Hit a "small" sale today. Apparently the gentleman spent a lot of time at estate sales and flea markets buying a lot of tools, mostly Craftsman. I got there 2 hours after opening on the second day. There are/were hundreds of tools mostly Craftsman. I did skip a few hammers and hatchets but there is always tomorrow. https://postimg.cc/gallery/FsBb3fC

So I joined this forum in 2015. Never posted until last week or so (just a reader/lurker) knowing full well if I take one step into the rabbit hole, I'd plummet.

I love this thread the most as well as seeing vintage tools.

That said I hit up the local flea market on a lunch date with my daughter. She's buying cute stuff for herself and then she says, "that's the booth you'll like."

It was filled with hundreds and hundreds of tools.

I don't know wtf I'm really looking at... you all are the enthusiasts/experts. So I start picking up things and they're $0.20 ea, a $1 ea and the most expensive thing is $4 that I bought.

45 items and $80 later I'm lugging a box out of the joint. I'll get to posting pictures of the things I bought so you can either tell me I messed up or get me on the "U ****" path.

But before I do that, I saw this Snap On wall cabinet in the booth. Again I have no idea what it's worth but for $140 I'm not really taking a chance unless one of you **** yourself and say, "get it now!" I saw similar ones online but they were for AC specific tool cabinets or some other specific component. This just has wire shelves.

I can't imagine the Nutone timer is original?

When I think of a NuTone timer, I'm thinking bathroom fan accessory. They do make doorbells and central vacuum systems, not sure what other products (if any) they made in the past.

That cabinet does appear to be in good shape otherwise.

How firm is the price? I'd grab it without hesitation for $100 (or less).

That's what I'm thinking Mike.

If I could drop $140 with no guilt, I'd take a chance on this thing but without knowing a single lick of info on it, I can't.

I also see online where the model number (eg KR273) is stamped on the cabinet but I couldn't find anything on this one. Granted the access to it was extremely limited.

BTW, Heart fan, @Madjik Man???

Mike

I am, but that's not where my name comes from.

Long story short I used to be a part of a trading rings of concert bootlegs back in the day. Started with the mailing of cassette tapes (in the 80s/90s), then CDs (and eventually just purely digital uploads/downloads).

I had a highly coveted/prized Led Zeppelin bootleg at the time, very rare. There was a guy in Holland that had something of worthy of trade so I pulled the trigger with him. Sent him the CD. A few weeks later after he received it and listened to it he reported back on the thread saying something to the effect of (in broken English), "absolutely incredible show, great sound, it's like madjik, man." Everyone got a kick out of that spelling.

It stuck.

It looks to me like some kind of heater, drying oven,UV etc. Certainly not a from the factory snappy item. The Snap On cabinet has been repurposed. Would be interesting to know the new purpose. Also someone will be in shortly to let you know you cannot **** yourself, nor ask for said suckage, but the judges may give you a small waiver since you haven't posted pics of the $80 haul.

While driving by an Apartment Complex today, I found this Aluminum Lawn Rocker Chair along with this wooden stand. I never saw an aluminum rocker chair before. I keep two regular aluminum chairs in my car (light weight) because I don't like the sunken feeling of the portable umbrella chairs. I will use the stand for my Belt Sander and give the chair to my Mother. .

My first thought was for heating paint?

I just DQ'd myself, great.

Good call on the potential repurposing. I felt behind the sheet metal panel and it may have been a tube light bulb behind it. I honestly had a hard time reaching the cabinet so I couldn't really investigate.

Once again, not so fast, Moosebreath.

First, congratulations on finally coming out of the lurker closet and actively participating in the thread. Welcome!
Second, given your recent admission that this is your favorite thread and therefore your presumable familiarity with the pertanent guidance in post #1, specifically "...you cannot **** yourself and it is still illegal in most states to solicit suckage, so don’t do it here," you should have known you were treading on thin ice.

However, the effusive nature of your breakout post after seven long years of silence is understandable and demonstrates more self control than I myself could have mustered, and therefore, your unfortunate faux pas will be overlooked. This once.

But I'll be watching you.

Aye, aye Capt.

Does honesty go a long way here?

I didn't start with post #1 of this thread. It was more like page 62 and worked my way back.

Because I'm an idiot.

@Madjik Man: That's a cool story. I have a similar one related to college. I went by Majic for an entire year (misspelling courtesy of a very hot girl who was either drunk or dumb as a box of rocks when she wrote that on my door). There were a ton of people who never knew my actual name.

I do love Heart, though. First concert I ever attended.

Back on topic, I forgot about the solicitation loophole, LOL... But, I'd buy that cabinet by now!

Okay, here's a little sneak peak.

