They say 4 times faster, we will see, draws less too, so should start better in the cold or with a low battery situation.

Been derailed a bit, won’t be to the SG until after noon for sure, oh well, at least I feel like I got some things done, just not what I wanted to.

When i did the starter on my OBS Powerstroke, i used a mutant starter built from a superduty 7.3 mount and a 6.7L PSD starter front half. The unit looks a lot like that bottom one. That thing spins my truck over at about half light speed. Fires off FAST.

Well, this update is even worse, I just got to the SG right now at 2PM, got hijacked by Dad and his truck that still has starting issues. Everyone told him to replace the batteries, nope, well it is the batteries, got him three new ones, but won’t be able to put them in until next week. He doesn’t believe anything anymore, he was second guessing everyone that was involved, when you have a $100k truck and you won’t buy new batteries for $500, something is just wrong. :(

I am going to try and move some dirt while I still have a bit of daylight.

And to answer your question X, I should have stayed in bed.

I got the last big pile of dirt moved with the army dump, now I am going to use some lights and try to spread things out as best I can, we are getting rain tomorrow and it would be nice to have that help with compaction. I am not expecting it to be the best, but for the last minute mad scramble it will be fine, then I have to decide if I am cutting the other side of the parking area, still undecided, I guess it all depends on the weather next week.

No, the gray stuff is new, the gravel from the road was not really nice enough for the area I wanted it for, it will be used way out back to build up the current road that goes around all the storage trailers.

Getting motivated for the road trip.

The gravel was not cheap, with delivery I was probably over $3k. It will be worth it long term, at least the next round should be substantially cheaper, I will probably have about $6k into all the trucking, including removing the road at the tower site, in reality it is still a good deal, but this time of year it always hurts to spend that kind of money before we even get into winter.

No go on the first bucket truck, we are looking at a second one though, I suspect it will be a no go too. At this point he really just needs to see what is out there and figure out what he wants.

We actually looked at two trucks, but both were way too much money and condition was way to bad. At least he got to see the boom/bucket combo and now he knows what he wants, just need to find it now.

I got a late start, I have a couple office things to do, then Chuck needs to be fed, then I am off to the SG to move dirt......

Apparently we had two issues, the starter was bad and the key switch or wiring to the starter solenoid is bad as well. I had to pull the batteries back out to confirm that things do work, just not with my current wiring setup. Awesome, afternoon almost completely wasted and I still don’t have things figured out. I am going to get it inside so that I can mess with it after dark at some point. I have already wasted an hour and a half of daylight and it will take another half an hour to get it inside.

:(

Well, you don't know until you know.....

I get the frustration, but as you know, it's a process.

I'm actually impressed that you rerouted wires instead of jumping to buy a crimper and specialty connectors and burning time that way.... So good job on going the simple route first.

But I'm even more impressed that you guys passed at not just one truck, but two trucks!!! That's the milestone of the year!!

Anyhow, all jesting aside, you're making a lot of progress!

I decided to wait to put the Hyster inside, it is dark now and I didn't want to waste anymore daylight. I got a bunch of dirt moved and prepped, I have more gravel coming on Tuesday, so I want to be ready. I am going to shuffle things inside so I can get the Hyster in, that way I can mess with it regardless of when I get a chance, we are going to have some rain again this week, hopefully I can get all my parts lined up for the repairs.

Wednesday sounds like a washout, decent the rest of the week for December though. I’m tempting fate by not putting plow on tractor

I am probably going to move every trailer and piece of equipment to cut down the slope in the side yard, it will be a lot of work, but it will be nice not to have all the extra large puddles in the middle of the yard.

You should do this in the summer months. Then when winter comes, you’re not running around in a bunch of unnecessary directions.

Yup.

I have been searching for my weatherpack connector kit and tools, it has evaporated, I spent another 20 minutes at the Hill looking, again. I think it is at the Salvage Garage, going to have to look harder. It is driving me nuts.

Can't you just run a jumper wire for the starter and make it work by basically hot wiring it?
When I am troubleshooting stuff like that, I take the very basic route and eliminate as much as I can to verify what works and what doesn't.
Power wire from battery to starter solenoid, if it clicks, then you know that works, etc.
Then you could at least get it running and drive it inside for a deeper dive.

I have alligator clips on the ends of wires, makes it super fast and easy.

That's how I start my '69 Bronco, but I have one of those fancy push-button deals.

I used my fancy push bottom deal, it is inside. A few tests should determine if it is the switch or the wiring, the switch has several wires an a big plug attached to it, I need to consult the manual.

I read your last few entries, sitting in the shop, and it seems like we're in the same boat. We need to get our 5hit organized. If only the fires would die down long enough for us to do that. I'm thinking 4-6 solid weeks, when I'm not beat to h3ll, and I could get it where it needs to be. Good luck today.

I think I have a few months of organizing to do between both locations. My biggest hurdle is that I have to setup my stock room at the Salvage Garage and that will take months to do on its own because it involves moving essentially everything and building the aisle saver system for the Conex. I have things pretty much figured out, I just need to get the Conex emptied out so I can start fabricating things, once that is done, then I have lots of room for the stuff that needs to be moved out of the shop. I don’t think it will happen this winter, I know it would be easier to move a bunch of stuff outside temporarily, that way the shop would essentially be empty, but doing that in the winter is risky.

I spent the last ten minutes at the SG looking for the weatherpack kit, not visible to the naked eye......

I have to order some more stuff anyways, I have run into trouble not having enough wiring and test equipment, it has either been a show stopper, an expensive NAPA run, or a trip to the Hill, I can't have that happen, it kills productivity and just pisses me off.

It is colder than I want it to be this morning, but we are supposed to be in the upper 40s most of the week, so I can handle it, i think.

Today is move yo $hit day, lots of stuff, lots of moving, not even sure where everything is going yet. I was working on the gravel that came from the tower site yesterday, if I finish moving that, I will have room to park some bigger stuff, just need to get it done.

I think I have a few months of organizing to do between both locations.

My brain does not function properly when stuff is disorganized. I find that it helps if I take an appetite suppressant on new purchases if they will increase clutter or distract me from the task at hand. I'm not nearly as frazzled when I'm not jumping from one project to another.
