Quality headband head lamp that is bright

I guess these things have improved a lot since the days of 4 AA cells and a screw base lightbulb (Panasonic)
heavy,not very bright and makes your head hurt if you use it very long but that was supposed to have been the best one as of about 1985
comes in handy for some things however if it's all you've got

The USB rechargeable light has to be one of the dumbest ideas I've seen come around in years. Why not just buy a light and spare battery so you're not waiting around in the dark for five hours waiting for the battery to charge.

As any good Garage Journal member knows, you can't own just one. I have 3. One rechargeable and a couple of AA models. The rechargeable lasts long enough for any task I've done. If you use it for work all day long, you'll want a spare one anyhow.

For hiking, etc, best one’s I have are Lupine Piko, and for my bike I have a Lupine Wilma.

the combo is great for checking out where you’re turning and not just in front of you.

I like my old Pelican light, can be had for $15 if you look, Uses AA batteries, plenty of light for when I'm on the jobsite early or in the structure before it's lit up.

But our Safety guy and Insurance has forced us to move away from traditional hard hats and now we use those lovely spelunker short bus looking hats. only upside is I have a Kline branded one that has a molded mount for their light. It's rechargeable or available in a AA variant. It has spot/flood/combo settings and I believe one model even shuts off in bright light if you forget. Strong magnetic back as well to mount on metal if needed. You can get one at HD with the headband for under $40.

I used a Koehler lamp for a while underground and all these are such a step up from those bricks in terms of comfort.

I think I am going to go with this model but version 2. Uses 16340 battery but should help it be more light weight of a unit.

I have this 600 lumens one from Milwaukee, I really like it. It's nice and bright, It's not cheap i think I paid around $50 for it.
It doesn't really have good reviews on the Milwaukee site but I think most of the bad reviews refer to the way it fits on your hard hat. I'm not using it on a hard hat so that doesn't matter.

I've got several headlamps which use 3 AAA batteries (disposable or rechargeable). If the batteries fail in the dark you always need a second light to change the batteries. Mine also require a mind-meld with your origami teacher to open and close the lamp with the new batteries.

If you're using the light in the dark, practice changing the batteries in the dark. (or with your eyes closed, if you won't cheat....) \

I cannot stand lights with built in batteries. They do not last long enough, they take too long to charge. Something with replaceable batteries is much nicer. I use rechargeable NiMH cells in mine, but being able to use throwaways has come in handy from time to time.

I use a really bright, four-AA battery, Black Diamond Icon headlamp. It comes at a price though-- the battery pack on the back of the head. Not great on a creeper. Worth the weight for outdoor stuff.

well i use the HM50R only in automotive and no issues for a couple years. IIRC it has 4 light levels and i use it on #3 i think, and the battery will last a good couple hours at that setting it seems. Recharge is less than 2 hrs with that smaller battery that comes with it. The weight is totally OK, and the strap operation is OK too. I'd probably buy another.

occasionally i'd like a longer run time but not a big deal, i just use a stationary light.
