It would only be controversial, and better said, off-putting, if that had been your first post and you never showed up again. We get too many fly-by's who make no genuine contribution only looking for quick information.
Collectible vintage tool values depend on rarity, demand, and condition. Lots of sellers, especially on eBait, neglect the second. Your R&P stubby has enough of the first, not much of the second, and none of the third. Different story if it was a Blue-Point, its ferrule wasn't missing, and the finish and markings were intact, just for contrast. That's not to say there's no market for lesser known or obscure brands, including R&P. I bet there are a few guys out there who have a little R&P collection going. They made Craftsman screwdrivers with composite handles and those are fairly popular. I wouldn't mind having it, frankly, and if it had the ferrule, and more of the finish and the handle markings were intact, I might even say, "Hey, put that in a future trade pile for me when we have enough tools to make the shipping worthwhile," and I would expect you to expect something around $10-15 or so in value in return from me for that, which you will see happen around here if you stick around long enough. As is, though, it's probably not worth more than its value as a user, which would be a buck or two at a flea market.
I'll add this. Newbies sometimes get the wrong idea about the passion around here. The degree to which we can go on and on about something, digging up period ads, and providing all kinds of esoteric information, has no correlation to its monetary value.
And close with this. I don't shop on eBait. But I do use the Advanced Search, with the "[ ] Sold Listings" button checked. It will provide a fairly accurate assessment, over time, of going rates.
