How did I do? It could use one jaw but really it doesn't affect it but for aesthetics only starreet 925 I gave $75 for it.
I'll put better pictures up when I get home.

Looks like they put a socket head cap screw in to pull the crack together before welding or brazing. Not worth the asking price IMHO in that condition.

It almost looks like they were trying to hide the weld with the pop can.

Guy is asking $3000 for the vise and can’t be bothered to post more than 1 photo. One of my pet peeves with CL ads. Also strategic placement of the can obscuring the repaired slide. :headshake

Jay
Yes. You beat me to it I just posted the same thing. I almost texted him and said nice job trying to hide the weld.

...and the seller would laugh off your $200 offer. rightfully they should. it's still a Prentiss 58, despite the repair. if price dropped to $1k it would be gone.
Yeah well I was just kind of saying I don't know what they're worth I don't have a $1,000 nor do I have $3,000 for a vice.
But I understand I'm sure it would sell for 1,000.
I had no intention of offering 200.

In my opinion he didn't really do that nice of a job restoring it either.
I told my buddy in that condition I'd pay 200.
I restored a Prentiss 58 4 years ago and sold it for 2k. It was in much worse shape then the one you are commenting on. I felt is was worth more then the 2K since it was in great shape after a restoration. It never had jaws because they missed the screw location at the factory. Had a terrible tailsplit and the handle was so wallowed out I had to sleeve it. Tightened the backlash and installed a better collar with a Bronze wear plate. It’s a 58 and needs more respect Then a $200 dollar offer. Just my 2 cents.

Again, I have no intention of offering him $200.00

Compared to yours, the front slide support on the CL 58 also looks funky. Like maybe it was broken/welded, or broken off and replaced with something else.

Good day everyone. A few years back I joined this forum to find out some information about vises and was helped by some very nice and knowledgeable folks. Not being a huge online person I sort of drifted back into my chores and projects. I just wanted to show a picture of the vises I had accumulated. I just listed them today on marketplace (no, you will not like the prices as I set them from eBay) but I am sort of feeling a little nostalgic so I figured I'd share them with them folks who helped feed my addiction, lol. Thank you all for your help and knowledge.

Why are you selling them off? Looks like you did a really nice job!

I have a few that I have accumulated over the years, one I found at a Las Vegas swap meet 30+ years ago (Chinese made but has held up well),an Anthol that was my grandfather's, a couple of Craftsman and a Scout that was my dad's. It may be case of overkill but as they make their way into my collection I prefer to put them to use.

Guess it's just time. Already have a 600S in the garage and these, while I tried to bring them back as well as I could, are taking up shelf space. Been in that "get rid of things I'm not using" mode for a couple months now. Took a while to finally make the decision on these.

I searched this thread and didn't find anything other than sarcastic boat anchor remarks. I did find one other brief thread from 8 years ago that talked about Anchor vises.

Since they don't seem too common (they were only made for about 10 years), here's a pic of my #5 Anchor. I don't know how much it weighs but I had to use a hoist to get it up on the bench.

Interesting, how old are those? The angular design would make me assume it's not that old...

Damn nice job, as always. Mechanically sound, not over-restored, still plenty of character from decades of use.

Do you make and sell jaws for the 925?
