Some progress on future shop. Some anchor bolts and rebar security anchors. Don’t need no one stealing my stuff 8F44C8C5-4BDF-4E55-8D42-4ADD3CE1C1AB.jpeg

An hour to dismantle, 3 hours to stand just the walls. Bob, I gotta say, you’re Superman getting the things you do, done.

Between a wheelbarrow with a 60# bag of ready mix in it, two tie downs and two trees, I got to this point. 🥵
Only two minor slices.

A little more progress on the new shop. Last Sunday, finished the roof install.

Doors will be installed later.
Today mixed concrete and placed anchors.

Loop is for securing the lawn mower and corner anchors will hopefully keep wind from blowing the shop away.
On way home, picked up a Columbian vise on a well made bench.

It’s for sale if anyone is looking.

Slept in this morning then started weeding the front flowerbeds until I got to the sunny areas. Nap time.
Went to the shop to do some projects. The Hoe’s cover was falling apart so got a replacement. She needed a bath first.

Fits a lot better. While she was drying….
Welcome to the jungle.

Spring must have been good for growing. If it looks like, smells like and taste like poison Ivy, is it?

After getting this part finished, I found the weed killer.
Another pending project out of the way was cutting down this grate I picked up for welding table. Started with cutoff wheel, then circular saw, ugh. Do I want to drag the torch out? Sure. Amazing what an almost properly set torch can cut. This leftover piece will be perfect for a burn barrel EE919F70-BE57-431F-8E83-5D2D56B57A1A.jpeg

Now if I can get John to share his concrete guys info, I can get a slab and apron for the shop. 😜

Also cleaned up the chainsaw since it hasn’t been ran in over a decade.

And off to cut logs. What could go wrong?

Saw cut great. Yes I worn the steel safety shoes that Mack gave me but didn’t help my arm. 3C8E562D-B218-4D1A-9457-37566C507C23.jpeg
Lumberjacking at 62 isn’t as easy as it was at 40.

While painting, cleaning and putting stuff away, I fired up the blast cabinet and started another project to go with the others in progress.
Primed, ready for paint. It will probably be a couple of weeks before I can get to the two big pieces.

Shorty, I get cuts like those opening a jar of pickles. You might try tying that arm behind your back when handling a chainsaw. I was under the impression chain saws were one-handed tools. Occasionally also one-legged tools as well.

Back to trying to be Gene Winfield and doing a great job at doing a bad impression.
Here’s the challenge. 84’ Chevy that had a tree branch go through the windshield. When glass company went to install new windshield, they said nope because of the cancer.

I volunteered because I thought it would be a good challenge and learning experience that didn’t require restoration quality.
Today I fabbed up the piece for the center hole.
First tried clamping sheet metal to some round stock but it was squirrelly.

Then I remembered some videos of press brakes.

worked out well. The finished piece.

Wish my welder would do better spot welding. I guess a a lot of grinding, half gallon of filler and 10 coats of high build primer will make it look half as good as what Don can do. 😳

Did get some QST yesterday. While the primer dried, I fixed my axe.
Watched a video and figured I could learn a new skill. Being a German descendant, I like that the axe head is from Germany.

I forgot one important part so I broke out the Andy Martin big punch.

Do you know you can pick up a kayak or young chicks from Tractor Supply but not an axe handle wedge kit? 🤔

While second coat of primer sealer dried, finish up the vise clean and paint project. Scotchbrite paint stripper wheel and wire wheel made quick work of removing the two layers of paint.

The date wasn’t stamped on the bottom of the slide like most Bullets but I did find it. Appears this vise was made in Wilton’s original factory in Chicago.

Now to finish up the windshield frame. Here’s my attempt at the Winfield fade. E72615F1-EC7D-4D85-B190-18349129CB14.jpeg
The finished (???) product.

Not happy with it but have an appreciation for those that know what they’re doing. I’m an expert at demo but my ability continues straight downhill to the final step. Definitely need to get some practice panels to work on and learn.
p.s. Patience. This type of works takes a lot of patience. I think when the stork was handing out patience, I must have heard “you want to be a patient?”

The roll going down to the cowl is too sharp and the corner curve doesn’t flow as well as it should. Find out Tuesday if they can get the windshield installed.

While the paint dried on the truck, I finished the Wilton. I was wanting the typical Rustoleum Hammered Verde Green but that is unattainium. Then looked at the turquoise paints that kinda match what I think was the vise’s first color. See above.
Didn’t think I’d like that so started looking at new cars that had a Verde Green look. This led to getting two spray cans of 67 Oldsmobile greens.

I decided on the Aquamarine Poly.

Here’s the vise next to my first bullet that actually came from the GM plant in the Atlanta area.

One down, two or three more to go.
Also, two of the 4 cabinets behind the vises came from same GM plant.

You may not win any awards for the windshield frame work, but it looks a ton better than it did. I'd say not too bad. Not great but probably worth 1,000 times what they paid for the repair. I'd rock it all day long and twice on Sunday.
