Actually the proper industry term is EVSE, (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment). The fact of the matter is that none of the residential units are "chargers". They all output the same AC source that is input to them. They are strictly an intelligent, to some level, interface box. Note that Tesla calls their units "mobile connector" or "wall connector". Really a better descriptive term. No EV car maker is going to let some third party system actually "charge" a $20k battery. All is done via the vehicles internal Battery Management System, or BMS. DC chargers such as Electrify America and Tesla SuperChargers are a whole different animal and there are industry protocols in place to properly charge from them. They truly are chargers.
yup. people need to stop calling the residential receptacle "chargers". all they are is a receptacle. actual charger lives on-board on the vehicle

And yet you know exactly what is meant when someone talks about an EV charger... Same goes for the brick that "charges" your laptop or phone.

I bet most people have no idea that many gas stations don't have pumps in the dispensers, but no one gets corrected when they say they are standing at the pump getting pissed at the ads yelling at them...

People are dumb and use the word charger because that's a colloquial term the EVSE. Good luck getting society to change on it.

As they say; technically correct is the worst kind of correct.

I’m afraid that the receptacle for plugging in a EV will always be called a charger. Even though it’s incorrect. Just like hot water heater, ATM machine….

Just some food for thought IF your local jurisdiction will require permits for this.... maybe get permits.

Here the jurisdiction have noted how many plug-in vehicles have been sold and how the number of permits for adding 240V chargers is only a very small percentage of the number of active vehicles.

Now some people may be charging on a standard 120V outlet or only at stations.... but regardless it has been noticed and at some point I expect some sort of action.

Tata was testing an air powered car for India a while ago, but it died on the vine

I remember years ago some American University developed an air powered car, more like a go cart, but it was able to get like 200 miles per gallon. Like a lawnmower engine ran a compressor which powered the wheels. I remember seeing it on tv after Saturday morning cartoons, but can't find it online.
