Thanks hoorn. I find fixing these old toolboxes somewhat therapeutic. A good way to work off stress and always fun to see the results!

I picked up this soldering gun at an estate sale last Wednesday. I looked through quite a few Craftsman catalogs until JoCo helped me out, locating it in the ‘57 catalog. I don’t know how I missed it but having a Craftsman expert around is a really good thing.39C5FE2D-BEC8-43AB-9786-E8B5C99EB43D.jpegE0D37A77-AD2A-4D0A-8718-66BCC74762A7.pngE9DB00B9-AEA6-43ED-A619-77CD81DA5B2E.jpeg34E30F27-FA7E-4E35-87DB-F2FAE10D66D5.jpegC9AB0E80-A50C-43DC-B99F-550AF1B02646.jpeg26231C55-1252-4B24-90A3-83EDA30DB1E8.jpegEB8C132B-A28B-474E-96AD-EBDC568817FF.jpeg

There isn't much left of this Heritage decal.

IMG_0112 (4).JPG

I didn't even realize it was a CRAFTSMAN hammer until I got it home.

IMG_0107 (4).JPG

It is small, but very solid; with rivets running all the way through the head and one through the handle as well.

IMG_0110 (4).JPG

I tried to talk myself into leaving it behind; saying, "you already have a rawhide hammer." I'm glad I didn't listen to that voice of reason. I like this one better.

I don't think that's a Heritage badge. I think it's actually a Fulton, which makes it quite a few years older!

Needs some tlc, but couldnt resist er last week. $40. Looks like original casters, handles and all, so definetely had to have it. Lot like one OTG just restored, different badge tho. One pull has screws instead of original rivets, so ill need to find a couple chromies that match. And a lock mech.

Two left-behinds at the flea market today. The gorgeous hammertone blue chest was too much ($75) when I don’t have a place to put it, and the hatchet handle had a very worn Plumb head.

I can’t believe you left those behind but maybe you are running out of space? That 2 drawer isn’t super desirable but it is super tempting because it is so clean. The hatchet handle with the water slide logo mostly intact sure would be tempting just because the logo is pretty nice

It's a respray(handles attached with phillips screws, latch painted), but looks fairly straight and clean. For $75 I probably woulda snatched it regardless but I'm a hoarde...er I mean collector. 😂

Some of the earlier Heritages were inverse colors. No one knows why. Some have guessed that they were maybe some of the earliest Heritages, but there's no real way as of yet to know for sure.

Most likely the 12 piece socket set if I had to guess. (Ignore the badge location these almost never correlate with the catalogs)

I was excited to find this crusty little box yesterday.

1658986995371.jpeg

It's got two of the 9/16" and 3/4" sockets, plus a CHALLENGER 1/2". I'll have to look it up to see how many sockets it came with originally. Seems like a long slot for so few.

EDIT: I like the roundedness of this little box and the grippiness of the raised lines in the lid. I have not even washed it yet, but it seems like one that'd get prettier with use. It's a hefty little ratchet for its size. I just wish they'd ended the raised panels before the **** ends. They looked chopped off as are. I'm happy it came with the little cross bar and this is the first hinge handle I've seen with three dimples. One in the straight position and two more at 45 degrees to that.

I didn’t really want or need this early sander at a Tahoe garage sale today but the seller priced it so low that I couldn’t resist. Although the sander seems to work, I think the box is the coolest part. The handle is offset to compensate for the weight of the sander. 1E2E7807-9D43-432C-B08E-CAA1AEAB1B89.jpeg96A21F28-D2AE-469E-9157-7EB4ED271059.jpeg527609B3-BA04-45A2-A9AF-A0737E345B4F.jpeg

I created this Craftsman circle U tool board to closely resemble the plomb/Proto tool boards available in this ere since Plomb was the vendor for these particular tools. While the Circle u tools where sold between 1944-1948, they don’t appear in known catalogs. Based on this I created this board to display my circle u marked tools next to my other tool boards. I painted the border a heritage era gray and aged the socket rails in vinegar to cut the shine down. We know that these tools came in 3 different finishes- cadmium, plated and non plated so that’s why I have multiple socket rails present. I tools some tools out of sets I had just to show where the tools go but as you can see I still need a lot! If you have some spare circle u tools, please let me know! The last picture shows the layout how it will appear when completed (lots of Plomb placeholder tools shown)
