What we need for Williams drive tools is anything from 1930 to 1936, 4.c. We have pretty much blanket coverage from 1937 through the 1950's.
I’m a little late to the party I guess, but can anyone tell me anything about this S-330 socket set? It belonged to my great grandfather who was born in the late 1890s.

I’ve been collecting these Williams obstruction wrenches for a few years now. There are a total of 34 SAE wrenches in the set. So far I have 22 with several duplicates. There’s about a dozen Whitworth wrenches. I have four. I’ve also come across a couple marked “SPECIAL.”

Hey Lugz,

Thanks for the kudos! Those obstruction wrenches are really tough to find in any condition. I have a few that are gem mint, but most are with some patina at least. Then there’s a few more with less than attractive prior owners marks and initials and a couple with signs of abuse. I‘m constantly trying to upgrade some of those whose condition isn’t great and I’m always looking for examples that I don’t have. I sometimes wonder if I’ll ever complete this set.

Very nice!
:+1:

Like it just jumped off the catalog page!

Bantam No 5.jpg

It's complete, by the way. The catalog always showed the No. 6 set, which had three (3) more sockets than the No. 5. (Oh, and that adapter in the socket tray is an extra piece your dad probably stuck inside.) And if you're curious about the name, Midget was their 9/32- and later 1/4-inch drive. Standard was 1/2-inch drive. Heavy Duty and Extra Heavy Duty for 3/4- and 1-inch drive, respectively. All the mfgrs used some sort of naming convention and I've always though the Williams Bantam name (with its allusion to the boxing weight class) was the coolest.

Found this J.H. Williams S-4 set from the early 1950s. The sockets are double line with the smaller ones matte finished on the lower portion. The ratchet is the S-51. S-4 sets from 1955+ had the S-52 rat. The set is missing two sockets--the ST-1230 and the ST-1218. If any one has extras, I'm interested!

Looked around a little more and turned up this box, but nothing in it. I'm guessing it must have been a 1/4 inch drive set.

They later dropped the n... which was added initially to distinguish the 1/4" drive from the discontinued 9/32" drive.

Very nice. The wrenches were Williams, and the drive tools Husky.
A fellow member was kind enough to work out a deal for this little set I was chasing. A bit later set, because all piece are Williams. Eventually I plan to dig out my joint Williams-Husky set , see if it’s complete, and compare the two side by side.

Correct. The M in NM-2 is for "Midget", Williams designation for their 1/4" line.
Here is the contents list for that box:

I might have seen those pliers, I will have to look again this weekend.
Do you know when this set would have been sold? I'm trying to figure out about when he would have bought it.

^ When I looked at the photos, it brought back memories of those instances where I actually had to use a wrench to put in a set of points or a condenser and made me wonder "How do you get that much wrench inside the distributor, and what nut inside what distributor is going to allow access for a box wrench?"
