Help with ID of Drill Press?

Any help with identification of my new (very old) drill press would be greatly appreciated. It is obviously a Delta Rockwell drill press, but the only number that I can find on it anywhere is a tag with the number “5310” on it, and that is all that is legible on the tag. No numbers under the lid. I am guessing late 50’s or early 60’s, but no idea.

It has the production table with several “arc of shame” holes, but all in all – the drill press is pretty clean. Dayton 3-phase 1/2HP motor, Jacobs #33 keyed chuck, Allen-Bradley drum reversing switch, Square D push button On/Off switch mounted on side to a very well made bracket. It was used very little at a book binding company.

I paid $300 for the drill press. Did I do okay? I’ve already purchased a KB #9533 VFD for it. Just getting ready to wire it up. Do away with the current On/Off switch and just run the VFD?

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

No matter what else, if it runs and the runout of the spindle is good, you did very well. Just the "retirement" light is a big plus.

That big table is a very useful. You will never regret having it, until you have to move the unit around!

Show your photos over on Old Woodworking Machines and I'll bet someone identifies it right away. It is certainly an industrial model.

15" Delta, probably the older utility model, 2 spline drive. The production table is a rarity.

Thanks, not familiar with "utility model, 2 spline drive". Will it work as a normal 1/2" drill press?

Looks identical to my Delta Rockwell 15in DP500, except for the added electrical box, the larger table, and the rack and crank for raising the table.

You're going to love the big table and quill lock, but I don't know how folks clamp down to those tables - I'd want T slots or a grid of threaded holes.
The reversible drum switch would be great for power tapping...

You can as you probably know, set up the VFD for reversing. Might even be able to tie the drum switch into the VFD.

With a big, heavy vise, bolting it down becomes a non issue. I have a Cardinal 6B on my DP600 with a production table, and haven't missed the ability the bolt it down one single time.
