The camera shoots a 360-degree sphere, and it's mounted on top of a pole -- like a selfie stick -- and it erases the pole out of the image automatically. I can't claim to understand it. :)

Here's my 10-year-old standing next to it. (The camera isn't mounted in the picture, though.)

Jack, I assume that that camera removes the pole the same way a modern BMW creates a birds'-eye view from just a few external cameras: uhh... something to do with software?

I can't find it, but I think one of the first South Main Auto videos I ever saw, he diagnosed a peculiar problem with an Isuzu Trooper, when he found a scrap of that oil bottle foil obstructing something in the valvetrain.

My first thought for your car is, "Well, make sure you buy something in 5 quart jugs, like Mobil1 15W-50, to reduce the number of foils you have to monkey with. Or buy an oil without a foil! (Schaeffer's comes to mind, only because there aren't many brands of oil in my workshop and that's 2 out of 6 cars right now...)

But really, a funnel with a screen mesh in it would have caught that! Alas, last time I hunted for a funnel with a mesh in it, I did not get very far and only found something too small for the the 12+ quarts you need to pour.

Well, well, well..

Especially:

Cheap!

Now you merely need some tubing and a funnel holder on a vertical stand that stands outside the right fender, and you can pour in a civilized and safe fashion.

Speaking of funnels, I've taken to blowing them out for dust right before use.

Correction:
I've found screened funnels with ease at Wal-Mart/auto parts stores. This one has a screen in it. I have several and use them for ATF.

@Jack Olsen - I tried to visit your blog directly and it appears your personal domain/site may have gotten pwned. I
love your garage and content and wanted to read more.

Thanks. No, I let the 12-gaugegarage site expire. It had been a decade since I'd lost the master files, so it couldn't be updated. So I decided to let the website's 15 minutes of internet fame quietly fade away. Not much new -- although worth mentioning that it's still going strong and I use it every day.

Jack, I thought of another solution to the oil foil problem is to buy Red Line oil. I was puling this off a bottle of Red Line ATF yesterday when I realized, yes, their oil, ATF, and fuel system additive all have this little tab. My only problem with the tab is that I have no fingernails to speak of and then I wear surgical gloves, so I use a knife to find the edge of this tab and get it into upright position! Then you peel with it and the whole foil comes up.

There are many other and better reasons to use Red Line products, but this is another.

You sure it's not enthalpy?
While enthalpy (total heat) is certainly a problem in these 100 degree Texas days, I fortunately have an air conditioned garage (best thing about my garage).
The entropy (disorder / randomness) is, however, a problem in most areas of the garage. Unlike Jack, I do not have a place for everything...yet.

Thermo wasn't my strong suit.

Nor mine!
The second definition likely fits:

en·tro·py
/ˈentrəpē/

noun
1.
PHYSICS
a thermodynamic quantity representing the unavailability of a system's thermal energy for conversion into mechanical work, often interpreted as the degree of disorder or randomness in the system.
"the second law of thermodynamics says that entropy always increases with time"
2.
lack of order or predictability; gradual decline into disorder.
"a marketplace where entropy reigns supreme"

After reading this thread so many years ago I finally have my own 12ga cabinet.

Aside from searching for this for ~10 years, the best part is it came from a fellow GJ member friend that was ready to move on from it.

Is it overkill for what I need - 100%? But will last my lifetime and more for my use :)

Thanks @Jack Olsen for the inspiration!

By 12 Gauge I am assuming you mean Medium All Purpose, just like a 12 Gauge Shotgun.

A 12 Gauge rifled slug is 72 Caliber and big enough for almost any thing living on this continent.

Jack, first off, nice build! I've read the entire thread a couple of times and gives me some great ideas for my own space. Thanks for all the detail and videos.

I'm trying to figure out dimensions by counting tiles. Are they 12" or larger? It looks to be very tight between your car and the wall/bench.

Thanks! The tiles are 12" and the car is pretty small. The dimensions of the shop are 18-1/2'x20-1/2' with an additional alcove around the sink. The distance between the center bench ant the wall is 9-1/2'.

But there's not expanding it, without buying my neighbor's property. :)

If I had an extra 24" in both dimensions, I could race a Viper instead of a 911.

Ha! Thanks for the info, Jack. You have some good ideas here. Something as simple, but as important as the bench heights being the same height.

I'm hoping to have a 23' x 23' I.D. and am planning it out. It will hold a track car, a scissor lift as well with a single door. The right side will be a small woodshop with only a bandsaw and lathe. Most is done by hand.

I had to relocate my garden tools shed and in the back of my head was somewhere the style of your green one.
Used the space under a staircase so the dimensions are totally different. It will also be painted mat black in the spring instead of green. Thanks for the inspiration! Thom

That turned out nice.

I have learned to space the wood off the brick and metal enough that the space can dry, less rot and rust. It only takes a 1/4 inch or so.

You might not be able to see it in the picture but I squeezed some 3 mm foam between the wall and the wood. On the inside of the planks it is more obvious (there I used the orange foam as I had it still lying around and it was free). ;-)

16 years in, here's the garage again. Both the shop and the car got a clean-up and a reset, and I'll include a selfie-with-a-car to show the march of time's never-ending impact on the owner.

Sometimes people ask what I would do differently, with the perspective of hindsight. Honestly, not much. There are a few things (old towels, my painting tarps) that I wished I had a better storage spot for. But that's very minor. I still like the layout, the amount of workspace, the lift. Every time I go out there and the lights turn themselves on, there's a feeling of well-being that follows.

It's rarely this clean, but it's always pretty easy to get back to this point, which I like.

A few threads here on GJ have been completely impactful to so many. Its totally awesome that your thread here Jack, is top of the list.
Ya you guys can blame Jack for my presence here. Like a whole bunch of others I was looking at various ways of reorganizing my shop when I came upon his thread. Read the whole damn thing I did and got hooked on this joint.

Same here- almost copied the paint scheme, too- we used an industrial paint color called "Focal Green" for one of our customers that looks almost identical to Jack's.

But then I bought 50 doors worth of blue gym lockers and was too lazy to repaint them before I installed them....

This has been my source of inspiration from years back. I recently bought my “retirement home” - small 3-4 br house sitting on 900sqm so I can build a 3 car garage with a decent man cave.

Now to slowly use the rental income to “repair and upgrade” the property.