There were dozens of these taped up bundles of "Misc wrenches." Most of them were $1, some were $1.25, $1.50 and $2. No rhyme or reason and completely random mix of stuff.

Some of the tools have the guy's name engraved into them with, oddly enough, what appears to be his social security number.

The sentimental part of me wants to believe that this guy used these tools for decades (seems like some are around WWII age) and passed away. And his family just dumped them in a flea market for dirt cheap.

They're probably not worth much of anything. But if I can clean these up and use them... I can continue his legacy.

If not and he's still alive and was just tired of hoarding too many tools... look out John. I have your full name and SSN. I'm gonna stock my garage with every Snap On tool available for purchase.... against your credit.

Mind you, I've only heard of Armstrong out of this group before using my brown belt in Google Fu.

Armstrong 4118 (9/16 flare nut wrench)
Eclipse double open end 1/2-9/16
Indestro Super 1027 double open end 11/16-19/32
P&C 2824 double open end 3/4 - 5/8
Plomb 3430 thin open end wrench 5/8

$2 for this group

(edit, no idea why the last photo won't upload but you get the point)

Honesty is, of course, vital--but there's no need to advertise your handicap. If you worked your way back to post #1 from page 62, it should be freshest in your memory and I may have to re-think my leniency--unless you're a slow reader and haven't made it all the way back to #1 yet. In that case, I suggest you go there immediately and start reading chronologically.

If I'm being honest, again, Boss... I probably got to page 40-something. Then saw another shiny object thread and flocked to that.

The only one of this bunch I could find anything on is the Par-X B016 1/2". Seems like it's a Snap On brand.

Don't know much about this guy. 725B seems to be a pretty common model number amongst different manufacturers/brands.

This first one is a bit perplexing. I've seen the Lectrolite/TruFit thread here but this double box end doesn't have any Lectrolite markings/reference. And I've seen these TruFit double box ends on Ebay that look just like mine.

The second one appears to be a Thorsen Tool Company Action wrench (2020 A 5/8")

Kidding!

725B seems to be a pretty common model number amongst different manufacturers/brands.
All those kinds of numbers, indicating the opening sizes, were derived from an early Williams model numbering system and were indeed largely adopted by the rest of industry by the 1930's. The 725B is the most commonly found, because that 9/16 x 1/2 pairing was very popular for use. You can find that explanation in the Helpful Hints section of the Sticky on the Vintage Board. You could peruse the A-Z threads list while you're there to familiarize yourself with various brands. And you might want to read through the DOE wrenches thread, especially if you're going to start picking them up in bunches, to see which are rare, which are common, etc, and learn more about markings. Even at flea market prices, they start to add up in space-taking. Unless they're just users, in which case the only thing that matters is sizes.

Hard to believe my last haul was 23 days ago! I made an executive decision to get out to the flea no matter what today and I came home with a few goodies (Lugz 2022_31), including a light duty double deep offset BONALOY DBE from 1941, a McKaig-Hatch SOE with a hex throat, Klein pliers from 4th Qtr 1955, a WWII throat mic, and a board game - 100% complete and super never-been-used clean - I can't wait to pull out at my next dinner party, just to watch all the anti-patriarchy heads explode.

Went to an all-timer estate sale in the little town of West Columbia, TX. Ended up with the following:

Kurt 688 machinist vise - $60
Darex Drill Bit Sharpener - $50
Aloris BXA tool post and 7 holders - $80
Starrett 797 digital caliper - $18
TECO FM100 VFD - $80
Assortment of import and Federal dial indicators - $4 each
Kurt D6 swivel base - $28

yard07.jpg
yard06.jpgyard03.jpgyard05.jpg

yard02.jpgyard01.jpg

I got screwed out of another Darex sharpener. The deal was that they had two part tags on some of the bigger items. You were supposed to tear off the bottom tag and when you were finished with your shopping, you take the tags to the check out, pay and then the workers will load you up. I tore the bottom tag off the other Darex, but some a-hole tore off the whole tag and took the machine up to the check out and told the cashier that there was no tag on there!! So they sold it to him and he left. *******! I got the last laugh though as they put all the tool holders in a plastic bag. So I ended up with the tool holders for both machines. So F that *****.

Late 30's through wartime up to 1946-ish SK.
Plus this little box full of New Britain coated in greasy gunk
All of NB's production in that era, including Craftsman BE/(H), came with that dried BLO/varnish as a rust-preventive preservative. Needless to say, it worked!

That 60-1/2 plane is one of my favorite user block planes. Too bad about IOB.

I have the similar SK box, ~1949 vintage on mine, came with a 4053W 1/2" drive set, complete, inside. Plus a lot of other **** I will be dispositioning soon.
