys in suits putting him in a black Tahoe... It freaked me out.

There's a ton more to that story, but... yeah... nuts.

Looking MUCHAS Bettah, Really dig the new font over the TNR one which seemed crunched... plus plenty of posts on the page, also makes things easier to grok.

Now if I can just figure out how to make this multi-quote thing work... it's like trying to learn how to drive a stick shift if you were raised on Model T's...

All in all, Ryan, so far so good. Keep on rolling!!!

OMG are you serious? All the whining from people on how bad this transition was going to be and there would be a mass exodus? This upgrade ROCKS! Look out people the sky is falling  Awesome job Ryan!!!!

A vast improvement! I'm liking it so far.

Any chance you could enable the feature that allows individual users to switch to a dark theme mode? Some of us older fellas have a hard time with bright white backgrounds. Thanks!
