Ran some 1" .120 wall tubing through the milling machine to make some more holders for my welding clamps.

Got them mounted on the 'tool side' of my materials cart and now mostly have a row for each clamp type. I'll have to make a couple more.

On a side note, I really like these Breman clamps from Harbor Freight. They are basically the same clamp as the Milwaukee at half the price. I like the 1/4" square detente in the tightening screw slightly more than the loop on the Milwaukee clamps.

Managed to spend more than 1 minute out there without sweating like someone had thrown a 5gal bucket of water at me.
Noticed a very faint smell of gasoline, checked all the vehicles, no gas smell from them at all.... Odd..

I rebuilt a cylinder for Dad's old skid loader and headed over to his place. We reinstalled the cylinder, loaded my new to me air compressor, and headed home. Happy to finally have an stationary 'real' air compressor for the shop! Now, I need to build a raised platform for it.

Don't forget to install an auto drain on it. Or a foot pedal that says Stomp Daily.

Put a coat of paint on this old stool. I previously reglued the loose joints, doweled and glued the broken seat pieces back together, and replaced the wire that helps keep the legs from pulling out.

That's awesome 👍. You may have a special reason for having that stool that we don't know. Totally understand if you do.
But can we GJ members please chip in and get him a new stool?

I really like that stool. Brings back memories of a time when I didn't know stools came any other way! No newer than the 60's.

Yeah, there’s a story. It’s an old stool. Could just buy a new one for a few bucks.

But, it’s from my beach cottage. It was my grandparents’, likely my grandfather recycled it from somewhere else. My mother remembers it being green, but it’s been black for as far back as I can remember. There is (was) a yellow vinyl seat top, over some burlap padding. The vinyl split years ago.

It‘s a temporary ladder for reaching things, a footstool at times, and a kitchen counter barstool for meals. For some reason I cannot fathom, it is SWMBO’s preferred barstool for eating, she likes it better than the others.

It survived Sandy.

The years and abuse have taken their toll, no doubt. Every joint was loose. The wire thing on the bottom broke. The seat was split twice, was nailed back together.

I’m not trying for a beautiful restoration here. I didn’t spend hours repairing the dings and scrapes. Some Gorilla Glue and some dowels took care of the loose joints and split wood. A couple of coat hangers were sacrificed to replace the wire thing. A little black Rustoleum and it’ll probably outlive me, unless some jerk steals it. I have some marine vinyl on order from Amazon to replace the seat cover.

That stool has some history. 👍

Admittedly, I haven’t been IN the garage for a minute. So today, I pushed out the 72 and decided to pressure wash the floor. Couldn’t get it ALL, as I left a bunch of stuff in there, but got enough that I don’t feel filthy when crawling under a car. I may go the extra step this weekend and pull EVERYTHING out. 1F59F510-4A3E-4824-88CA-6192326D6C42.jpeg

Sprayed some water just to see…14F843A2-D8D9-4675-8165-4FBBEE757661.jpeg

No after pics, as it got late and I had to push the truck back in. But I was able to hang some more of my plates, and more importantly, my grampas old shop signs. I may play around with placement, but I just wanted them off a horizontal surface so they don’t get broken. 669EDDE0-E8BC-4ED4-893E-09BD3892811E.jpeg

And since I pushed the truck out, I was able to get to one of my spare boxes. It’s all my extra “extras” of craftsman tools. I got tired of walking from the pole barn lol o the garage for a wrench or 2, since the pole barn is where I work on the mowers mostly. There is only this small table (for now). AA9DA10E-E7B3-4795-8257-192BB326F305.jpeg

So I cleared it off, and now have a spot for a tool box and a spot to work on something small. 75919897-9F5B-4D0B-988C-B1436B8C4912.jpeg

All this started because my rubbish bin FINALLY showed up. As much dump runs as I’ve made, I can only store so much trash around here. Having weekly trash service now, should help keep things clean(er). Even though now that I’m remodeling the house, I’ll be making dump runs every Saturday I’m not working…

Good idea! 👍😁 I will have to come up with some type of drain, but first I need to fabricate the platform it is going to reside on. One more upright for my pallet rack would make it an easy solution. The tricky part is finding one locally for sale.

Removed the wiper door vacuum relay on the Corvette. It's mounted on the wheel skirt and not really easy to get to. I did get it off but broke one of the mounting screws in the process. So now I have to get the remnant of the old sheet metal screw out of the wheel skirt before installing the replacement.

This one works and is cheap enough. Though, if you do a lot of blasting or extended sanding sessions, I'd recommend changing the plastic lines to metal.

Now's your chance to move it to a better location. Then you can leave the screw.

I have welded up cracks on a few of the Corvette vacuum cannisters. Seems they flex a lot and tend to crack along the ribs.

