Yes, it's another "what is this please?" A not very sharp thing for sawing??

Another UK Car Boot find, and well worth the £1 paid for it to find out what it is.

It's saw-like but not sharp at all, and it looks to me that it was never sharp. You can press your finger as hard as you like along the serrated edge without any discomfort at all. It's very primitively made, home-made I'd say, but if I knew what I was talking about, I wouldn't need to come here to ask you guys...

The handle design suggests it needs quite a lot of force to do whatever it is that it does. The end was particularly rusty, so I polished it. And the end bends slightly to one side, which might give a clue as to what it is. Or it might be obvious to all but me!

Well, to be fair, the owner had no idea either, so I'm not alone.

Thanks, Iain

My guess is somekne took an anti-kickback pawl from a table saw, and put a handle on it. Not sure why someone would do that but...

That was clearly forged as one piece and not stuck together. It appears to be wrought iron, with a bit of carbon steel forge welded in to form the teeth, so it was also clearly made to cut something. What? I've no idea.

obviously a tool for reaching into deep areas probably smaller than the human hand, requiring cutting/scraping action but not needing to be precise. the handle is shaped so you can get a good grip for twisting action. maybe something for a veterinarian of farm animals? dare I say, a personal item of Dr. Herriott?
