It was late and I had been cleaning a bunch of all-steel items. I should have taped it off, or better yet, just used a scraper and hand-held brush.

I saw a garage door open this afternoon at the house where I hit an estate sale up the street. They are having another sale soon but I grabbed a few things mostly out of one drawer that I could get to.

I bought these shelving units off of FBMP. In this day of outrageous lumber prices, you couldn’t get the materials for what I paid - $100 per unit. They’re 8’x6’x2'. I took the actual shelves off to move them.

Last but now least is my most unusual find (this was actually the first item I bought this morning)
It is a futurestic looking version (think Buck Rogers) of the old Stanley "egg beater" hand crank drill.
Made by "Wright Mfg. Co." but I can't find anything about it on-line
It has a Stainless 1/4"(?) jacobs chuck (no key) and once you depress the lever on top you can crank it either forward or backwards

If any of youse guy know anything about this drill please let me know....

I paid $6 dollars for it

Total for the day = $29 bucks

Nice deals on the guitar stuff.

That drill is the coolest!

Try posting and asking on the vintage Wright thread. If nothing else, at least the cool drill will be documented where it can be found later!

Yeah, I'm always on the out look for instrument stuff....I'm all the time buying used guitars and fixing them up and up-grading the tuners, etc.

Is this Wright Mfg the same as the Wright tool company?
Wow, cool drill!

What does the thumb lever Do? Lock it?
Yep, it locks the crank!
It's a great conversation piece....I watched at least five guy pass the table and pick it up and check it out before I moved in and claimed it - LOL

I have no clue on the company names and if they are the same or affiliated. Again, just post over there and ask?

Looks surgical from here. Is it a stainless body, or just regular steel?
The chuck is stainless and I believe the shaft is also but the rest of the body is aluminum.

There is a number (945) on the inside of the side cover.....when I google "Wright mfg. co. hand drill 945" it comes back with mostly bits & braces (the "original" cordless drill )

Wright Medical, now a portion of Stryker, used to make medical implants. I wonder if this was part of their past tool kits, need to get into their history books, see if they ever used to be Wright Mfg., sold the tools w the implant, etc.

That would make a lot of sense. Sterilization nightmare with all those teeth, though (chuck, gears).

I love Hilti! Austrian made to last. Picked up a pair of these DX351 “ramset” type nailers - $5 each! With the carrying cases and manuals.

RTM nailed it  This drill is a BONE drill
I found a ebay listing for the same Wright bone drill but I can't post the link.....just search "Wright hand bone drill with chuck and two drill bits"
I also found other bone drills for sale that look similar to the Wright.

Hey, you want your Garage Journal mancard revoked? Every body here knows you don’t build with drywall screws! You gotta use Headlock screws for a hip replacement. And I’d recommend a Diablo tungsten sawzall blade for removing that old hip joint. :lol_hitti

I was able to hit two early estate sales today, and I think I did pretty good on the antique front:

A Yankee no 75 push drill, Plomb WF-6, Craftsman c-97, Bell System C driver, Plomb 8pt, Stanley dwelling jig in the box, the green box is from the USA Signal Corps. and this neet celluloid poster:

Do to the nature of the injury that broke my Dad's hip and his asthma issues dealing with the anesthetic (being totally put under), my dad had an epidural.

He said that the worst part was the Dr standing on the table (for leverage I suppose), the sound of the saws/drill and smell and sight of the smoke from the burning bone. Otherwise he didn't feel a thing.

Also, my Dad is a tall guy 6.5ft and has (apparently) a very large and long leg bones. They had to special order his hip socket/ball, they either made one to order or found one somewhere. But it took two days to get there.

Yikes... Health insurance wouldn't cover a blindfold and loud music in headphones???

Mike
He has to wear hearing aides AND his sense of smell has been gone for years due to sinus surgeries...

I guess those saws/drills really whine?

His orthopedic surgeon was very impressed with the size of the femur ball (don't know the name for it). We suspect it now resides on the doctor's bookcase as WTF specimen.

Wow...

In a prior life, I dreamed of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. I definitely don't have the stomach for it.

HECK BMW . You killed it! That Craftsman C96 ratchet isn't common and is made by Snap on as I am sure you probably know. But the best find is the Plomb spinner! Major suckage

I dunno, I’ve got a toggle bolt in my left upper arm (humerus for the OCD among us), anchoring my bicep.

My second yard sale of the day, I should have just gone home afterwards rather than cruise 30 more locations, but you never know right?
A digging bar for $2.
A pair of Jorgensen 72 I-Bar clamps (one of which unfortunately is not about a 48 I-Bar Clamp....)
A Jorgensen 3724 HD with wood handle.
A cool Pony bar clamp with a steering wheel
A pair of Stanley frame clamps.
Two Cincinnati Tool Co. Pipe clamps. (one has a weird, hard to position stop. It shoves in with brute force & loosens with flex & wiggle)
The clamps were all taped togeather in a bundle with the price of $8.00.

Second installment of the second yard sale:
A $3.00 green tool box of wrenches which had 2 baby sk & 7 well loved Sabina Mac wrenches.
A $5.00 box of wrenches that I bought for the 22mm Gearwrench that filled a hole in my box.
Also had this Holex ratchet wrench with bib snap reverse buttons. Klunky, but beefy. Never heard of the company before.
A Flying V 3/8 Craftsman
A set of Proto SAE 1/2" impact sockets 1/2 to 1-1/8 that I negotiated down to $20.

That pipe clamp stop is installed backwards. When you apply pressure it is supposed to try to tip up into the pipe.

Third installment from second yard sale of the day:
A pair of Robo-Grips & a Greenlee fish tape Dollar each.
Full bottles 2 cycle oil & chemicals all 25cents each
Bucket stackers, $1.00 for the lot.
A shop vac with the fresh filter $2.00
After all those purchases were loaded, I went to 30 more yard sales & found absolutely nothing to collect.
And finally I had an appointment from a market place listing to meet a fella & brought home a new in box
Impact & charger battery kit.
Not gonna say what I paid for them. ;)

My neighbor and I went early (8:00 is early for us) to a garage sale in Zephyr Cove, NV. The items were being sold in lots but at very reasonable prices so we had to weed out plenty of Taiwanium. Here are a couple of preliminary pictures.

Here are my tools more carefully laid out. The second picture is Williams, the third is Thorsen. Next is S-K, the obligatory Barcalo, a Duro ignition wrench, a Hinsdale DBE and a Fiat wrench oozing oil. Okay it’s really permatex.
