Well the problem I was having still isn't fixed yet. When I click on a thread I have not read yet, it takes me to some random post in the middle or end of the thread, and I have to scroll all the way up to the beginning. Getting pretty irritating.
When you click on the thread title, it's supposed to take you to the newest post that you have not read yet. If that's not working for you, not sure what's going on as it works me as well as on other forums I frequent that run on XF.

But if the thread has multiple pages, instead of clicking on the thread title, if you click on the page number it will take you to the top of that page & ignores the unread posts queue. Maybe that might work better for you?

I do exactly that but it doesn't work that way, for me anyway. When I click on a thread, I read it till the end, and I mark it "READ". When I go back to to it the next day and click on "NEW" it takes me to some random post that isn't even new that I haven't "read". I liked the old system better. I'll deal with it I guess. Hope my comment doesn't get me banned. Just stating what is happening on my comp. :) Im sure this whole change will have a lot of little bugs and annoyances we will need to get used to.

I liked the old system better but Ryan has chose the imo inferior platform.
Not me, I used to prefer vB but now that I have used XF for some years now I feel it's so much better than vB. vB is outdated IMO. I'm really glad Ryan made the move. But as with any software change, it'll take a while to fine tune everything. For the most part, Ryan did good & the forums is great so far.

Yes I guess you are right. I'm old and have been used to the way it was for 10 years or so. Old guys hate change. I'll get over it LOL. And before somebody says it, YES, I need to get with the program. LOL

I just tested this again right now. If I click on the title of a thread that I've read before & has new posts in, it'll take me to the newest post that I have not read.

After I have read all the new posts, if I then click on the thread title, it'll take me to the very 1st post of that thread.

I don't use the mark all forums read button, so not sure if there's some sort of glicth & that has something to do with it.

Haha, I hear ya, I really don't like change either & I'm not even that old yet! When I first encountered XF on a forum that switched over to it, I absolutely hated it. It took me a while to get used to it. And as time went on the forum got fine tuned. Then I really started to like it. XF has been around for a while now & over the version updates it's just kept getting better.

Try giving it some time, well really there's no other choice (lol), as you get used to it you may just like it & totally forget the old platform. :)

I guess I didn't really mean inferior. I just meant what I was used to.

Cobbler.... I'm not seeing that arrow. Can you post a pic?
I've seen it in the bottom right corner, but it seems random when it shows up and then disappears. Seems we all have to figure out the nuances with this new format. At least my spell check still works here LOL

As you scroll down you should see the arrow on the bottom right corner. But when you get to the very end of the page it'll disappear. Then if you scroll back up a bit it'll pop back up again.

Just sharing what I observe. When your used to a format for ten years and it suddenly changes format, look, feel, color, etc, some of us older fellas take a bit longer to get used to it. Just wait till you get old and you will know what I mean.

I'm not complaining, just my opinion.

And that is kinda what I was getting at. This format is somewhat confusing and UNintuitive for those of us who have lost a few brain cells as we get older LOL. I'm getting used to it but it's just different.

A few of us have talked about this. It would be better, in my opinion, if it took you to the last again. If you're going to re-read something in a thread you've just caught up on, it's more likely the most recent posts, not from weeks or months or years ago. If you like to log in, catch up on all your favorite threads, then go back to start replying to some of them - answering questions, posting a requested photo, etc, the next time you open the thread, it takes you back to page 1 post 1. On mobile the only way I have found to get to the end again is scroll all the way down and hit the >> button. Desktop is a little easier. You can just hit the highest page number before you open the thread.

It seems like the software wants you to read-reply, read-reply, read-reply, etc, instead of read, read, read, do some work, think it over, eat lunch, find the shop book with the answer to someone's question, take a picture of the rare tool someone thinks they also found, then reply, reply, reply.

It may not be something Ryan has control of. Or it's preferred the way it is by others. Idk.

I agree... That's always sort of bugged me and oddly, it's a hard thing to configure. I am looking back into this now.

It’s a random thing too. Sometimes when I click on a new thread with multiple pages it takes me to the first post, sometimes it takes me to the last post, sometimes it drops me in the middle of who knows where LOL

This randomness will eventually go away... Essentially, its your old site cookie clashing with the new. Once your browser gets it figured out, the consistency will come.

Alternatively, you could log off, clear all browser cookies, log back in, and it should work afterwards...

I did that the other day, but I'll try it again.

Oh joy. Someone that can relate to my terror.
Yes. Very much. I am running phpBB2.x, which I have rewritten vast parts of. Still, it is crufty and in need of a refresh. Considering a migration to Discourse, but even the migration would need to be created essentially from scratch, as there is no straightforward migration path.

So yeah, terror is exactly right.

@Ryan

I had originally not been a fan of the font but it's a mute issue now. I'm happy. Only have 2 requests, as mentioned before the push notifications and would it be possible to add like a night mode/dark theme?

Overall awesome job. The site runs MUCH better.

Found a neat little feature: The little "Alert" bell at the top right. Click on it and you can see who has responded to your posts. Handy if you are trying to get a question answered or to see if the joke you posted was actually funny.

Dark theme... This summer... I hope.

Push notification. I believe only Google Chrome offers that... I will research and fully implement anything I can.

Ryan, I itch a lot less now than when the change first happened. It's a combination of the wonderful work you have done to fix the issues we were presented with. Job well done. I'm sure the scab will eventually fall off and the farmers tan lines will fade.

Thank you for a job well done. I'm getting used to this place again. ooooh, a dark theme... I can have "dark days"... look forward to that.

Good work Ryan! I was not a fan of the original font, but like the current one. The main reason I came to this thread was to say that I REALLY like the OP banner. I cannot remember how many times I had to go back to the first post to see who the OP was. I have done several upgrades in my career and only the errors the end users see count. Great job!

Here is what might be a strange praise... I use an iPad via Chrome most of the time and the button placement of the new format lets me browse entirely left handed. Mostly with my left thumb. Why does this matter? My wife likes me to rub her back while I browse, and she sleeps on my right side.

I’m hoping once I get used to this site, I’ll like jalopy better LOL I never go there because of the format.
I guess I must not be utilizing the site to its fullest. I really didnt notice any negatives, I did like that it was easier to post pics.

At first, when I got into the new format, I went oh **** what have they done to us now? But like everyone has said, it takes a little time to get used to it and they were right. Even with very little computer knowledge, I have gotten back to being comfortable with reading my favorite threads. Thanks, Ryan and all those who have helped make this better.
