Started my ammo can propane heater. Im building this one for about 50 bux. Amazon wanted 200 for their overland er ammo can heater.
Good use for one that is far gone and cheap. I think I'd be thinking about a rocket stove version however. I'm trying to get away from any propane for camping.

I want to build a rocket stove down the road. I went with propane because its one of only things you can burn out here in the forest... Cant have a wood burning camp fire... the fire threat is toooooo dangerous. Figured I could get away with having a propane fire if im out in the forest.

Finally got around to welding the bracket back onto the mower deck with the mulching blades. Only been a few months!

Not the prettiest weld, honestly. My brother is a union welder. Me? Not so much. But it held well enough that I mowed my 2 acres and it’s still together.

Also, I’m an idiot. When I bought the helmet a few years back, I lamented that I could not see through it very well. Today while cleaning it before I used it (sat unused for 2 years), the protective film came off the glass. Crystal effing clear. Yeah….

Those look great Kay!

Niget the bikes look sharp.

I stopped to grab dinner, but I've been working on the hitch off and on since noon. Almost there I need to cut and weld 2 braces (insurance..) and paint/mount. I want to finish the fabbing tonight before the rain comes in... So for the first time in years, i'll be working under a lantern...

Ran the pressure washer, starting it was difficult; had to resort to a slug of ether and draining the carburator. Doped up the gas in the tank with Stable, for some reason i am having trouble remembering the accepted spelling of some things.

Replaced a V-Belt on my Craftsman Lawn Edger. Snapped while doing yard work last week.

Started repairing an extension cord that had a slight run-in with a hedge trimmer.

They say that happens as you get on. I've been living with brain skips for 50 years. Funny thing is, that even on no-talk, no-write, no-type days, I can still gesture type, a skill I picked up about a decade ago, when I got my first Android tablet.

Man, i fell flat on my face this AM before dark, chasing a couple things I'd forgotten to get in out of the rain.... Caught my left foot on an unseen stick and went full length and the left eye area slammed the ground... Stunned me for a sec, then had vertigo trying to stand up; it took several tries! Got things done and other than a small scratch on the right side of my nose. just had dirt on my face. No black eye - yet...

Sounds like you might have gotten a slight concussion, glad it wasn’t worse. Take it easy for a while, and obviously don’t do anything that shakes your brain for a while.

And pay attention to any changes in vision. My wife had a similar fall years ago and broke the eye socket bone. Had to have surgery or she might have gone blind in that eye.

Didn't get around to hanging the grill guard until today. Turned out the mounting brackets were an interference fit with the much beefier Reese front hitch mount. So I had to figure a few things out. And remove the front hitch and brackets to figure what I could do to make it work. And I have yet to test-fit my hitch-carrier-mounted vehicle winch, but I'm expecting I'll have to get the carrier modified. It was already close fitting to the bumper. So don't think it will fit now.
Also had to remove my factory recovery hooks, had thought I could swap sides to solve a hook clearance issue, but it turns out their central bolt placement in the bottom of the frame ends isn't exactly central after all. So I have to craft a new hook solution, new winch solution. But I went ahead and mounted the grill guard anyway. I figure I'll want / need it before the hooks and winch, anyway.

Last truck had a bed step.

New truck didn't come with one.

Now new truck has a bed step. I bought a part off of Amazon instead of OEM. It feels a tad looser as far as how hard it is to close. I think it will be fine.

Really looking forward to using this truck on our next camping trip next month.

Painted the hitch and installed it, I still need to reinstall the tail lights but its raining now... I also need to find my drop hitch, and move/light the licence plate.

But you can see the differnce - before:
HitchBefore.jpg

After
Hitch after.jpg

All the twist in the old heavy tow bar is right at where the bolt on receiver is:

bend.jpg

The original tow bar is 3/8 X 2-1/4" and there is about 1/10 of an inch of twist to it between the diagonal struts. those are in an "X" to the bar, and did their job for basically static loads for 8 years and many thousands of towed miles. What did it in was my cargo box, and a dirt road full of potholes on the last dirt road trip...

I even tried straightening it using a gad in the receiver and a floor jack. didn't budge...

I pulled the welder out and proceeded to weld on the fence project all day. The new welding helmet I received as a birthday gift works fantastic!

More small chores. noticed a couple days ago our front corner palm tree was drooping onto the neighbor's car in their driveway so did some pruning while they were away. Was taking a break, texting with the missus when the supervisor showed up and I had to get back to work.

Got my grill guard installation mess cleaned up and preparing to start making furniture again. Next up are kitchen island face shelving and a large dining hutch. Both will be black with dark/rich wood beadboard backing. And probably a butcher-block wood counter in the hutch, similarly stained.
pics are couple design inspirations, I'll wind up blending various features from them all. I already have a very tall base molding and a thick P- / chair rail sort of piece as a crown molding. And the pic with the old map on the wall was just a quick photochop idea exploration.

so far: Reassembled the taillight (had to come out for the hitch install) put fab tools away, put other stuff away, started planning for the new location for the licence plate. Ordered LED lights for it.
