I wondered why I was having a hard time getting in the cabs of the smaller CAT excavators, but had plenty of room in the 320, 328,330, 345 etc. Got looking at the serial # tag of a smaller one, MFD by Mitsubishi- cab is not designed around 6'2" / 250

I’ve always wanted a hoe. 3 years ago I bought a ‘93 Kubota, with less than 500 hours, 37 hp FEL, with a 3 pt. hoe, and a 12” bucket, and sold my smaller, older Kubota. I LOVE IT! At 74 yo, , trust me, it’s better than a pick and a shovel! Would I like a mini…..he’ll yes. I’m looking.

Had to replace a bunch before I was able to use it. My brother works for a logging company that has their own machine shop where they do their own repairs, hoses, etc. He got them made up very reasonably.
It always amazes me that "rubber hoses" can with stand the amount of pressure need to move the parts of an excavator and stay flexible for years exposed to UV !

Wow, you really think its the rubber that holds the pressure. You do realize that they are mostly braided steel with a small amount of rubber inside to seal the braid and sometimes, depending on the hose, some on the outside. The uv striking the outside cover has little to do with the integrity of the hose. Most of the time when the outside covering is peeling off the work cycles and movement at that point have made steel braid failures imminent and when it breaks a couple of strands the rubber liner blows out.

I have seen hoses with the rubber out layer rotted off hold up for years with the steel braid exposed.

Some of the John Deere smaller tractors and excavators are rebranded (and painted JD green) Yanmar. If you buy the Yanmar version, they are usually cheaper.
Deere’s small excavators are Hitachi, made in Japan. Deere and Hitachi just dissolved their large excavator joint venture where they made Deere and Hitachi branded machines in the US.

I think he probably knows that, which is why he put "rubber hoses" in quotations...

Go as big as you can afford, and then some. Make sure you have a blade and a thumb.

Oh definitely!

But I'm broke. I had to sell a car and scrounge up every last dime I had to get my skid steer.

I've got a year left to pay on the truck, so maybe I'll start thinking about one after that.

My 10k trailer only wants about 8k on it, so something in that range is what I was thinking.

Go back and read the thread and then read it again. Nowhere did I mention backhoe, My chinese reply was to FrancisJ who was looking at mini excavators and stated he was not interested in anything chinese and would prefer something us made like cat!
Firebrick said cat doesn't make a backhoe in china for the US, to which you replied with that link.

You are wrong, it's OK though.

This is a backhoe thread(cat mostly makes them in the UK for the USA market) , and Francis mentioned both backhoes and mini ex. And your reply is the vaguest statement that I have heard in a while,

"Cat is chinese". That is all you stated

That is it, no clarification at all, so is cat owned by chinese? is all of cats products chinese? Maybe you should use words like "One model of mini excavators, the 307e2 is chinese" See how that doesn't sound like you have a chip on your shoulder because some Cat employee stole your wife or something?

You obviously gave a link that one model of excavator is chinese. Did you link that the mini ex models 303.5, 304, 305, 305.5 and 308 is made in Athens GA? No, of course you didn't!

For people that really care and don't want to just smear indiscriminately, d3, d4, and d5 small dozers are made in Athens GA.

Many of the Skid steers are made in north carolina, road graders in little rock, mining graders, mining trucks, and large wheel loaders in Decatur. Track type tractors in peoria and so on

Well there are 60 large facilities in the USA, with 10's of thousands of employees here. How do you get "cat is chinese" from that?

It definitely is a backhoe thread, my reply was to you and where are you stated you were interested in a mini excavator but nothing Chinese, And you specifically said caterpillar would be an option I was simply pointing out that Caterpillar is building excavators in China for the US market, in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if caterpillar has the most Chinese manufacturing out of any supposed domestic heavy equipment manufacturer. I’m no fan of China, and recently purchased a brand new excavator, I did my homework and settled on Yanmar. My previous machine was a John Deere built by Hitachi and I still have a John Deere backhoe. I spent six months researching the purchase of the mini before pulling the trigger, through that I found a lot of people defending cat and considerate myself as my brother-in-law manages a fleet of them. After hearing of several issues with the newest models I decided those were not an option.

Correct I apologize I got mixed up with Francis Jay who was the original person I replied to and then everyone wanted to pile on and say that I was wrong, Francis posted that he was interested in a mini definitely nothing Chinese like caterpillar. This is why I replied to the previous person saying to go back and reread the thread, unfortunately this has gone off the rails and partially my fault, that’s what I get for trying to look at my phone with older eyes. If people go back to my first reply in this thread they will see who I was replying to and everyone wanted to jump on me stating that I was wrong, it seems I’m the only one who actually posted facts. Firebrick sorry for dragging you into this I apologize. As for the others who stated I was wrong I’ll say it again go back and look at my original comment and what I was replying to.

I've got a John Deere 410. It's super handy. Everything from yard work, digging, pushing or pulling large non running vehicles...

I used it this weekend to lift a pickup bed up and put it back on the truck.
