Now, when we're working a big messy table over together I'll throw good or interesting chrome stuff his way and he'll throw all the good non shiny stuff my way.

Incidentally, I've been less afraid of rust and "patina" since I got a jug of evaporust and my electrolysis bath set up. Really brings the life back into tools that were otherwise destined for the scrap pile and it feels great to use them when you're done.

Yes a lot like these:
Correct. Same era but differen manufacuture. The Snappy ones are more common than the Hindsdale sets but there are some really uncommon Snappy sets with cantilever boxes. They were very expensive, especially during the depression era and most folks didnt buy them.

To the NJ contingent, is the Berlin Farmers market still in business? Worked there as a summer job while in high school. Place wasn't exactly the Taj Mahal many decades ago,

Still kicking and as much of a sh*thole as you remember. But, you know, in a charming way

Does this match your nice S-K box? Yours is likely pre or very early WW2. The plastic handled adjustables sell for a surprising amount on eBay.

I’ve got one of those! Just have to clean it up, like I did for its 19” brudder.
These have steel handles, though.

My dad and I picked up this Shopsmith 10ER with a fair amount of accessories Wednesday for $100. According to a serial number chart it was made in 1952. Also there was a Craftsman 113.228160 wood lathe with motor for another $25. It was missing the rear foot so I had to order one off ebay for $20.

Getting caught up on taking photos of the acquisitions from last week...getting them cleaned is another story though!

Here's a flea market batch, Plomb 5467 1/2" breaker, P&C 6211 rat, 2514 DBE, and an interesting little BS/W combo. Then a Bog 202 rat, a couple of Wright combos, a Wizard t handle, and SK Wayne combo that I'm glad I picked up from this vendor as it turned out to be a missing piece from a set that I'd buy a week later! Can't remember how much this batch was but I think around $15 or so.
IMG_4240.jpg

Another set of flea market finds, SK Lectrolite C-30 combo, a few Challenger combos I need for a set, Barcalo DBE, and a set of SK Wayne combos in a holder. I got the SK Wayne stuff from the same vendor as the little 7/16 combo in the pic above, pretty much just luck that I grabbed the single one week and the rest of the set the next! They don't all fit in the holder so it's clearly not original. The rest is a beat up Craftsman DBE, Indestro 1/2" extension, and Bonney 1028S DBE. Again I think I'm about $15 into this pile.
IMG_4242.jpg

Another flea market batch...Yet another 5467 Plomb breaker, also 1140, 1143 (5?) DBEs, 1224 and 1214 combos, WF-20 hinge, and 5347 socket. Then a Williams 4731A DBE, Long C 1/4" hinge, New Britain extension, and Mustang 1/2" t handle. This stuff came from my "Plomb guy" and so I paid a little more than usual, $23 if I remember correctly.
IMG_4241.jpg

Last flea market find from last week, I paid $8 for this little box of sockets for the Long C and SK 1/4" stuff, the rest is goodwill fodder although I might hold onto the unmarked stuff with the knurling depending on how it cleans up.
IMG_4243.jpg

This stuff came from an estate sale vendor that used to be one of my favorites until they got a "tool guy" and all their prices went through the roof. I've been avoiding their sales since then, but this one was close by and advertised as a "picker sale" so I gave it a shot. The Wright box has a few of the sockets but none of the other pieces, then there's an SK Wayne combo, VLChek WBE 2628, New Britain combo, Eclipse DBE, a Berylco socket, and a random socket tray. When I priced out I was holding my breath a bit, but it was towards the end of the sale and the guy clearly just wanted stuff gone, $6 seemed fair.
IMG_4244.jpg

Lastly, drove about 1/2 hour north for a sale and when I got there I'd already been to the house for a previous sale! Hate that! Luckily they had opened the rest of the house and dug a few more tools out so it wasn't a complete bust. Along with this stuff I got a bunch of fishing gear and a Schrade knife but I didn't bother to take pics. The crown top organizer was $9, the Bailey 5 was 6 (busted rear tote), and the Wiss snips were $2. The organizer is pretty well stuffed and there is a Starrett mic, quite a few small taps, and a few other pieces. I'm planning to use this to start getting better organized with my small sockets.

Ohh, does that laminated ratchet have a spring in the middle? I assume just a length of spring steel for tension.

I have what from this distance appears to be it brother, but with no spring to hold the direction lever in position. Any clues so I can fab a new one would be appreciated. I’ve got the ratchet and sockets, so they could be sold together if I get it working.

Thanks.

This one doesn't have the spring either...not sure if that's how they were made or if it's just a design flaw that resulted in the springs breaking a lot. You have to push on the lever to get the pawl to engage. That being said I'm happy to mail it to you if you want, just PM me. It's going to goodwill otherwise.

