After many hours, I finally got the ^@#$%$@#$ impeller off the crankshaft of the old engine on my tow-behind leaf vacuum (a ~20yr old Trac Vac 580, I think).


I swear, by the looks of it, they welded the impeller and key to the end of the output shaft. So after grinding the weld off, and then the force of a puller breaking off the only portion of the collar I could get a grip to try and pull it out, it took a combination of heating the collar of the impeller with an oxy-acetylene torch (first time using that!
-. I gave up on the propane torch that is in the picture) and hammering in steel wedges behind the impeller to get it to finally move - bit-by-bit - and eventually come off.
Now to source a replacement engine with the correct size output shaft and keyway (3/4" x 2 3/8").
AND, before the impeller gets reinstalled with a new engine, I'm have some nuts welded to it so that next time I can thread through some 3/8" bolts and push it off the crankshaft (if it ever needs service again).
