It’s that time of the week for me to go find opportunities. Found a really good estate s
le that had more tools than anything. Highlights are: (for me anyway).
1/2” Williams Superratchet $5
Older Snap On 1/4” ratchet $8 (a little high)
Cleveland Ohio drill index $4
Craftsman screwdrivers for my daughter $1 ea
Really cool Sheffield wood handle ratcheting screwdriver $1
1/4” drive set with a surprise hidden in it $3
Diamalloy crescents (I love) $2
Vintage ice pick $1
SK and SK Wayne sockets $1ea
Indestro 1/2” ratchet $3
Off course I always grab quality ball peins when available $7 for all
Mac 1/2” wrench $1
Underline Craftsman 3/8” ext. $1B8DDBC4D-AE09-4AA4-AF40-3C450184D89C.jpegF1718CDB-8A77-4733-8E6F-476FC5BE1A38.jpeg

It's interesting how a random post will tickle a reader in some way who then responds with a related (or frequently a completely UN-related) comment that starts a tangential landslide. So, before the herd vanishes down this particular home decor path, I just want to make sure everyone took note that Picker of the Year selection is coming up and to start thinking about who is most deserving of your vote.

That said, I'll report that I went to an ES yesterday and another today. Both were abject failures. First was decades of cheap tools and equipment, used and abused and then left to rust after they broke or wore out. Nothing was thrown out. For example they had about three dozen broken axe and pick handles stacked up in a shed. The worn out axe and pick heads were piled elsewhere with so much rust and broken snags that I began to wonder if my tetanus shot was up to date. There were several frozen and rusted electric motors. There were a whole lot of mechanic and blacksmithing tools but everything, to me, was worthless.

Today's sale showed a full Craftsman stack but it only had a dozen cheap tools in it.

You can't hit it big every time. :dunno:

The fact your house looks to be meticulously maintained, I’m sure the neighbor’s aren’t bothered by the sign.
Thanks. Would that it were always in such good photo condition! :)
Are the G503's behind the fence sir ?
HAHA! The "motor pool" is in the garage at the back of the property.
Really cool Sheffield wood handle ratcheting screwdriver
I'm not seeing this in the photo. Does the tool next to the midget box have a wooden handle?
1/4” drive set with a surprise hidden in it
What's the surprise? If it's visible, I'm missing it.

Yeah, the ratcheting screwdriver next to the box is almost a laminated wood looking, Sheffield. The surprise I found was a sweet little Snap On ratchet mixed in with the rest of the cheap tools. I was pleased anyway.

That Sheffield tool is probably a recent Chinese import, sold here in Calif by OSH in pre pandemic times.

They also had new Chinese made Millers Falls stuff one bin over

The Sheffields were available at Home Depot a few years back. I have a set because I liked the look of the Cocobolo/Rosewood handles. Sadly they become slippery with any sweat, body or motor oils, etc. But a nice display piece.

As I always say, if I'm only going to bring one thing home from the flea, it had better be a good one, and this 16 oz ball-pein hammer, made by Vlchek in the 40's, and the spec-correct first of two hammers (the other being Fairmount) that Willys-Overland issued to their MB jeep toolkits, certainly meets that requirement! I've found a few over the years, but this is the first I have seen in a long time.

Oh, yeah, and Let's Gooooo Phightin' Phils!

Checked out some primitive decor sales a week or two ago and actually found some interesting stuff. Left the clown photos, spray painted farm tools, and gutted radio cabinets behind but got these two lots.

Here's the pipe wrenches.
Olympia Power Grip set, didn't know they were orange when I seen them.
Dunlap 10 inch and Proto 14 inch

PXL_20220926_152936116.jpg
Iron City 10lb and a 14lb with the stamping worn off plus a coal pick with no visible stamp but a few numbers barely visible on the side.

