Old Radar, those sockets look like early Duro/Indestro, especially the one on the left. The one on the right could be early SK if it has the dots on either side, hard to tell from the pic. Keep in mind that I'm no expert but I've done a bit of research on similar finds lately.

OR, I agree with saukit for the socket on left. The one on the right could be New Britain, though they usually have “Made in USA” in three lines to the right of the size.

Thanks gents, but there is nothing--no dots, no stars, no trapizoids and no COO--nothing besides the 1/2 on one and the 1-2 on the other.

Check out Nork LA for your caliper.
Thanks RTM!

As an aside there’s not much info out there on this company, if anyone knows more it would be appreciated. Might be best to update this thread which ended up in a dead end several years ago…

I made one stop planned and found one TOO that was a dud for me.

The planned one had lots of interesting old stuff (that part of town...), but minimal of interest to bring home. I grabbed a kero lamp fount that I'll need to find a burner for (as it has a Mfg, Electric conversion...) and a barometer, that has seen better days that the guy said ":just take it".

From that, I had one that has a busted glass so if the glass cleaned up, AND fit, I hoped I could make one nice one from two dead/ugly...

Yesterday I bought a Job Box at a garage sale, and he delivered it today. I was way in the back, and they would have had to move half the inventory to get it out. I think that is why he offered to deliver it, and I'm only three miles away.

The outside dimensions are 48" wide, 30" deep, and 32-1/2" tall. The inside dimensions are 47-1/2 wide, 29-1/2" deep, and 29" high. I'll keep buckets of oil, grease tubes, and other supplies in it and keep in near where I am working on our Tree Farm. It will save many trips back to the shop. For $40.00 delivered, I got a good deal!Job Box 1.jpg

Casually browsing the FB Marketplace yesterday AM before going out. I stumbled across a 'toolbox' listed for $30. I did a double take and zoomed in on the box.
Needless to say, the days plans changed and I immediately went to snap it up.
LISTA 5 drawer mobile cabinet. I didn't even try to talk him down on the price!
Had a few tools and a ton of fasteners in there still. I'm going to put it back to work.

Here is the haul from the last few sales of the weekend...

I went back for the 5th (!) time to a local estate sale, this guy was buying tools and old electronics by the pallet load, the whole house and RV shop behind the house was stuffed to the gills with tools. This was the third weekend they had it open, I think they're finally done as they pretty much sold the higher margin stuff. There will still be truckloads worth of stuff for an auction company to deal with.

I spent about an hour picking through some of the new boxes of stuff they had put out and came away with this...I thought the Spintite drivers were cool, and the adjustable wrench from Heller Brothers has a cool stamp. There's also a Plomb breaker and socket, Snap on T, extension, and flare wrench along with some cool Craftsman DOE's unfortunately I couldn't find the #1 despite a lot of digging. Bought the Williams wrench on a whim as I remember someone on another thread was looking for one, but it's not the right wrench unfortunately.

IMG_3138.jpg

Took all that up to the cashier and she called the tool guy over...$5, I was sitting there thinking I got away cheap then I looked down. I have a feeling this will be a decision I regret but I bought these two gigantic 3/4" Superratchets for another $10. They are completely frozen and I have no idea what that stuff on them is. Time will tell I guess...

IMG_3137.jpg

Finally, I headed to a sale that showed a bunch of tools I expected to be gone. I was pleasantly surprised when I showed up and a lot of it was still there. This guy was clearing out his Dad's house who used to be a machinist. There was a lot of Starrett and Mitutoyu but I didn't buy any of it as he wanted eBay prices for most of it. But for some reason he didn't want eBay prices for the socket sets. Came away with all of this for $35...I tried to go back the next day and unfortunately the sale was shut down. I wish I had a way to contact him as there was tons of very high quality machinist stuff that I'm sure no one bought.

IMG_3139.jpg

The socket rail is earlier S-K metric, most of the sets aren't missing too many pieces. I was pretty happy with the deal, here is a pic of what's in the boxes (I added the spinner handle from another sale to the Proto box). Should be pretty self explanatory, let me know if there are any questions.

Man Saukit, love the sets. Lot of good scores from you all.

I'm a little slow on posting my scrounging efforts this past weekend. Had to do a major cleanup on some of them. Here we go.

1st pic: wrench rails, Mag light (still working), mini hack saw, some brass stuff, Irwin pliers ($1), Craftsman socket, ratcheting phillips, reamer, Snap on ratchet ($5), wire brushes, some kind of file (sharp as heck) and an unknown something.

2nd pic: US made body filler thingys, random screwdriver, random pliers, pick, not sure what the white thing is, Xcelite and Craftsman screwdrivers. All the Craftsman screwdrivers had a thick white coating of whatever on them and had to be scrubbed. Also, everything that was plastic from this entire haul had/has a nasty odor, only described as a mixture of wet dog, mildew, and stale cigarette smoke. It was/is disgusting and everything has been soaking in Simple Green, with a minimal effectiveness. Anything with plastic has been relegated to a shed tool or a recycle bin.

3rd pic: Old can of solder paste, more wrench rails (these are my test set for chemicals to deodorize, so far getting better), Craftsman bars, and a full set of Sears Craftsman ratcheting wrenches with case (case also stinks).

I paid a total of $13.25 for all of it, over 3 different yard sales. I also picked up a dozen Lesney Matchbox cars for another $2 that are not pictured.