Thanks but no, one dead one is bad enough. Thanks for looking. Suspect it may have jumped out vs broken, as an option.

I went to a sale this morning which was listed on CL as tool heavy. Went and there wasn't one tool. Lady said she couldn't find them. A nice gentlemen there overheard me and said there was another sale nearby with a ton of tools priced very cheap. Off I went and he was more than correct. I went right to the shed and found a Craftsman 506-51810 vise in beautiful condition. I went out and asked how much considering I had to get if unbolted from the bench. Lady said make an offer and she took my $10 offer. I then hit the basement and found a Columbian wodworkers vise and a few other odds and ends.
All told $15 for everything.

Cman No. 506-51810 vise, Columbian 6CDM2-1, Colbert mini vise, cman tin case, USA made saw blades, blue point brake spoon, cman t-handle, unknown mini screwdriver, cman midget wrench set, kd no 444 snap ring set, KASTAR no 181 ignition wrench set, Petersen Dewitt vise grips (thin jaw, no model #), unknown chisel

Nice save, and a friendly tip from the other guy.
That’s a neat reverse-color-scheme Heritage badge on the box.
IDK the mfg of the mini screwdriver. Wood handle? I have a couple that are not green. They resemble what Disston marketed as “Electric” screwdrivers, and GJers have been calling “beehive,” but not that small. I have suspected that Stanley may have been involved, based on some of their tool handles.

:+1: on suckage for Nobaobyman. - I like the beehive mini driver - I sort of collect those - Never seen one painted, so I'm thinking owner painted.

Not too bad a day I went to an annual sale I always seem to do well at and it was no exception today. (oldest daughter came with this time adn also did well) Most everything came from there... Not picture (cause I got lazy) a California flag in nice shape. - $5

I had to convince the main guy to let me cherry pick two wrenches from a couple of boxes marked "$*** all" He hemmed adn hawed but finally relented. no steal but $10 got both wrenches (Plvmb DBE and an unmarked pipe wrench) and an old tire repair kit, (still with stuff inside, I have not inventoried)

tire Kit, Pipe wrench, Plvmb.jpg

The $1 Table was good: (Again, $10 for all so a little discount)

Craftsman Keyhole saw and SBE, Wizard Combo Spare tile lock with keys, and a keychain with mini electricians pliers...

Key chain Wheel Lock, cM SBE wizad Combo CM Keyhole saw.jpg

A small Creel, old Oil bottle top, 3 old early sockets, most of an old jewelers saw, Stanley No. 18 Bevel square, Worth Perfect Handle driver

Creel Iol Top Ol Scokets, WorthStanleyJ. Saw.jpg

$3 for this finger jointed redwood box - planning this to become a camping utensil box.

Box.jpg

At a different sale, some Xmas ornaments for a buck:

Ornaments.jpg

From another, for Free, a small Prop tank, and I think its full:

Prop Tank.jpg

Then after I got home, I went back out to the place from last night and got the two glass oil bottles ($5 both) I had passed on since no tops - so one will have a top, (see above) and I'll need to see if I can find another top next weekend at the big "Town wide" antique sale. (this is typically my big event for the year)

Soaking the crud:

Went to only 2 sales today and one was a dud while the other fruitful. Fruitful sale was at the house of a former skilled trades guy at a local chemical factory, guess the guy had been both a plant electrician as well as millwright there at one time. I actually worked for the same company years ago. Sale started today but he said he had people contacting him early since he posted on FB like on Monday so come to find out he ended up selling a bunch of stuff on Friday when in reality the sale was supposed to start Saturday. Man I hate that but it is what it is and can't blame the guy for getting rid of stuff early when folks are that hot for stuff. I just need to keep that in mind when dealing with sales posted on FB. Anyhow still was a lot left to peruse.

Craftsman 3/8" flex-head ratchet with a hard handle, never knew they existed. Bunch of William's B-52 ratchets along with some repair kits. S-K 3/8 Stubby Ratchet and 1/4" flex-head Craftsman ratchet that I didn't realize was not USA made but regardless a pretty nice ratchet.

Craftsman reversible ratcheting SAE wrench set but I think missing the 11/16, USA made.

Proto punch and chisel set along with a drift pin set missing a couple.

May go back tomorrow and see if I can find any stragglers

I see we're hitting the same ones again. Were you the one that cleaned out the red Kennedy box before I got there?

Yes that was the sale. The red Kennedy stack had most of the mechanic type tools and I picked most of my stuff out of it but the seller said it had been picked pretty good on Friday also so who knows what I missed. Given that the guy worked in a chemical plant I doubt I missed any significant amount of tool truck brands, those heavy duty factory guys typically have the industrial brand stuff such as Proto, William's, Armstrong, Klein, etc.

