Drilled a pair of holes in the frame of the boat trailer for the strap to hold down the stern. In doing so the step drill bit kept skipping in the chuck of my drill, so I figured I better investigate.
The drill is some 10 years old or so, so it's seen some use. Pulled the chuck apart, hit it with some WD40 to free it up some. While looking online at replacements, I determined that shipping makes it unreasonable really to replace the chuck that works "ok" 80-90% of the time, so I gave up and put it back together. I should have used a shorter extension, and I had a 2" extension available, but alas I had a 4" on the ratchet from when I took it apart. Low and behold, as I'm giving it one final snug, I shear off the end of the torx bit in the screw.
I guess this gives me an excuse to buy a new torx set, drill and driver combo, right? Hoping for one of those Black Friday deals where I can put together a package of a few bare tools with some batteries. I'd love to replace my circular saw, grab a second impact and a new drill at minimum. A few extra batteries wouldn't hurt either.
