Variable speed blower and the proper control allows for dehumidification on a traditional split system.
I had the same thing happen in my 40X60X20 shop. I asked about mini splits and they said the cost for "them" to do the mini split systems was not much of a savings over a conventional split system at 5 ton.Just out of curiosity, I had an AC company come by and look at my shop. They told me that no mini-split system would be capable of cooling my shop and that I would have to have a conventional split system starting at $14K to $16K. If this is true, I will never have AC.
I never really understood that. Single head minis go in so fast - especially on something like a shop. You can have everything in position, mounted, linesets hooked up, and wired up in like less than an hour per unit if you have one guy outside and another inside. As soon as the first unit is all hooked up, you can start it leak checking while you do the second. By the time you finished getting the second or third unit, the first is probably ready for its evac if it passed the leak test. ...and since the system capacities are usually quite small with mini splits, they vacuum down fast.I had the same thing happen in my 40X60X20 shop. So I'm in the same boat as you..."risk it" and just give it a try or bite the bullet and have a pro do it.
I guess I’ll have to try to find someone to come out and perform a load test of the shop.I had the same thing happen in my 40X60X20 shop. I asked about mini splits and they said the cost for "them" to do the mini split systems was not much of a savings over a conventional split system at 5 ton.

24x30x 12 wall one insulated walk in with a 10x10 and 12x10 roll up door with 2 inch closed cell. 24,000 21 SER mini split. This summer it is having all it can do to keep up during the day. Last months bill 110 with shop use tied in. I insulated the roll up door with double bubble not the best but is is better that nothing. You size of building I don't think that it will keep up. As for the electric bill more that happy.
