Nothing too exciting, but finally started the CBX after about 10 years after getting the carbs rebuilt, tank cleaned out and some other odds and ends. Seems to run ok. Took it for a short ride around the block after the vid. Unfortunately my iPhone mostly picked up the clutch rattle (normal on these bikes) more than the engine running.

Love the CBX, I had a '79 and an '80, both red. Awesome engine, very linear power band, smooth as an electric motor and the sound that only a 6 cylinder can make.

Watching the movie”The Last Indian”where Anthony Hopkins character was making his own pistons, I got interested in the process. After a little research, I realized I wasnt nearly skilled or patient enough..lol Nice work.

Friend of mine worked on Amshel Rothschild's Bugatti's. He needed to make some new pistons. He used old ones melted down & cast into new ones. The thinking was "We already know it's the right alloy for pistons". He also used some of the same pot to cast a couple of distributors.

Got the front of the ZX11 up on the stand.

Gave the coolant line a quick polish..



Still need to do something about the rust on the headers. I have a cunning plan...
Also need to pull the rear wheel, check the bearings & suspendies bushings/linkages etc.

Evidence of a well buggered fork seal (which I sorted a couple of days ago) Will be pulling the guard for cleaning & some black Hammertone paint. Declag the rad.

Not much at work just a bunch or state inspections unfortunately lol. Just had to watch my “kids” do stuff haha. I love being paid to sit on my tail and boss the younger ones around most of the time and I’m young too . I do regular work too just usually I can’t get anything done without one of them up my sleeve about something or needed help because they snapped a stud or something lol.

Yesterday and today been cleaning the internals of the push mower engine. Let’s just say the internet lied to me about the oil capacity so I put way too much in. Finally got it cleaned up and running right. I cleaned the new spark plug, new air filter and carburetor. All of it was filled with oil. I felt like an idiot but I have no idea where the owners manual is and it’s one of those never change the oil ones so maybe it could of had some left too. But either way it’s dixned and I learned to check as you add. Let’s just say the mower holds around 20oz I put the whole 48 in because the internet said for that particular engine it was 48. Could of saved money getting the smaller thing of oil lol.

Decided to vacuum my truck after the road trip, and hang some air fresheners. So I grabbed my grampas shop vac he dug out of the dumpster of his moms apartment trash probably 30+ years ago.

I know some of y’all are screaming at the pic saying the vacuum is sitting sideways. And you’re correct lol

New carburetor for the son's go-kart came in. We didn't get a chance to install it, but I showed him how you can blow into the fuel inlet and turn the carb upside down to make the float close it off.

On another topic, I see why you had a difficult time with the front stand on the bike. The type that goes in the bottom of the forks has way more leverage. The style you have might be a little more stable though.

Unpacked the first couple boxes of parts for the upgraded steering / brakes on my Jeep XJ. My old Currie steering setup is shot and brakes are worn out, so I'm swapping to WJ brakes and steering. Better steering geometry, bigger brakes, etc. Track bar, drag link and tie rod are 1.5" solid 7075 aluminum and will be using 1-Ton Chevy tie rod ends. Still need to source knuckles, calipers, rotors and some other miscellaneous pieces.

Started on the right side of the front wheel. This had more clearcoat damage than the rear wheel & the other sided of the front, so more marks in the actual metal.
Fired up the powertools to polish this side.
Issue is I want it shiny, but I don't want some polishing shop to obliterate the machining lines.

Next up is IRAN the front brakes.

Pulled a bunch of stuff of the wall. Hung a big TV. Put the hose reel back on the wall. Made a rack for the bar clamps. Fiddled with the new to me tv and remote. Ordered a new remote. Fixed a couple badly chipped nails. Cleaned.

Got tired of the broken plastics on my front bumper. So…

Boneyard bound!

Found a good straight chrome bumper, then laid my eyes upon this masterpiece!

For those that don’t know, there’s an “off—road” edition truck that uses a sport bumper with special cutouts for factory tow/recovery hooks. The bumper and hooks are extremely rare in this part of the country apparently. The hooks themselves sell for $250+ in good condition.

