I just went to the local Sears to replace a 1/2X9/16 open end wrench. Not only do they NOT KEEP THIS WRENCH SIZE IN STOCK, the folks there acted like I was
shooting their puppy to get it taken care of. They directed me to call the Craftsman Club. Yeah. That worked really well. I'm done with Sears. I'll go buy the damned wrench from Snap-On. At least the Snap-on guy will stand behind his product.

FYI, they had open end wrenches on the peg board - they just didn't have any that were smaller than 11/16X13/16. I mean, seriously? They sure did have a ****-ton of those god-awful GearWretches. When they're out of business, they have only themselves to blame. This is the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

Honestly, I understand the frustration, but I don't know a single tool supplier here that stocks any notable quantity of double open end wrenches. Hell, even the tool trucks don't.

They didn't offer to order it - the store employees told me I had to call Sears Customer Service to get it taken care of (which I have now learned is ********).

The 1/2 end is a little tweaked: consequences of a 20+ year life. I just finally got around to taking it in for replacement.

I can understand not stocking much, but how about stocking the sizes that most people would be likely to use?

That's interesting. Exact opposite here. Although, it's like comparing which one is worse, not which one is best. At the one Sears store, I asked each employee one day for the heck of it who works with tools. No one. One was an art teacher at the local college, another was a recent stay-at-home mom who just started working outside of the home and the manager was a recent college grad. None knew anything about the tools. And they all worked full-time in the tool department. Any company that will allow that will allow a WHOLE lot of compromise.

I'm pretty much a novice and I started going in there looking for advice. It's bad when someone like me knew more about tools than they did.

Oh well, glad my Sears days are behind me :)

Another one of these? Go buy Snap On. I'm sure you will be happy and I'm positive Sears won't care.

Did not not even offer to order it for you?

That's what sounds really strange to me... last time I went to Sears for a replacement, and they didn't have the item on hand, they shipped directly to my house at no cost, and no hassle.

The only "effort" I had to put in was giving them my ship to address.

The last time I went in and they didn't have a rebuild on hand, they gave me a brand new item right off the shelf.

Oh well, glad my Sears days are behind me :)

Plus, with your new ultra-thin wallet, you won't have to worry about back problems from sitting on it... it's a win-win. :D

you should be able to go in to any Sears and get good help. If they work in a particular department then they should be trained and well education on the products that they are trying to sell. I hate sears. I asked them where the 02 sensor sockets were located and the girl said "i dont think we carry those".. then she asks the manager and she says "try Wal-Mart across the street".. WTF.. so i walk around and find it (they kept it in the automotive specialty tool section), I walked back up and showed her what it was i was looking for and placed it on the counter and left. I know it isnt the employees' fault.. these companies hire anyone and everyone... managers who have no business education background get hired on. how are they suppose to train their employees and push sales and increase profit if they are clueless at what they are doing?!?

Heck, Sears won't care even if you buy from Sears! I challenge someone to find a more apathetic corporate culture than them. They make the DMV seem pleasant, customer-oriented and fanatical about quality.

You must have a really bad Sears... mine's been nothing but butterflies and unicorns every time I've gone in for an exchange.

Honestly, most hobbyists wouldn't know what an o2 sensor socket is either... that may be asking a bit much for Sears to employ knowledgable mechanics.

If they knew that much, why wouldn't they be turning wrenches instead of getting paid nothing to work at sears?

It kind of falls into the same category as expecting them to stock double open end wrenches.

Just because YOU haven't had a problem with Sears does not invalidate my complaint. Until now I haven't really had any issues with them either. In fact, I've been quick to defend them. Spend an hour on the phone getting the runaround from various "customer service representatives", and I use that term very loosely, and see how much goodwill you have.

and the one time they did not have the item in stock it was mailed to my house
No warranty problems here with either Snap on or Sears

I didn't say your complaint was invalid.

I said that IMO that kind of service from sears is atypical, and also, a double open end wrench isn't a common stock item anywhere, let alone sears.

Same goes for an O2 sensor socket.

edit: generally, from what I've heard in person and online, sears will ship a replacement at no charge if they do not have the item in stock. It's very strange they were making you jump through hoops, and I agree that it's unacceptable.

As far as them not stocking the item, I don't find that incredibly strange.

This gets my vote for dumbest thing I've heard this month. Good work.

Every place I go has their problems. When did everyone start thinking some one should kiss their *** when you walk into a store? They have bad days at Sears the same as anywhere else.

