Asking for a son, Is the Capri Ratchet 1/4 or 3/8 inch drive any good? He lost his USA Craftsman somewhere between NC, Ga and Texas.

It's for the occasional odd job of putting something together, says the last time he remembers seeing it was 10 years ago.

They are fine. Another consideration would be the Husky ratchets at Home Depot. Low price and they are decent (and a step up from the old Craftsman ratchets).

Yes, good. Here's a test of the Capri and Snap-On 1/4" flex ratchets. Capri performed equal to the best.

Ill throw my Gearwrench 84 tooth 1/4 inch in there too. I replaced my Snap On with the GW and its every bit as good. Might be a little easier to warranty if need be also since GW is in about every store and Capri can be hard to find I think (locally). Just another option anyway.

My son is very analytical and from his research it led him to ask me, I didn't know. He lives in Texas and is the CMFIC where he works only answering to corporate, I'm proud that he even still knew what a ratchet was. Everyone at his job whether it be hourly, admin or the management and supervisors that answer to him all drive trucks, it is Texas. He is the only one that gets a reserved spot and drives a Genesis coupe that sticks out like a sore thumb amongst the trucks.

Thank y'all for the answers.

There's SO MANY good and inexpensive ratchets these days. This thread could quickly spiral out of control. To help you get out while you still can, yes the Capri makes good ones. If you found what you like, I'd stop there.

Husky? Perfectly acceptable. There's even some models I would call "very good". And they're cheap and offer a lifetime exchange warranty. I think this is the modern equivalent of Craftsman, but I might get flamed for that.

Gearwrench and Tekton are the next most likely candidates. Lots of people working with these in shops everyday in shops are perfectly happy. Capri is probably in this company - though I expect some may argue that certain models punch in an even higher weight class.

Williams USA round heads (e.g. B52a) are where it's at if you want something made in the USA like your son's Craftsman of olde, but also want some modern fine-tooth action. Finishing is a bit less refined than most tools from Taiwan these days, but the ratchet mechanism is butter. The pear heads are good too, but I don't see why you'd buy a 36 tooth ratchet these days intentionally.

Proto premium pear head if you want tool-truck like quality without tool-truck level pricing.

Those are just some of the most common and best loved ratchets. There's a ton of European, Japanese and Taiwanese options to explore.

The Capri 1/4” flex head ratchet is an outstanding ratchet for the money. Great quality with a budget price.

If he hasn't used a ratchet in ten years and the last one he used was a Craftsman. the Capri should work great for him.

The new old stock US made Indestro that four.cycle linked to above is a really nice ratchet. I have used a lot of ratchets and that is an awesome ratchet for little money (and it includes shipping).
