Interesting estate sale yesterday, and I went back today to see what else was there. Basically a packrat’s shop plus collection of odd items scattered all throughout the rooms of an old corner store. It was worth going back, I got access to stuff that was taped off by asking if I could look.

yesterdays’s finds

Ridgid vise, Champion hatchet, Ace adj. wrench, US Camillus pocket knife(poor shape), small Sterling voltage meter (looked cool), Greb ? gear puller jaws, Veterans key driver, unmkared rat (GM Co?), Craftsman long c ext. and drag link socket, S-K 1/4” rat, Worth 12” adj. wrench, a neat Stark Products tap wrench, Harman Farm folding screwdriver, 3 SnapOn pcs, Blue Point tube cutter and wire stripper, Mac spring hold down, Williams bearing splitter, small G. ******* Kit Vise, PWA badge off something.

EC Sterns file handle, Craftsman bit driver, Crafsman Circle U t handle, 4 S-K pcs, Bonney dbe, Snap-On cotter pin puller remains, old Utica adjustable, Armstrong t wrench, 3 V8 emblems, a broken Bianchi holster, a round holster with a horse, two little signs,

and the world’s oldest toilet paper holder. I haven’t a clue. Can’t read the patent date.

Everything (but the door knocker and VW emblem) in the last post, this post, and the next post, cost me a whopping....$6  :bounce:
Believe it or not this stuff was all in the scrap pile, other than the VW emblem which I found on the shelf in a closet. Initially I was told 20 but they accepted $10 for it.

I saw the OTC slide hammer sticking out the scrap pile and asked the guy if I could look. Not sure what the brass legs are but they are heavy built and are stamped Parker Hardware NY. Thought the hook was interesting. 3 Greenlee pcs in the box., some Remington 25 auto rounds, Stanley 151 spokeshave, and an old style No 10 Vise-Grip like Don and I were just talking about.

Yes, this stuff was in the scrap pile inside the sale. Those nice Kobalt wrenches! I knew I went back for a reason! Couldn’t believe this stuff was never put out on the tables.

EC0DD896-930F-46F6-BAC1-5235CCDF3875.jpeg

Herbrand hub puller legs were in several scrap bins, I almost left with only 2 of the three. Didn’t test the drill yet. Ampro and 2 Zim pullers. K-D spring compressor, Sears ruler. There were a bunch more tools but nothing else I wanted, plus didn’t know they’d only charge me a couple dollars a pile. The crew was overwhelmed when they set up I think, and just started writing off metal objects that were in that one room.

its pretty small, and cars had much bigger ones typically.
Of course. I didn't mean to suggest this was a garage heater for a car grille. Those were huge. Same "NEVEROUT" brand name, though, suggesting same company perhaps.
How wide is the wick slot? 3/4"?
I'm away from home. I'll measure when I return.
ugly ram door knocker.
I like it. And if you're not keeping it, I bet there are alot of alumni from colleges with rams as their mascot who would probably buy it.

yep... those little barbs function as the "wick riser". width on the wick? I've got a bag of wicks in the garage - let me know. hopefully will get everything shipped out this week after the snow melts. Bk

^ the brass legs are for holding up the brass foot rail that ran along the length of the bar just above ankle height.

POSSIBLY for holding up a luggage rack hand rail on a rail car, but they don't look long enough for that task.

the Ram door knocker thing is pretty awesome.

Found a cast iron whatzit clamped on a joist in the basement of my 1893 house this morning. Posted it in Smoke's "weird things you find in your house" thread. Take a look. Anybody know what it is?
Neat. Never seen one so no help.

Outlaw- thanks.

Four.cycle- that’s it! Thanks. There were some ornate legs marked Taiwan that I left behind.

I think it just swivels Old Man. As 3bay alluded to, it was listed on e-bay, and I just saved the photos from the listing because I'd never seen one like that and didn't think I'd see another.