In the 4th/5th picture I show 2 ratchets. The Snap on ratchet I got in this haul (for $5) and the PowerKraft ratchet I got a few weeks ago in a $2 haul. Both ratchets were locked up completely. I managed to disassemble them, soak them in various stages of Evaporust, Marvel Mystery oil, brake clean, and 3 in 1 oil, wire brush, scrape, scratch, scrub, wire wheel, and lube, and now both ratchets are fully functional again. (you guys are seeing the "after" pics)

I spray clear laquer over old plastic handles. The stink can't get through it. That white thingy looks like a screw holding screwdriver. Grab the knurl and twist as if unscrewing, stick it in a screw slot and twist the other way.

Some seriously sucktastic finds, especially the $30 Lista cabinet!!!

There were 6 chains for sale, and I got them to take an offer for all the tools and the chains. That is a 3 foot ruler at the top of the photo.
Chains.jpg

Great score, you got more than your money's worth just from the chain hooks! BTW, what's a 3 foot ruler? Is that the same as a yard stick???

1st pic: ...some kind of file (sharp as heck) and an unknown something.

You have a Flexible File meant to be employed with a Flexible File Holder. Mine is a Nicholson No. 25. Most commonly used for auto body work, but I've used mine as a rasp on wood.

FlexFileHolder1.jpg FlexFileHolder3.jpg FlexFileHolder2.jpg

My guess on your unknown something is parts for a dial indicator stand like the one pictured below.

I figured something like that, thanks

Wow, this file is a beast. Can't imagine bending it. Looks right though. Thanks.

The parts aren't for a dial indicator, they are for a surface gauge.

That was the phrase that was eluding me this morning.

I knew mine would get him to the right part of the Starrett catalog. I have put my dial indicator on the surface gage arm before, and need to do it again soon for another project.

Judging by the "U" serial number, and no "PAT PEND" marking on the T handle, it appears to be late mid 1940's, probably 1944 or 1945. Can't see the patents on the decal, but a single patent number 1,688,195 (1928) on a brass decal would be prewar. The second patent (2,347,548) was what the "PAT PEND" marking on the 1942-1944 wartime FEs referred to. If that patent is on the decal it's late war or postwar as I alluded to. Nobody has a detailed correlation, but in general, the higher the letter prefix in the S/N, the later the production. So a "U" was later than a "T" (which was later than an "S"), etc, and "S" and "T" are found on the "PAT PEND" 1942-1944 wartime models. Pyrene resumed brass decals c. late 1944 after two years of paper decals.

Define "Mini". Hard to know the size/capacity without knowing the size of the sledge next to it. If it's 1 Qt, it was a vehicle size, and popular with WWII MV guys.

Thanks Lugnutz !

The extinguisher is a one quart "hand fire extinguisher" size and measures 14.5 " (includes handle) x 3" , appears to be full, and weighs 5.75 lbs. Label states : "Original contents not less than 25% carbontetrachloride".

The serial number is U599353, the classification is B2 : C2. The patents listed are :
1,688,195 & 2,347,548 and the label states "Pyrene Manufacturing Company" in Gothic script and then in regular typeface : Newark, New Jersey and then in smaller print : Atlanta, Kansas City, San Francisco, and Chicago.

It's from very late 1944 or 1945, as I suspected/explained above. These 1 qt FEs are correct for many WWII vehicles. Willys issued General Detroit Fire-Guard and Fyr-Fyter FEs to factory jeeps, but the Ordnance Dept bought spares for motor pool jeeps from several suppliers, including Pyrene. I pick them up at fleas and sell them at military vehicle swap meets. You'll have to empty it and dispose of the CTC properly to ship. Be careful, it's toxic. Here are a few I have on hand right now. No Pyrene.

Got to some sales the last few days, will post more pics in the brand threads once I get some of this stuff cleaned up.

First off is an estate sale that I showed up early for and was 2nd in line. I'm starting to learn that this might not be the way I like to pick, I get amped up about getting in there first and then pay 1st day prices on stuff that I normally would be a little more particular on. Anyhow, here is the first sale. Some nice stuff but I paid too much for the overall package. And I need another ratchet like I need a hole in the head. I also bought a rusty but complete VlChek DOE wrench set and a brand new SK Metric 3/8 deep set. Of interest in the pic may be the Snap on pliers and ratchet wrench (need to date this one). I also liked the Indestro wrench and the T handle is old Craftsman but somewhat sparsely marked.

IMG_3118.jpg

After I left the estate sale I was I little off, I liked a few of the pieces but wasn't feeling good about the price I paid not to mention my inability to be selective. Headed to a sale that was marketed as "estate" but was only on CL. When I got there the garage was just open with no one around. I eventually figured out that the folks running the sale were in the kitchen of the house and the whole place was up for grabs. I found some stuff I liked and took it into the kitchen. They wanted $1 each and after I counted out 15 pieces they gave it to me for $10. Why did I buy more Proto 9/16 Combos? I dunno, now I have 4.

I liked the Herbrand ratchet and breaker in particular here, along with the measuring tools which are nicely made. The bigger rusty combo is P&C and feels very much like a Plomb. Anyone know what the little tools in the pouch are?

IMG_3122.jpg

I felt pretty good about the deal on that last set and once I figured out that the whole place was up for grabs I went back out and dug around a bit more. Came out with this for $5, probably could have gotten it cheaper but this was a nostalgia purchase as I remember my Dad and others carrying these knives when I was a kid

Schrade Uncle Henry USA. All the green stuff came right off, seemed like wax or something. Just forgot to take an after pic.

IMG_3113.jpg

Finally a few long C craftsman sockets and extension for 3 bucks.

IMG_3112.jpg
Those are small hole bore guages put them in hole then mic the size