My roofer was not the most pleasant person to be around, but guess what, he got the job done to my expectations. I don't go to Sears for the friendly faces, I go to buy Craftsman tools. You had one issue with them and came on here and cried about it. Call a manager and keep calling until you are satisfied with the outcome. It's either that or go somewhere else with your money. Those are your choices here.

Not to mention which, if his sears really is that bad, maybe it's a good idea just to stay away.

I know I would if my sears treated me like that, luckily they don't.

Same here as far as sears... I can't say with the Snap-on guy, I've never successfully been able to warranty anything with him, because I've never been able to get him to show up.

I broke an 18" Craftsman cross lug wrench. When they wanted to replace it with a 12" I said 'no'. They told me to buy one from another supplier and bring them the receipt. When I brought in the receipt they gave me the cash. Never had a problem with Sears. I just won't buy any of their appliances, but thats another story.
I couldn't believe that I left that wrench in the back of a Suburban I sold!

I was pleasant in the store. The guys up there gave me bad information and the completely incompetent people in their telephone based customer service lines gave me the runaround.

I certainly didn't cry, son.

By the way, once I talked to the manager of the store, it literally took all of 2 minutes to get it handled. He wasn't happy to hear that his employees were passing the buck and acknowledged that their 1-800 folks were essentially idiots. (My store is like 3 minutes from the house...)

Haha, yikes. 22 bucks for one stinking wrench? I can almost buy a whole set of CMan wrenches for that! No wonder Sears' customer service doesn't bother me. I like my money!

It's a special wrench though.

It uses magical steel molded by dwarves and infused with dust from a unicorn's horn.

Even though man has known how to make high quality tool steel for well over 100 years now, only snap-on now holds the secret to this craft.

Well, it IS much shinier than the old one. Is it 17 bucks more shiny? Sigh. Maybe I won't give up on Sears after all :(

ditto. :) I don't get the total attitude or the ability to hold onto it long enough to pot about it. Life's too short, man.

are you kidding me??? in these tough economic times, companies folding, employees getting laid off...
these sears employees should be climbing over each other to help a customer.

had the employee taken 30 seconds to find out how to help this guy.
win him over before he leaves the store so he doesn't bad mouth you on the internet .

think about how much money a business loses with "bad" word of mouth from pissed customers...

Son? This is an internet forum buddy. You know nothing about me so let's stick to the conversation. You were complaining (crying) about the way you were treated at your Sears. I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings. That wasn't my intention. There are too many people who expect too much today, and then wonder why we get ****** tools.

I just don't really get why you didn't ask to speak to the manager before you came here and complained about it. I wouldn't have left the store without speaking to a manager. That's what they get paid for.

Nope, not kidding you. I don't know about you guys, but I don't buy my tools or anything else based on what I read on the internet. I sure hope not too many people actually do that. Of course, maybe that's part of the problem. Sears knows they don't need to worry much about customer service because a good amount of their stuff is sold online.

I've heard some ridiculous things complained about before. The customer is not always right in my opinion. Had he asked for a manager in the first place the issue would have been resolved in "all of 2 minutes" I believe and we wouldn't even be hearing about it. Just my opinion. I don't expect a Sears employee making 5 something an hour to kiss my *** every time I walk into the store with a problem.

I didn't expect the employee to kiss my ***. The employee told me that if I called the Customer Care number, they would ship me a new wrench out with a return box for the old one. As I had never had a problem with them before it sounded plausible. The problem arose when I attempted to talk to the people in Customer Care (Craftsman Club). There was no need to think the kid was passing me off until the nice lady on the telephone basically told me that was what he did. I spent an HOUR on the phone getting the runaround. If me getting pissed off about it is "expecting too much", then I guess I'm guilty. You don't know me either, Mr. Internet Smartass. You didn't hurt my feelings. I just generally have issues with some ***** on the Internet telling me I'm "crying" when I'm voicing an issue I had with a company. And FYI, I don't give a damn how low someone is paid. My mom and dad always said to me "Do your job to the best of your abilities no matter what your pay is". So I should expect to have to talk to a manager to make sure someone isn't lying to me? Yeah. You're an idiot.

Why did you buy that F80 in the classifieds then? :wtf:

I had to get a taste of the good life. I'm broke and can't afford good tools, so I wanted to know how "real" tools felt.

No seriously, for $45 shipped for a brand new ratchet that costs $80 and shipping or tracking down the truck, that's a good deal. I never said I didn't spend my money, I just don't waste it.