So over the weekend I was mowing the lawn with the lawn tractor and the blade drive belt broke. I ran to TSC and got a replacement.

Last night I decided to drop the mower deck, give the mower deck a cleaning and a once over before replacing the belt. The deck has been making a howling noise for a while so I figured it was time to investigate the source of the noise. While pulling the deck I managed to break one of the plastic trunions that are part of the height-of-cut adjustment. Bad words were said!

Went and checked the internet - it's a $10 part. None of the usual sources have that item in stock and Amazon is saying Early/Mid October delivery. I ordered one from Amazon and another from Jack's Small engines. They both will probably arrive in December! I did call the local guy and they don't stock the part, but they could see that a shop 150 miles away in PA has one in stock - but that's too far to go for a $10 part.

On a separate invoice I ordered blades, bearings and a replacement spindle. The left side blade is binding a little and the pully "wobbles" as I spin the blade. I'm guessing the spindle is bent. If it's not that it's the pully itself that is bent. These parts will allow me to refurbish the deck while waiting for a replacement trunion to arrive. If I get the deck done and no trunion has arrived, I will look at cobbling up something to get it back in service temporarily.

So in a nutshell . . . I turned a simple 30 minute job (replacing the deck drive belt) into a multi-week wait for parts that I wouldn't have needed if I had done the bare minimum to get the mower back into service.

Here's your sign! (the one on the right)

Unclogged the drain for the ac that's above the garage.

Then I replaced the florescent light in the garage with a led one. Got tired of replacing 4 bulbs every year.

Huge progress with the detached build and one more step towards being insulation ready... ran 4-line tactical-grade fiber and 2x CAT-6 ethernet lines from the detached's future server rack location to the existing server rack in the house. Next time I'll definitely rent a ditch witch versus digging with a shovel.

Drilled the house foundation block, up into the walls... and miraculously everything worked when tested!

Mucked up the good side of my free MDF that I was planning to use as a drill press table. Since it was free I just flipped it over and tried again. It's functional but not quite how I'd like it, but we're going to see how it functions for the time being. Ordered some t-bolts (the screw heads sat just a little bit proud in the track making 1/4-20 Hex bolts not quite suitable) and some hold downs to set up a jig for drilling the holes in my aluminum angle for the hardware case storage cabinets. Perfection, I am afraid, will never be reached in my shop. I'll snap a few pics tomorrow of the finished product.

Thanks! Heck you can't beat that price. I'll have to get one for my unit. I had no idea they were this affordable! 👍😁

A neighbour brought down a junk Weber BBQ that had a tank weigh scale attached on the underside. I've been looking at it from a distance, wondering what it was. After finding it on line, I figured it out. Made an adaptor to fit it to our BBQ. It was never used as it still had the locking wire installed, you can see it stored behind the locking clamp, pic #1

the newer Webers have an electronic version of that, if the one you installed is in good shape, it works pretty well, sometimes the spring gets old and it becomes useless.

Probably the case for a lot of them. As mentioned, mine was unused and I thought it was broken because it did not move. Research showed a locking wire to secure it until ready to use. With that removed and a shot of garage door lub. it does function as new. Am guessing that Weber is fifteen years old+ and the previous owners never knew what is was either.

spent the last few days steadily unpacking and culling packing boxes from the 3rd stall in the garage. Making a huge dent. I'll never get rid of all of it, but real happy with progress so far. About 15 boxes struck, got 3 boxes of clothes and shoes ready to go donate, got thru a lot of old business and financial records. Didn't have time in our COVID-induced selloff and moves to do this work and only getting to it now as we approach our 2nd anniversary in this house.

Gearing up to start building furniture again, starting in a few days.

Hung up some corn stalks and Glass Gem corn ears to dry for fall decorations.

Cut down a free plastic pallet from work. One end was busted but I needed a 27"x27" raised platform for something, so I cut it down to suit my need.

Snapped a pic of the drill press table that I completed last night (still needs trim to cover up the botched attempt on the "good" side of the MDF). I also started on my air supply project with a few 1/2" pipe bits and pieces. Eventually I'm going to run a pipe up to the ceiling, across to the double bay, where I'll t-off to the bench at the back, a central reel in between bays 2/3, and shoot a longer run towards the front, on the east side of Bay 2, by the welding area. One drop, not sure which one, will get a cooler/dryer for painting, but I haven't specifically figured on where that will be just yet. The goal is to put the boat on a moveable cradle in the middle bay, woodshop in the far west Bay, and the car in the single side. The single only has an 8' door so I'm a little bit nervous of SWMBO getting in and out ok in that amount of space, so we shall see. Bay 1 (east) may end up as a very small wood shop for the winter.

what Jeffrey said. My old Weber had that and it worked well. My new Weber has the tank inside the enclosed compartment and I am not sure if there is a scale or not.
