Hey fellas, I'm done hosting that content... If you come hear to argue for or against HF and their quality vs. other tool manufacturers, you need to find another forum. In fact, if you are hear to argue at all... take a hike... I'm tired of reading that ****... and if I am, most of you must be as well.

If you come here to discuss tools and their use, welcome... Stay on track. This place rules.

Thanks Ryan, I like to read about peoples experiences with their HF and all tools but the fighting gets in the way of the good info.

Does this mean HF cannot be discussed at all or just comparing their products to other manufacturers?
Being on a fixed income I can’t afford the truck tools and rarely find anything at garage sales or flea markets. I enjoy hearing the guys [and gals] experiences of using some of the HF tools, good and bad. Most of the Pass/Fail thread was very informative.
But I do agree the bashing had to go.

No, this means no hijacking threads and staying on subject:thumbup:

The group Tool is sort of the 'Snap-On' of 90s rock bands.

In other words, people who like Tool, really like Tool.

I am all for threads staying on topic but if the topic is HF vs. brand X or US made vs. ChiComm who cares. If a person doesn't want to read it don't click the link. It is just 1's and 0's, if someone goes there of thier own free will and stays long enough to get their ego bruised who really gives a **** (other than the ninny)?

This is just MHO and it's your forum. Either way I'm not going to take my ball and go home. I guess I just have a thicker skin than some.

This forum is the best and will likely continue to be regardless. All your boards rock Ryan. I just wish I had more time to be on them.

Bottom line, no more arguing... period.

Will there be a new infraction for arguing that mods should use? Or will the current list stay the same?

Just wondering about enforcement.

I'd don't post much but I read the board every day and I'm glad to see something being done about the repetitive bickering and thread highjacking.

Am I safe to assume it's still okay to ask for opinions and give review on HF products? For example, asking for adivice on whether to buy the HF or Autozone (Quest) a/c manifold guage set or giving a review that I've used both and one leaked while the other worked well. (Just an example, I've used neither).

Trying to cypher what you said and mean, Ryan, so I can stay within bounds.

Sounds like what you're saying is you don't want HF compared to other brands, but your are OK with commentary on particular HF items (as long as it's not comparative to other brands). So that means the HF Pass/Fail thread with over 200,000 views is OK, right?

Would it be illegal to say, "my HF *** broke, so I purchased YYY brand and it's working fine"? Or what about "I paid too much for my YYY brand, and it broke, so I replaced it with a HF *** and I'm happy"?

Not sure how to read the 'arguing' comment, since virtually all forums are gathering places for people of common interests with differing opinions. I'm certain you don't mean we all have to agree with each other on everything from now on...perhaps your comment refers to negative "bashing" tone rather than differing opinions in the discussion itself?

I'll admit to some confusion, here.

I would have thought it was quite clear, as long as you understand the difference between arguing and debating. However - if it helps - just try to be positive.........

In other words - if you think that product "A" is better than product "B" - then say why you think "A" is better, rather than saying why you think "B" is inferior

In other words don't "push it over the edge"

"blow it out of proportion"

"beat a dead horse"

"take it to the outer limits"

"wrongfully target"

"upset the apple cart"

"turn it upside down"

and lastly

"stop drinking that skunky beer!":lol_hitti

If discussions about HF tools are banned, who will be the new redheaded step child, Craftsman??? When Craftsman discussions are banned, who will be next?

When a question is posted on a forum, I do not post a reply for the sole benefit of the original poster. I am also replying to benefit other readers and also for future readers who are using the search feature.

I would have thought discussing a manufacturer's quality (or lack of) was a reasonable use of a tool forum.

I would agree that making blanket statements such as "Harbor Freight tools are all ****" is inappropriate. Politely pointing out positive results or pontential problems a person has had with a specific tool (or a very similar tool) would be a benefit for others considering a purchase.

It's your forum Ryan. Just my thoughts.

hes not saying we can't talk about hf tools. hes saying not to start or get into arguements about hf or anything else for that matter.

and i'd also like to thank ryan for stepping up to post this. it gets old having the tool-snobs and such come into every usefull thread about hf and talk ****. it should make reading this board a much nicer experience

I'm telling you not to argue. It's as simple as that.

People argue because they are passionate about a subject.

People come to a tool board because they are passionate about tools. :headscrat

I have no problem with Harbor Freight and I do own some of their tools. What I have a problem with is the recent spamming of the board with HF propaganda.

there i fixed it for you

Uh oh is thread about to turn into an argument ;) In my opinion saying there was HF spamming going on here is an exaggeration. There were (as I recall) 4 HF specific posts and besides all the COO rhetoric they were some of the more interesting threads here in a while.

You can be passionate about tools WITHOUT antagonizing people into your specific point of view.

I've read some good, informative threads, only to be interjected with a one line response similar to the following:

"Those tools are junk."
"Don't buy these Chinese junk. Buy American."

Sure, I just glaze over them and make a mental note about who the poster is and move on.

If people take the time to properly word their responses, not only does it show their intelligence in the subject at hand, but it also provides them credibility and adds value to the discussion.

Ryan is trying to tell us not to judge based on COO alone because that's just plain ignorant

Uh...without arguing with you...I'll point out that he did not mention COO. I'm certain he is not banning discussions of COO. I don't believe Ryan is a university professor trying to run a politically correct classroom.

Ah, screw it, I can't make heads or tails of it. I'm going to HF and buy something.

my first post was a little short but my second one talking about blanket threads came to mind just like said above!
