Bought this kit last weekend. I have another one back in Indiana, so now I have 2.
I got it cheap because it was missing a few pieces. Some eBay purchases, and I’m close to completing it. Gonna hit up a few pawn shops eventually to find the last few missing pieces (17mm&19mm). The rest, I have back home.

The kit didn’t come with the 1/2” drive originally when new, but I got put one in there just because.

It’s earned its keep already working on my Cummins truck yesterday, and today taking it to the junkyard.
So while it’s not “NEW” it’s new to me! Lol

Found this knee mill on FaceBook MarketPlace earlier in the week. So a friend and I went he ended up buying it for $1k. Luckily the shop had a overhead crane to load it on the trailer and was kind enough to weight it for us - 1956 lbs. So luckily the aluminum gantry, gantry trolley, and chain fall were rated for 1 ton and we are sure there is a generous safety factor in there… But it was successfully unloaded in his shop and we got the stuck B&S tool holder out of the cartridge by freezing it, a pickle fork, and a few raps on the draw bar. Now to start cleaning it up and order some replacement parts (yes they still make and sell this model and even provided the order paperwork from 1966!)
Wells Index milling machines are great. And, yes, they are still in business and have any part you may need!

They also offer a spindle taper regrinding service to convert the B&S taper to the standard R8 taper so you can use the ubiquitous R8 tooling. Call them.

Please post a couple of close-up photos of it. I think it may be the same one I have.

Yea, my friend called Well’s and they provided the birth certificate of it, when it was ordered, who ordered it, when it was delivered and such. It’s already got the X & Y removed and parts are getting stripped today. VFD should be delivered on Monday or Tuesday so we can get it running in single phase (we were able to see it run on three phase when we looked at it).

Ebay find. Snap on QD2FR75 5-75ft-lb 3/8 flex head. Used but in great shape.

Looks like around 2013 vintage if the case is correct. Last calibrated in 2017. Might get this and my other snap on wrench checked at some point, but it should be fine for my home gamer needs.

That's a fantastic deal on the Mid! You're gonna enjoy it. My favorite way to run it is with a 3.0 HO battery. Packs a whallop and nearly as small as my Stubby!
PvBFTS.jpg

Couldn't agree more about the 3.0 HO. That's all I run on impacts anymore!
Me three! Granted, this pic is from when she was new. She has a few battle scars now LOL

Well, we wouldn't ask you to divulge names but there are no other secrets among friends and you're among friends. When was it bought originally?

I looked at this one while it was for sale but am not well versed in milling machines, and wasn't certain about swapping to R8. Very cool to see it here.

Care to share your opinion on it? Thanks.
Best thing since sliced bread  They've been around for years, used to be the GM sealant tube tool until they went to the disposable clothes pin looking thing that comes with each tube, and the mini caulking gun set up. The Valco tube grip will apply a nice even bead with hand pressure and get almost every drop of goo out of RTV/sealant tubes. It's really an understated/rated simple tool that makes applying sealant easy. Just make the jaws are lined up evenly on the tube.

So I have been looking for a 20V grinder to round out my newer selection of Dewalt tools. I figured once I got the grinder, I could sell the rest of my 18V stuff. This grinder was clearanced at Lowe's but a few in stock. I searched few stores on line but no avail, called a few and said nope. So I thought if I could find one at $148 (down from $199) I'd buy a 3/8" drive impact wrench. I made a run to Rural King to check stock, no grinder but they had both smaller impact wrenches in 3/8 & 1/2"

I go to Lowes and find the grinder I wanted, Sweet ! I grab the impact wrench too.

I just wished I could have found the 3/8" & 1/2" drive impact wrench set that got clearanced out as well but I was too late to find that deal.

After much debate, I told the wife after we went out to eat with my parents that we were running down to Lowes and I was going to buy the 1/2" drive impact too. So we made the trip. I was comparing the torque ratings of the impact wrenches. The bare tool was the smaller rating but it'd be fine for me. . . or so I thought.

I grabbed the one I wanted, walk to the hardware aisle and look at the overhead stock/overrun. Nothing I was looking for. Stroll back over to the tool section, glance at the combo tool kits. No way. . . Is that what I think it is ? Yes. Score. I found the last 2 pc impact wrench set. The one I was hoping to find, priced at $249.