PXL_20220926_153312295.jpg
Dunlap and Reed pipe vise's

PXL_20220926_153556022.jpg
Mystery tool, Allen socket is in the jaws to show it open. Think it might be a spring compressor but I have no clue. Handle goes forward and puts pressure on whatever is in the half circle jaws. Also no markings. Also Kingshead fabric shears, missing the nut but still in fair enough condition.

(Pic wouldn't upload, refer to vise pic. Tractor wrench is to the right by the pliers)
Another mystery tool, some type of tractor wrench probably. 1-1/4 male hex to 1-3/8 female, only marking is made in USA.

This lot was $13 bucks.

Second lot

PXL_20221007_205446842.jpg
Another mystery tool, looks to be some type of screw type wire tensioner tool, with no markings
Rigid telescopic basin wrench
No name needle nose pliers
Cornwell 9/16 offset wrench
Barcalo 7/8-25/32 doe wrench
McRaig Hatch Pliers
Cee Tee Co. pliers
SA2126 wrench
No name drop forged pliers
1893 marked odd pattern wrench
3/4-7/8 M in circle wrench

(Pic wouldn't upload again, coming soon)
Also the best find of the lot, a Snap On F714(palm ratchet). Had some dust and some scratches but internals were like new. Only needed a wipe down with a q-tip and some super lube and it's working like new.

This lot was $8 total.

There was only one sale listed in Tahoe that mentioned tools so we stopped by. I picked up what looked to me like a Craftsman tray with quite a few sockets in it. 54D77030-860B-42AF-8083-54FF841C052A.jpeg

I see Corvair, so that's American (Chevrolet). Before my time, buy Wikipedia says very early 60s to have the Lakewood badge.

Rear engine, I'd have never, ever guessed that...

That's the truth! We get so used to someone posting a suckworthy haul that we sometimes forget that those are pretty unusual for any one person. Also, we don't always post the routine "skunkings". Case in point: I didn't post my stop at the ReStore on last Saturday with my daughter on the way to the auto parts store. She's 25 now and as big a bargain hunter as I am. I came away with nada from the tool section (this ReStore prices tools higher than a pawn shop). My daughter got a handheld electric kitchen mixer for $10.

Some days you're the windshield, but most days, you're the bug

Follow-up to Eagle 1903 safety cabinet from a couple weeks ago.
Extracted broken key with picks and a straightened fish hook.
Including new keys from Amazon - about $10 invested.
Flipped for significant profit.

Nice save! Was Al Capone's treasure still in there?

Picked up my $12.50 (after tax and fees)walker jack from a local estate sale auction this morning. I really lucked out as I was the only bidder. It’s missing the name plate with the serial number but there are some stamped numbers that I’ll need to research to find out exactly what I have.

3 sales today.I'll likely put them in 3 posts with pics. 1st sale was a total TOO as it popped up while walking the dog.Saturdays and Sundays are the days I get to walk Ellie ,and I think we walk a bit farther, but she picks the route and we came across a sale. I'm going to dig a bit deeper into the "Car and Home Emergency Kit" to verify the contents. I spent more at this sale than the other two combined. Also will check back tomorrow as the nice lady will be putting out more stuff, she said. Ratchets from Craftsman,Proto,Wright.

Sale 2 was a few blocks from the sale from yesterday(which is sale #3 for me today) Small plastic toolbox in the garage plus a vintage dresser dig thru yielded these treasures. The sale had a sign $4-Hand Tool unless otherwise marked and nothing was marked so I was hesitant to get a price. Turned out 2 Big Macs without a coupon cost more:) Craftsman =v= sockets in 1/2" ,3/8" and 1/4" drive. No complete sets, 1/2" and 3/8 universals,3/8" to 1/4" adapters, 3" and 6 " extensions, speed wrench,Craftsman tappet wrenches(that were covered in permatex{why is it always permatex or white paint?} )and a NIB Craftsman Taper Jig for a table saw. Ridgid pipe wrench missing a nut,Dunlap DOE,Alltrade screwdriver, feeler guages, unmarked cold chisel, punch marked Machine Specialties Chigaco,Fleet punch ,and partial rolls of electrical tape.
