A friend gave me a spider box for power distribution
I would like to buy an outdoor rated 50 amp extension cord with the correct locking connector
What type of connector and what gauge wire should I be looking for?

thats an old spider box. the 50a receptacle is an old style NEMA 10-50 3 prong non grounded 125/250v. you should replace it with a 14-50 4 prong receptacle but the physical size wont be the same.

Yup. It's pretty old Wylie
Are you saying I'm going to have to modify the metal box?

Actually I think it is grounded
Looks like this type of connector is needed and it says it's 4-wire
I believe ground is on the side- see green arrow

I would take the box to a good Wholesale house and buy the appropriate connectors and #6 AWG cable. You could get by with #8, but 6 gives you a greater margin of safety.

That's the one. Those are pretty common on those spider boxes.
