Tried to fire up my back up generator. It's a 1943 WW II military unit powered by a jeep engine. It wouldn't turn over. Its been 9 months since it ran last. I need to run it more often. Anyway, the starter solenoid wouldn't pull in. Had 6 volts from the start switch OK, was missing the ground side. Spent a couple hours troubleshooting ( very old and poor schematic) to find out the ground comes from the armature in the engine generator. I guess they did it that way so the starter won't engage when the engine is running. Turned the generator by hand a little and away it went. It's a neat generator, only turns at 1200RPM. I let it run for 30 minutes. Tomorrow will be the load test. The last picture with the ice tea is with it running.

Cut, fit and soldered a couple more drops on the copper air piping. Unboxed the new Lasko Super Fan blower I picked up at Costco on Saturday and tried it out. Looked around for my lost mower key again, still no luck.

TSC, HD, Blowes, most lawn equipment dealers, have generic mower ignition keys. Bite the bullet, they're like $5.

Further to my fixing one shelf in my book case a couple of weeks back:

Today I noticed the next shelf down had almost fallen off the clips. Cause: Too many books had made the sides bow out a bit (3/8in)
Removed ALL the books & shelves, unscrewed book case from wall & took it to the garage.
Used a woodwork clamp to squeeze the sides back together. Got the miter saw out, cut 2 pieces of 1/2in by 4in ply to length & screwed them to the back of the book case about level with the bottom & middle shelves (that's when I found out my Dewalt impact is a POS). Case is 10in deep, 3ft wide & 50in tall.
Screwed bookcase to wall again & put *most* of the books back on it.
Should be good for another 30 years :)

Straightened out lid on car hauler tool box and replaced badly rusted hardware. Fixed leak in pool autofill flexible PVC hose.

Replace the rubber bit on the bottom of the road draft tube on my bug and found a leaking pushrod tube. Seals still look OK and i think it looks like its coming from the concertina bit that compresses as the head is tightened down. I don't have the enthusiasm to drop the engine just to replace a pushrod tube so its either use a spring loaded one or just slather it in exhaust paste or something and see how it goes.

Here in Canada 🇨🇦 we threw the rubber drain away even when doing a PDI on a new car, as in the winter and below freezing point the condensation would freeze solid and cause extreme pressure in crankcase and blow oil past seals.

Luckily in the UK we rarely get bad winters anymore. I think i've only seen snow about 3 times in the past decade. :(

I left the UK in the mid 80's and we used to get snow, north of London pretty much every year

I've redoubled my efforts of gathering all of my 'odds and ends' mechanic tools. These are mostly no brand or odd brand combination wrenches and sockets that I've ended up with over the yrs. The count is probably near 50 Pcs, with more searching and digging needed. I plan on donating these to our local '2nd Chance Thrift' that contributes a decent amount of their proceeds to local Military Veterans.

I added casters to my 20ton press so that I can move it around the shop easier. I had a broken HF moving dolly (not the one in the picture, but another where the wood frame broke), and I repurposed the casters from that with some u-bolts to attach it to the press's frame. The casters are the right height, where I'll be able to slip a couple of 4x4's underneath the frame to immobilize it when I need to use it. The u-bolts from the local True Value were not quite wide enough, so I put each one in my vice to "flatten" the U and open them up a bit to fit over the channel of the press frame and match the width of the mounting holes of the caster wheels.

Winterized the riding mower as well as the push mower, the irrigation pump and the snowblower/sickle bar mower. Ended up more repairs than winterizing.
Sharpened all blades, ran all till out of gas, Put battery’s on winter charge station.
Funny, the Ryobi 40 volt weed walker only needed to ensure the battery was at 50%.
Need to Pick up 4 air filters to finish.
Funny, the Ryobi doesn’t need a filter!
Am I seeing a trend here?

Got the '60 Corvette back from the shop - bad fuel sender and headlight switch. Hopefully, last of the rebuild warranty issues. Took the '69 Corvette out for a little exercise since it doesn't get driven a lot in the summer (no a/c). Swapped out for the see through top on the '19 ZR1. Cleaned up a few dirty spots on everything. Got everything parked and covered - supposed to rain for the next 3-4 days here.

do your self a favor . solid plate it and angle iron front and back lip up . makes it a lot more riged and HUGE storage shelf for all the stuff you use for pressing stuff . its what i did on my older orange unit .

also ditch them DEATH plates / press plates . they explode under pressure BAD as there cast . get some SWAG offroad plates there solid cut steel .

I know, I just have not had time to get to the box store to get one. I'll get one this weekend for sure. I was actually able to start it using the key from an old Murray that I scrapped last year, but it was a little hard to turn.

39’ FRD Deluxe 2DR Sedan had a 4” drop axle, which is 2“ more than stock. With a Posie’s super slide reverse eye spring which brought it down another 1.5” / 2”. Was too low as top of front white wall was covered by fender & more importantly the pitman was below the Scrub Line. 😱. Today we changed out spring with a new Posie’s non reverse eye .
It came up 1 5/8” after a short 10 mile ride. Hopefully settle down closer to 1” 🤔

The old orange hf presses had the cast plates. these new grey ones in both 12 and 20 ton have solid steel plates.