Keep in mind, I was going to pay $148 each for both bare tools. This was $50 cheaper, came with a bag (don't really care) a charger and a 5ah battery. By the end of the day, I made three trips to Lowe's, the last was to return the 3/8" Impact bare tool that I hadn't opened yet.

Rounding out another Dewalt purchase a few days later. I picked up a flexible head work light and a USB charger. KIMG1308.JPG
A stop by Menard's for a 1/4" T-handle spinner for the tool box in the enclosed trailer. Mainly to remove the bolts for the valve covers. Plus a tube of Ultra Copper and Gray for the trailer as well.

It was ordered in 1966 by Schultz & Anderson Machinery Co in Newark, NJ and delivered in 1968. William Schultz, the founder, died in 1967 and his son took over the company.

The seller had a B&S #9 tool holder stuck in the sprindle/cartridge and claimed it wouldn’t come out. So we froze it, vibrated it using a hammer from the side and on a partially threaded drawbar and it fell out. So I promptly sent the the seller a message and he couldn’t believe it. You can actually send the spindle to Wells Index and they will grind it to R8 for $300. I am glad you passed on the machine because this thing is great! Already have it torn apart and have a list of things to do to get it ready for hobby use.

I have the same one (mine has an "E" at the end of the model)

It's been really useful to have the flex head when doing plugs in my old BMW. I got it used on Craiglist sometime in 2013 (appeared to be new/unused). I'd never checked the calibration on this or the big-brother Griot's Garage x Norbar (330), so I grabbed the Quinn torque box a few weeks ago:

Thankfully, both are still very close.

Two weeks ago, Wells Index quoted me $690.00 to grind a B&S 9 to R8. Plus shipping the whole head. Both ways.

Odd, I wonder what the difference between the "E" and non "E" version is, ours both look identical. Also weirdly enough the latest version is QD2FR75B. So it doesn't even seem like its a revision, or an uplevel to the part number.

Either way I'm excited to put it to use!

Grabbed the Quinn digital torque wrench on the Labor Day sale:
7E7dw0.jpg

Will be handy for some upcoming projects that are asking for torque angles. Normally I'd wait until the project to get it, but I doubt any other sale/coupon is going to get it under $120.

Have to say I like the case:

The $300 price for Wells to regrind the B&S spindle to R8 was many years ago. Today, you could not get it setup to grind for that little money. $700 sounds much more reasonable. I suggest to call Wells again and ask them the price if you remove the spindle from the head and ship just the spindle. That MIGHT be $300.

When I got my Wells Index Model 760, it had the R8 spindle. But, the grease in the head was like wax. So I completely disassembled the head, cleaned every part with Brakleen and put it back together with NLGI #0 grease. It was alot of work but it was really fun to do. I tell this story to suggest that if you ship the entire head to Wells, then they probably have to disassemble it to get the spindle out which has to double the cost. Give em a call; I may be wrong and they need the whole head to do the grinding without removing the spindle. Let's get some current information from Wells.

Wells Index told me they grind the spindle while still in the head. That's why you have to ship them the whole thing. This from the guy that actually does the grinding.

Sold all the individual chargers I had laying around and bought two rapid chargers, Milwaukee 48-59-1807 and DeWalt DCB104. The Milwaukee will rapid charge any three batteries simultaneously, and the DeWalt will fast charge everything from my 12V all the way to my FlexVolt stuff at the same time. Bonus is that my chargers only take up a single gang outlet now…

Nice looking wrench set. Although, I find it odd that the set doesn't have a 12 mm but, it gives you a 20 mm. Is 20 mm popular in Europe?

I worked on a jeep cherokee recently with a 20mm cam-bolt for either rear toe or camber... 2018 or so?

Every day we stray further from gods light. It's like when you find a 13mm on a nissan.

I’ve used 20mm on Ford before and GM fuel filters require a 20mm open end wrench. In Ford I’ve used it on suspension stuff. Could of been aftermarket but I’m not sure.

I haven't done a GM external fuel filter in years. there used to an ac line connection on GM trucks that was also 20 mm but again, I think they've become extinct in my world. I was just surprised that the long zero offset boxed end wrench set posted above included a 20 mm but, not a 12 mm. :dunno:

Yeah I agree that is strange. I use 12mm everyday 20 not so much.
