After many hours, I finally got the ^@#$%$@#$ impeller off the crankshaft of the old engine on my tow-behind leaf vacuum (a ~20yr old Trac Vac 580, I think).
Trac Vac 580 disassembly.jpg
impeller.jpg
I swear, by the looks of it, they welded the impeller and key to the end of the output shaft. So after grinding the weld off, and then the force of a puller breaking off the only portion of the collar I could get a grip to try and pull it out, it took a combination of heating the collar of the impeller with an oxy-acetylene torch (first time using that! -. I gave up on the propane torch that is in the picture) and hammering in steel wedges behind the impeller to get it to finally move - bit-by-bit - and eventually come off.

Now to source a replacement engine with the correct size output shaft and keyway (3/4" x 2 3/8").

AND, before the impeller gets reinstalled with a new engine, I'm have some nuts welded to it so that next time I can thread through some 3/8" bolts and push it off the crankshaft (if it ever needs service again).

Mostly finished the oil change on my 37. Need to clean up after the filter finishes draining.

Cleaning up and putting stuff away for the changeover to winter. Mower, yardvac, smoker, grill off to the shed. Snow shovels moved to the garage. Still need to move the workbench off to the side and get the 37 in its winter spot.

Spent, no wasted, time shredding 47 million or so junk mailings of the past 6 weeks or so. If they'd only mail such on a TP roll...

Wife and I have become to be very close to our shredder.

Start a red worm composting farm. all the "non glossy" paper can be used for the bedding- which the worms eat.

Finished the Venison Family.
Now it's up to Mrs to decorate them.20211211_161324.jpg
For size reference, Dad is over 3' at the head, and over 5' at the antlers.
So almost life sized! Heck, your daddy deer is bigger that A legal buck I once saw taken. Many dogs are bigger than that one was! Very Poor habitat, where this was, but it may have also been just that area's "breed". some blacktail deer are just runts.

Replaced cord on miter saw…
I don't know what Dewalt makes their cords from but it needs improving, we have a circ saw at work that was 3 weeks old when the strain relief cracked and broke and slid up the cord. Now a year later the actual cord is as bad as yours was. Its only been used inside too not out in the weather and sun.

Finished the install of the Ecobee door sensors on my garage doors. Now the heater will kick off if the doors are open, so I don't have to worry about the heater blazing away if we are farting around outside with the doors open.

Put a new discharge chute and spring for the chute on the zero turn mower. I hit too many things going too fast and torqued the spring a bit and banged up the chute a lot. It was sagging and tended to drag when I made right turns.

Checked all of the fluids in all the cars like I always do when I get bored. Hopefully I will have time to rotate the tires on my dads car. They haven’t been rotated since we bought them because Sam’s cross threaded two lug nuts and would not touch it after I went to put brakes on it and snapped both of them off. We asked them to pay for it but they said they don’t do that and most likely if it did cross thread with anti seize than there was a problem already. I replaced the studs and everything. That was in 2018 luckily they have 6 on the rear 5 up front since it’s front wheel drive we want to rotate them while we still can. Also have to do something to dads Freightliner just can’t remember what lol I really don’t feel like working out in the cold but oh well.

First brake job on our ‘13 Ford Edge. I was very impressed as the original pads and rotors lasted >100k miles, which is by far the longest life I have ever experienced… especially for the front. Then after a test drive and tool clean up, I spent some time sharpening one of my new wood chisels.

After being away for almost 2 years, I’m trying to get my garage back in order.

Threw out my back on Black Friday, so it’s been a sloooow process.

Today, my brother was around, and so my nephews were here. They are little still (10 and 8?).
Anyway, I had some harbor freight LED lights I bought on sale in California. They were in the back seat on my Lincoln, which is still in my enclosed cargo trailer.
Got my smallest nephew to squeeze in there, and pull them out for me hahahaha Otherwise I would have had to unload the car, which I didn’t want to do (would have had to hook the truck up to the trailer, pull it to a “dry spot”, air up a flat tire on the car, drop in a battery, etc etc).

So. All THAT being said, I was finally able to get those LED’s hung in the garage. Got one each hung above the hood areas of vehicles, and one above my tool box. I have one more I’ll find a place for, but I may finally actually be able to see. The one by the man door, I have to remove that light fixture and add a socket/outlet. Maybe once that’s done, I’ll hang the fourth one there for “extra” light, as this is the spot I’ll be working on stuff.

Never mind the mess, I moved in 2 years ago, then left the state for 2 years. Never really got a chance to unpack or organize really. I’m gettin there though!!

I have a sander with the exact same cord problem. I chalked it up to the heat in the summer here (desert SW). I still think it crapped out prematurely…

All I did was walk out there and sweep up hair. I am bald, and the wife just buzzes my head because there's no point in getting my haircut somewhere in a futile attempt to form some kind of hairstyle.

Continued working my way through the brakes on my pick-up truck. Now I'm looking at the fronts.

As you can see, the caliper pistons look the same as the day they left the factory.

What about the pads? I could probably get a couple thousand more miles out of these.

Repaired a leaking valve cover gasket on a 2011 VW Touareg TDI on Saturday for a client. Many more pictures of the process can be seen on my Projects 2.0 thread. Pretty straight forward job.

window pain.jpg

Ever have one of those days where things just turn out like ****? Yesterday was that day for me. One of the tasks I planned to do was to replace a broken window pane in my shop. I had a piece of scrap glass I intended to cut-to-size, and use. Started cutting it to size and the last cut slivered off about a quarter inch of the corner (photo above--the corner s/b square). Damnit! I guess I can still use the pane since the trim will mostly cover this little ****-up.

Then, taking off the trim to remove the old piece I broke the trim in two places. (also pictured) Double damnit! So I went to put the pane in and remembered I'd left my window glaze downtown where I'd last been working. Oh well, I guess this task can wait until tomorrow.

The final nail in the coffin was when I went to put some stuff away since I wouldn't be replacing the glass yesterday. I knocked the little cup holding my brads from the trim (which is now broken). When it hit the floor those little nails scattered to parts unknown in my shop. I only found two.

I finally gave up in frustration, went inside, and took a 90 minute nap. The only good part of my day yesterday. *sigh*

Finished the shower door installation on my bathroom remodel, so now I can get back to working on cars in the shop.

I also fixed my $20 HF angle grinder that had quit. Found one of the tiny screws that attached the power wires to the switch had vibrated loose and fallen out.....it looked like it had been loose for a while as the end of the wire was burned black. Stripped the end fresh and put it all together - works like it did the day I brought it home!

Next up, the 20 year old Toro leaf blower has quit - I'm thinking it will need a set of brushes. Fortunately, I've got almost all the leaf blowing done for the year, but we're supposed to get one more warm day this year before winter sets in and I want to get the shop blown out while it's warm enough to have the garage doors open.
