The variable speed no longer works consistently on my non-Fuel 1/4” hex impact driver. Any idea how much it would be to repair, or am I better off replacing? I’ve had it for at least 4 years now and there are a few miles on it

It should be 5 years. You can try some plastic safe contact cleaner on the switch and see if that helps.

1-800-SAWDUST just call and ask them. They will ask for a number on the nameplate that will tell them the date of manufacture and if it's less than 5 years they will either repair or replace it.

If you're lucky. Their warranty USED to be good, but 2021 isn't what it used to be.

I took my one year old M18 tank sprayer to an authorized service center in March. Last week, I got a call back saying they wouldn't repair it, as it was "worn", and they had no proof of purchase. I lightly used the damned thing half a dozen times, and my response was that I purchased it THERE, so they had the receipt in their files.

Yesterday I got a call to pick it up, and would need to pay $20 for shipping (what's up with that?). I have no idea what happened behind the scenes, but the fact that they have a four month backlog isn't encouraging, and the fact they they're playing with people's warranties like that is well, disgusting. But what bothers me the most is that a tool that I BABIED, failed so easily that it's essentially disposable, when they have the nerve to charge $300+ premium prices just because it takes their batteries. If I come off as pissed, it's because I am.

But hey, good luck.

I have never taken any Milwaukee tool anywhere for repair. I call the number, they Email me a shipping label, I put whatever it is in a box and I take it to FedEx. Two weeks later it shows up at my door. I've done it this way for at least 10 years.

Milwaukee isn’t what it used to be. Their problem as of late seems to me that they spend far more effort coming up with neat new tools, and not enough time developing them into a quality product. Not only has the quality over the last several years gone down (TTI?), but they are pretty bad about warranties. I have grenaded a few 1/2 drills over the last two years, and they picked there noses while deciding if they should warranty the drills or not… They claimed I needlessly abused the tools since I grenaded the gear box using a #19 M5 tap drill… give me a break, that’s a tool issue and not user error if a little drill bit like that destroys a gear box. it was about 6 weeks before I got them back. Poor customer service.

did you use the online e service or a service center? I’ve sent back almost 30 tools now most with no receipt and they always repaired or replaced with no questions asked.

Is it brushless? If it has brushes I would take a look at the brushes first. I put 3 sets in mine over 9yrs before I got a newer one. There very easy to see and change. Open the back cap up and you will see them. I believe it's a part that's under $20.

The fact that you’ve had to send back 30 tools for repair pretty much confirms that quality has deteriorated over the years.

Sounds like they’re peddling junk, at a premium price these days.

We have 8 or 10 of their cordless drills at the shop that are used every day. Other than brush cards not a single issue with any of them. If the quality has gone down any I would know it. Compared to Milwaukee you couldn't give me a POS DeWalt cordless.

Or they could be cheap yard sale/Craigslist finds that are returned by the new owner for "warranty". (Not saying that's the case here, but it happens).

My last M18 Fuel drill failed a year past warranty when a plastic gear in it stripped. I only replaced it with another Milwaukee because I have the batteries already and needed something immediately. Milwaukee drill chucks are notoriously unreliable, though you can replace them with excellent Rohm chucks at considerable expense.

Assuming you serial number is intact and it's not out of warranty, I would just send it in using the E service site. What issue the issue?

That's correct. I've never ever sent in a receipt. They fix it or replace it and send it back. Why do people insist on going to some local repair place when you can have FedEx pick it up at your house (I live about 2 minutes from a FedEx store so I just take it there) and drop it off at your house. What am I missing here?

Yeah I never go to a local service center and always call the 1-800 number or email the manufacturer direct. I did that once before in the early 1990s and though my Bosch drill was under warranty, they accused my of abusing it. It was the Bosch 1929 VSR. I called the 1-800 number and they send me a prepaid UPS label and in about 2 weeks I got it back repaired.

I just sent a m18 hacksaw and grinder back a few weeks ago using the online option and other than having to drop off at a fedex it was completely painless no receipt needed just a serial number and they sent back two new replacements within a day of receiving the broken units. The downside to no receipt is if you unknowingly bought stock that is a few years old you have already lost that time.