Nice score on the William's punch set...........looks almost brand new (y)

Looks like you guys did quite well this week! This is a  worthy page, too many good finds.

NYBODYMAN- nice deal. What’s in the Craftsman box?

Saukit- nice find on the Bog

Outlaw- interesting pipe wrench. I hope there is some info on It. I did the same with a dirty, cloudy old oil bottle. Soaked in dish soap, and eventually swirled some paper towels around with something to clean out the bottom. Came out nice.

Flyer-nice Williams haul. Repair kits aren’t easy to find.

Contemplated going out today but didn’t.

So today was a City Wide garage sale in the next town north, home of @PacificaVette . It’s an interesting city, sometime back around 1960, 7 little towns, each isolated by being in a canyon like area, joined up to become one city, connected by Highway One. As you move from area to area, you have to jump out on Hwy 1, then go back inland.

So today started out with the official map, but our first stop was a hoarder’s house at the far north, who is moving to AZ. They’d already taken out 16 1 ton van and trailer loads down there. Found a few interesting goodies, then as I was leaving a side room, I saw a vise hiding behind a stack of totes full of moving blankets. Asked about it, he wanted more than I was willing, I countered at 40%, and he accepted. He hadn’t planned on selling, but had a 4” Chinese in the downstairs room, and a 5” rotating Olympia outside already sold. Took a few minutes to get it off, as they had a mix of hex, square nuts and carriage bolts. It’s a Craftsman 51871, so 40# of goodness, 5-1/2” jaws.

Here's the rest of the haul, 2 truck mirror brackets to be repurposed to Halogen light handles, 2x Jorgensen 3712 clamps, Stanley 1-3/4" blade and lever cap, bushing punch?, key blanks, DuroChrome DOE, 3 chisels, Starrett Extendable divider, Brown and Sharpe Std Wire Gauge,

PXL_20220820_235434371-X2.jpg

The next few stops were targeted around the N-S movement, focused on those listing tools. Tried to loop thru the highest density of tools, scored a few boxes w tools in them, and 11 squares of garage floor cushioning. The orange box, and some of the goodies I started to pull out, including Barcalo, Plomb, Thorsen, Williams, Proto, Par-X, Diamalloy, before he told me take the whole box for $3. The Indestro box for $2 wasn't bad, pleased to see some original paint to try to match inside. The excess orange stuff will go out at my garage sale.

PXL_20220820_234619697-X2.jpg

PXL_20220820_230159271-X2.jpg

Cigar box for $2, needs veneer repair, casters for $2, bolts from the vise, spinner, new Hyde knives, a nail nipper with Bernard heritage, adn Klein wire strippers.

_20220820_232933246_exported_1204_1661052288288-X2.jpg

The next big grab was at the inland end of the southernmost loop, from a couple prepping to move north to Portland to be near their adult child. Some fun stuff in the driveway, but nothing I needed. Almost fell for a Meteor ignition wrench set, til I saw the name. They Also said anything in the garage with a price tag was fair game as well. Saw nothing I needed, but there was a monster red vise on the bench, with a replaced handle made of pipe. After a few minutes of hemming and hawing, I accepted their price, and made plans to get it out. His son had reserved some of the tools, but his 1/2” set didn’t have any extensions with it. So he grabbed an 18” off the sale table, which almost hit the bottom of the cabinet. My biggest traveling socket was a 3/4”, and we needed a 15/16”, so we were stuck using his. I tried to separate the dynamic, it pulled to the end of the travel, but I couldn’t get a grip to break it free, or push it back in. So we pulled it off with dynamic right on the edge of falling out. Told him I was worried about carrying the weight to the truck. He said I carried it here, it’s only about 75#, but I was a lot younger. So we carefully extracted it, I carried it to the truck, tied it down, and went on our way. BTW, it’s 125#, Reed 106, with 1912 patent date, and the meatball in front

L_20220820_231341480_exported_867_1661041296913-X2.jpg

The final stop of interest had a bunch of pricey stuff on top of the tables, but a box of old dirty stuff under the table. First grab was a Herbrand 1/2” ratchet, so I dug in deeper. Spent about 10 minutes digging while the sellers ignored me. Don’t know how much they moved, but I was happy. Left some imported stuff and modern OK stuff. On top of the tables was expensive electrician stuff. Dirty pile of tools, DI on left, Stlllson wrench by Howorth, Standard 4" clamp, NAPA, Armstrong, SK and Craftsman Sockets, 2 P&C deeps, Herbrand ratchet, 2x Corona clippers.

L_20220820_233629068_exported_200_1661041368553-X2.jpg

All in all a good day on Value for the price.
