Valco Cincinnati 2in Wide Tube Grip Dispensing Plier
Wells Index milling machines are great. And, yes, they are still in business and have any part you may need!Found this knee mill on FaceBook MarketPlace earlier in the week. So a friend and I went he ended up buying it for $1k. Luckily the shop had a overhead crane to load it on the trailer and was kind enough to weight it for us - 1956 lbs. So luckily the aluminum gantry, gantry trolley, and chain fall were rated for 1 ton and we are sure there is a generous safety factor in there… But it was successfully unloaded in his shop and we got the stuck B&S tool holder out of the cartridge by freezing it, a pickle fork, and a few raps on the draw bar. Now to start cleaning it up and order some replacement parts (yes they still make and sell this model and even provided the order paperwork from 1966!)
Yea, my friend called Well’s and they provided the birth certificate of it, when it was ordered, who ordered it, when it was delivered and such. It’s already got the X & Y removed and parts are getting stripped today. VFD should be delivered on Monday or Tuesday so we can get it running in single phase (we were able to see it run on three phase when we looked at it).Wells Index milling machines are great. They also offer a spindle taper regrinding service to convert the B&S taper to the standard R8 taper so you can use the ubiquitous R8 tooling. Call them.
Please post a couple of close-up photos of it. I think it may be the same one I have.
Me three! Granted, this pic is from when she was new. She has a few battle scars now LOLCouldn't agree more about the 3.0 HO. That's all I run on impacts anymore!

Well, we wouldn't ask you to divulge names but there are no other secrets among friends and you're among friends. When was it bought originally?Yea, my friend called Well’s and they provided the birth certificate of it, when it was ordered, who ordered it, when it was delivered and such. Best thing since sliced breadCare to share your opinion on it? Thanks.

It was ordered in 1966 by Schultz & Anderson Machinery Co in Newark, NJ and delivered in 1968. William Schultz, the founder, died in 1967 and his son took over the company.Well, we wouldn't ask you to divulge names but there are no other secrets among friends and you're among friends. The seller had a B&S #9 tool holder stuck in the sprindle/cartridge and claimed it wouldn’t come out. So we froze it, vibrated it using a hammer from the side and on a partially threaded drawbar and it fell out. So I promptly sent the the seller a message and he couldn’t believe it. You can actually send the spindle to Wells Index and they will grind it to R8 for $300. I am glad you passed on the machine because this thing is great! Already have it torn apart and have a list of things to do to get it ready for hobby use.I looked at this one while it was for sale but am not well versed in milling machines, and wasn't certain about swapping to R8. Very cool to see it here.
I have the same one (mine has an "E" at the end of the model)

Two weeks ago, Wells Index quoted me $690.00 to grind a B&S 9 to R8. Plus shipping the whole head. That’s odd.Two weeks ago, Wells Index quoted me $690.00 to grind a B&S 9 to R8. Plus shipping the whole head. Both ways.

It's been really useful to have the flex head when doing plugs in my old BMW. I got it used on Craiglist sometime in 2013 (appeared to be new/unused). I'd never checked the calibration on this or the big-brother Griot's Garage x Norbar (330), so I grabbed the Quinn torque box a few weeks ago:
Thankfully, both are still very close.
Wells Index told me they grind the spindle while still in the head. That's why you have to ship them the whole thing. This from the guy that actually does the grinding. The $300 price for Wells to regrind the B&S spindle to R8 was many years ago. Today, you could not get it setup to grind for that little money. $700 sounds much more reasonable. I suggest to call Wells again and ask them the price if you remove the spindle from the head and ship just the spindle. That MIGHT be $300.
When I got my Wells Index Model 760, it had the R8 spindle. But, the grease in the head was like wax. So I completely disassembled the head, cleaned every part with Brakleen and put it back together with NLGI #0 grease. It was alot of work but it was really fun to do. I tell this story to suggest that if you ship the entire head to Wells, then they probably have to disassemble it to get the spindle out which has to double the cost. Give em a call; I may be wrong and they need the whole head to do the grinding without removing the spindle. Let's get some current information from Wells.

Nice looking wrench set. Although, I find it odd that the set doesn't have a 12 mm but, it gives you a 20 mm. Is 20 mm popular in Europe?
I have the hex set for my rc cars and it has been very good for the past 2 years. I had tried a few cheaper kinds that didn't fit as good and would cam out the screws so I got my guy to get me a set.@tripplejl I’ve been debating whether to spring for that 7 piece set… Please let us know how you like them.
Soon as I put some mileage on them I will report back.@tripplejl I’ve been debating whether to spring for that 7 piece set… Please let us know how you like them.

I haven't done a GM external fuel filter in years. there used to an ac line connection on GM trucks that was also 20 mm but again, I think they've become extinct in my world. I was just surprised that the long zero offset boxed end wrench set posted above included a 20 mm but, not a 12 mm.I’ve used 20mm on Ford before and GM fuel filters require a 20mm open end wrench. In Ford I’ve used it on suspension stuff. Could of been aftermarket but I’m not sure.

Yeah I agree that is strange. I use 12mm everyday 20 not so much.I haven't done a GM external fuel filter in years. there used to an ac line connection on GM trucks that was also 20 mm but again, I think they've become extinct in my world. Well(s), there's the answer. Thanks for confirming.Wells Index told me they grind the spindle while still in the head. That's why you have to ship them the whole thing. This from the guy that actually does the grinding.
