Down the road, I may make a custom 5 gallon bucket carrier. I have always thought of it and think I can make a really good one.

I would mostly use nonmetallic pipe to hold screwdrivers, nutdrivers, etc. on the inner wall, totally enclosed. I think I have seen seat lids in catalogs, so it would be good for break or lunch. Totally enclosed protects from rain & snags. PVC pipe may be good, as it is light & still some cheaper than metal. Pex too maybe, haven't priced it.

My main question is which pipe/glue would be most compatible. I have used lots of PVC glue but never tried it on a bucket. I've never worked with Pex and the glue for it. I would greatly prefer glue over drilling and doing screws or rivets. Time consuming and adds holes to be sealed.

Thanks for any thoughts.

I have such a foam seat that fits on a 5-gal bucket, so I suspect they can be bought separately. The bucket I have is for fishing, holding tackle or bait, then you put the seat lid on and sit while you're waiting for a bite. So you might look into the fishing tackle market to find one.

I think the pvc pipe is a great idea. I've never done anything like this, but I would imagine there's a number of construction adhesives on the market that would work quite well if the surfaces are roughened. Epoxy would work, but it seems that mixing multiple batches would be more tedious and time consuming by comparison.

Please share photos when you get it done!

The 5 gallon bucket & seat/lid was the greatest "peanut butter + chocolate" moment ever.

You might try experimenting with Liquid Nails. That stuff tends to stick to everything. Takes a while to cure though.

Another option might be to make it removable from the bucket. You could still make it out of PVC or whatever but it wouldn't need to be attached to the bucket. Kinda like this:

Now that is cool.

I had 1 liner years ago hat I liked and never found another one. It was heavy duty & had all the right pockets & sleeves. Lots of them are easily torn & not arranged properly. Maybe I’m too picky. And this is partly just wanting to do something different. If I can make a good one, I’ll probably give it to my daughter. I don’t need one at my present job either. I could use one if I ever do more side work. I’ve cut back on that to simple jobs very close by. I now work 3rd shift, so I stay pretty exhausted. Might also be a good retirement thing, to make a box for anyone needing it. “Bring me your tools and I’ll create a bucket for them”.

I've got an orange Home Depot bucket lid with a screw-on center and plywood dividers inside. Waterproof. Sits in the bed of my truck and gets ignored by Tweekers and Crackheads. Holds the "Tools for Fools" collection.
