I'm going with gearwrench. Does anyone have a better Chinese made combination wrench set? I work in a sketchy neighborhood therefore I am not interested in USA made wrenches. I bought the 44 piece set from Napa. We will see how long it will last. It has the smooth open ends. Thank you for your time.

I have a set of metric and SAE that I bought from AutoZone last year. They are identical copies to the GearWrench. I’ve used them a number times, mostly doing brake work on my cars. They’re really good for the price and the extra length comes in handy. My only other set of wrenches are my USA raised panel Craftsman’s.

I’ve heard GearWrench can be a hassle to deal with when it comes to their warranty process. The Duralast would be easier to warranty if you break one and have an AutoZone close by.

My Napa has decent warranty on the stuff I bought from them so far. Not super concerned about warranty to be honest. I'm probably more likely to lose the wrenches than break them anyway.
Sounds like you can’t go wrong then. I really like my local NAPA store.

Walmart "hyper tough" is what I gave our new operator to keep in the machine & he could break an anvil with a rubber mallet. So far so good & lifetime warranty at Walmart. 15 piece set for $22, 8mm thru 22mm & a 25mm [No 20mm].

Do the wrenches have to be Chinese made?

Seems to me that a lot of the companies offering Chinese tools are selling cheap tools and costly ********, resulting in a tool that isn’t as cheap as it might be.

If you can buy sensibly, maybe get a bit closer to source, you can probably get very serviceable Taiwanese tools for comparable money. The guys suggesting Toptul are probably bang on the money.

I was actually hoping to stick with Chinese wrenches. I know taiwanese is way better. But there's definitely a following of Chinese tools on garage journal. Look at the Milwaukee addiction thread for one if you don't believe me.
I think the Milwaukee wrenches are Taiwan made. They seem way overpriced for what you could get for same money.
The company is Chinese owned.

I have the Sunex V groove 9915A set on my service truck & they have been quite good for the past 8 years. 3/8" thru 1 1/4" in a canvas roll, full polish for $74 on Amazon.

Just wondering why are you requesting Chinease as COO? Is it all about price? When you get into that catagory you are opening pandoas box with so much overlap with other COO products. The same price range and a huge range in quality. I would just look at Price/quality and not worry about COO.
Most discussions about COO are Patriotic in nature or just concerned with quality.
Just from observing threads for a many years here, I see people tend to feel good about the quality of most hand tools made in Tiwain. Not China but mayby at some point in the future. Also, China may govern Tiwain at some point. Then every thing From Tiwain will be labeled China.

Just go on Amazon/eBay and you will see many combination wrench sets made in China. Different brand of which many look identical.

I think the only set of PRC Chinese made wrenches I have are a set of SATA combination wrenches with the deep offset boxed end. They're not bad as long as you don't look too close at the finish. If you buy current Gearwrench, Husky, or Crescent combination wrench sets, they're all made in the SATA plant in the PRC. Amazon usually has them on sale with a pretty good range of sizes.
As for Taiwan made wrenches, I've got several sets that I like. Carlyle, Tekton, Capri, OEM Tools, Craftsman V Series (current production) Dewalt (older long pattern with anti slip open ends), Toptul, MAC Precision Torque, and Taiwan made Gearwrench. I think that's most of them. I want to try the new Die Hard long pattern combination wrenches with the anti slip open end but, I'm afraid someone would use the purchase of yet another wrench set as grounds for committal to institution of some type

If I needed a really good quality beater set of wrenches to work on cars, I would just buy these, I rarely use the open ends anyway.

For the money you won't buy better spanners.

If you don't have to pay VAT they are a no brainer

I don't disagree, but the 10 degree offset would be better for general use.

I kind of only partially trust my Gearwrench set. It's all 6 point which is why I bought it in the first place but compared to the Craftsman 6 point set, I'd rather use the latter than the former on an unknown oil drain plug. The GW just don't feel right.

while we're speaking of combination wrenches, I'm surprised no one mentioned the new Torque Test channel video on You Tube where they test various combination wrench open ends. Great Video!!!!
Funny you mentioned that. I just put it on my watch list when it came out.

My local store has a Do-It-Best Hardware section. They are currently offering sets of chrome combination wrenches on the aisle end cap for twenty bucks. I don't remember if they are Crescent or Channellock but they are basic Chinesium chrome wrenches. I had a set in my hand but WTF do I need of another set of combination wrenches?

I bought a set of Crescent combination wrenches (made in China) for my truck box. I’ve only used them a couple of times but no complaints so far (no rounding, no spreading that I could tell). They’re dirt cheap on ebay, maybe they fit what the OP is looking for.

Home Depot-Husky? Also an APEX product.
And for the sake of the Taiwanese people, I hope Mainland China never "governs" them.
They’re made in India now, and appear to be a major step down from the older Chinese ones (I can’t believe I’m saying that).
A couple pictures I took the other day at a Home Depot. 1D073838-47A1-4FA8-822C-A138D2307B9D.jpeg

SMH. I’m seeing more tools made in India. The Power Torque wrenches at O’Reilly are also made there, same with the Craftsman raised panels.

It makes one long for the day when you could walk into a store and buy a quality set of Chinese made wrenches.

Give the Indians time & they will get there. I remember when Chinese tools looked like that & way back when I was a boy Japanese tools looked like that.
