I think the world of devices makes it worse now too. My youngest will get so absorbed in what he's doing/watching that he doesn't realize it's time for a pee stop until his back teeth are floating. Then it's an emergency RIGHT HERE moment.
None of my family likes to travel with me, my dad trucked for most of his life (on top of the farming)...so when we roll out, we have a purpose. I was also a territory manager for an AG manufacturing company for a lot of years, so I was covering about 125k miles per year. You only stop for fuel and that's the appropriate time for bathroom breaks and snack procurement.
One of my sisters lives in Mesa, it takes about 1.5days for me alone to make it driving from the Northeast corner of KS. I can't imagine doing that with family and then travelling on to Indiana!