Got the bumper for $130, then had to go to another junkyard for the missing/broken passenger hoop/support, the fog lights, and a sport grille.


THEN, was reminded that I had agreed to help a friend retrieve a trailer tomorrow. He took it there with his van, but his van broke down. So I threw my truck together minus bumper cover, as I had already started prepping it for paint. After a good wash tomorrow morning, it should be decent enough to not look “bad” lol

Made great progress putting the ZX11 back together, pretty much all done except the fairing lowers.

Then I remembered I hadn't hooked up the ******** wiring connector for the headlight & front turn signals...
Got that sorted after some disassembly & reassembly.

Now I need to put the screen back on, fit the tank surround doodad, bolt the gas tank down AND fit the fairing lowers... That's tomorrows project.

Well it only took 5 years but I finally built a camper dolly. I have wanted to do this at several houses we had, but just never got it done.

It works well for moving it and then I put the jacks back down to store it. No need to keep all the weight on the dolly.

This was built with wood I already had. The 3/4 ply was already cut in those sections, so why waste another sheet. I used 6” casters. Pretty happy with it.

IMHO there is absolutely no better tool for cutting rubber hose and molding or rope than these. My wife got me mine years ago and I love them.

I am a bit confused about you "sharpening" them. Isn't it a replaceable razor blade? I still have the original blade in mine and worried about finding a replacement when the need arrises.

Reassembled the A/C with new hose, new compressor, new drier.



Vac’d it down.



Pressurized to 100psi with N2. If it holds overnight, I’ll charge it up, and reassemble everything else.

While waiting for the hose, I started looking at this. The under dash box with the evaporator and heater core. The outlets are unhelpfully placed. Left is aimed directly in to the cowl vent handle. Middle two aimed forward, which is kinda ok, but not great. Right is aimed at the wall / kick panel, not used and blocked with duct tape.



Six screws and it’s off for a better look.

Took some measurements. It’s going back on for now. Gotta go learn some 3D CAD and find a place with a 3D printer. I think a deeper box, three outlets on top, would work and look better.

I know what I want, just gotta figure out how to do it.

2 1/2 lbs of r134a. About 85F ambient, maybe closer to 90F with the engine running and making heat. 35 psi low / 275 psi high. 36F at the vent.

Now I need to put the rest of it back together. Waiting for it to cool down. Probably going to mow the lawn while I’m waiting.

And my truck blew a brake line yesterday (rust). The long one to the back that’s a pain to replace.

Welded some scraps of steel into supports for a shelf. Usually i choose 7014 electrode; but today i used 6011.

The 6011 has been in my shop for a lot of years, maybe 20. Using 6011 rather than 7014, is a new experience for me.

Noticed on the last trip from CA to IN, that the blower was acting funky. Couldn’t tell if it was working on all speeds or not. But since it was winter, and the snow/salt was flying, I parked the truck. That and it broke down lmao.


On this trip from IN to CA, the blower worked on high only. Meaning the resistor was bad.

Ordered one from Amazon( $25 online vs $50 at a B&M), it showed up and I put it in.

I was tempted to solder the old one together, but the ceramic is fractured, and the metal corroded. Plus, I’ve seen some posts on some 2nd gen Cummins pages of trucks burning down attributed to these resistors. My truck is worth the $25 hahahaha

Got the ZX back together. Took it for a test ride. Only one small part fell off (thanks to a buggered thread that I thought might hold) Local dealership actually had the part in stock (aluminum collar).
Picking it up next weekend. Will be fixing the stripped thread doodad with a rivnut.

Into the garage, turned off the water main and got plumbing tools. Into the bathroom and removed single handle shower faucet handle and valve. Replaced valve with new Kohler parts and then polished the brushed nickel finish. Took the tools back to the garage turned on the water and no leaks. Cleaned up my mess. Heat hit 98 in the shop so back inside.

That's one light job I forgot about - I redid the cord on my new to me 1950 Singer 221 featherweight machine. It runs now,and I just need a bobbin case now to use it.

Once that is all operational and tested, I'l try to snag a zig-zag attachment and maybe a walking foot attachment. Then sell a couple others I won't need.