I will have to take a better look when I can get to them, but they do ratchet. A twist of the handle changes the direction.
Can’t wrap my brain around it..lol

Last but not least...

I glanced at this as I passed it going to the car. I set my stuff in the car and hurried back to ask about it (took all of maybe 20 seconds), but a man was buying it!

Oh well, I thought. Then I saw him inside the sale and asked him if he wanted to sell it. He goes, “Sometimes it’s not meant to be and sometimes you’re only meant to keep things for a few minutes.” He said I could have it, he paid $25. I offered to pay more but he said I could have it for the 25. Man, that was cool of him. As me and his son were getting it from his trunk, he comes walking out with a box of stuff including another item I was going back for. I had to laugh. Similar eye I guess.

Wow! suckage 3Bay! A Dietzgen drafting table base. That can be used a number of ways - I would probably try to find a worthy top and make a small desk out of it.

I don't know anything about it but from the pics it looks like it's a gear but round so it can swivel and still make contact with a pawl regardless of orientation.

Thought it looked like the whole head twisted to change direction from the proto in straightgrain's pic.

Would be interesting to see the patent design.

I haven't posted in a while, but had a pretty good weekend.

Came across this 24” rule, was hard to tell brand at sellers, so I took a chance. Turns out to be a Starrett 100ths to 32nds rule for a combo square.

After a 5 minute cleanup with Kroil and extra fine scotchbrite.

So later on I went to a pick type ad for a estate sale. Turns out it was the same sale Three Bay went to. I beat home to this one!🤣🤣

Heres my finds.
I about tripped over this.
E462A675-7321-4FE0-8AD1-47C0A7F30FF4.jpegIt’s a Hook Eye cutlery grinder. I hoisted up on the bench (next to ThreeBays Ridgid vise) and plugged in, ran fine. This will be a great addition to my 1” belt grinder fleet as I get set up for sharpening.

Next was a Baldor 1/2 HP motor and a older adjustable base. Motor wouldn’t start , just grunted, I took a chance on it being something simple like a start cap. The base is a Lovejoy, all cast iron construction.

So, this is getting weird. Went back to pick sale this morning, I no sooner was leaving and I get a text from ThreeBay telling me he went back also!

I went back after a 2HP Dayton motor that was set up as a buffer.

Well, can’t just go back for one thing.
I missed this cast iron base.

The monthly local flea market was full of holiday stuff today. For a while, I thought I wasn't going to find much. My initial finds were in the "low-rent" section. I often find good stuff there, but today it was pretty slow. I got the items in the first photo from three different sellers, for a total of $5.00:
Flea 2.jpg
Paper towel holder for the shop
Rubber ball for backflushing my glass bead blaster (the old one has been in use since 1985)
Bog sockets, 1/2 dr. 6-pt. in 7/16, 3/4, and 15/16. 8-pt. in 7/16 and 9/16.
Williams Superrench obstruction DOE 1128 7/16
Import depth gage and protractor, Inch and MM (new, in sealed plastic bag)
Pipe reamer, still sharp

All the stuff in the second photo came in one buy, for $30.00. I dug this stuff out from under the table.
Flea 1.jpg
Truck air horns (I pulled them apart to replace the diaphragms)
Crayon box, Binney & Smith (it held most of the small items)
Rockler toolbox lock and two brass hinges (?)
Trammel points for a 1-1/4" wide ruler (point and pencil)
Pocket level
Pittsburg needle file set
Pexto wing dividers
two German drawing compasses
Starrett 12" combination square/center head
machinist square
Starrett protractor
Union USA 5/16 hand reamer
9 Cleveland Twist Drill piloted counterbores,
3/8, 13/32,7/16, 5/8, 21/32, 3/4, 25/32, 13/16, 27/32

Not shown is a computer punch card cabinet with pull-out drawers, $40.00.

All in all, not a bad morning!

Score! Nice driver.

Humber, I like your thought. Bike stand makes sense.

Darn nice haul Craig. Love the Kit Vise with base and the rolling step stool. That looks handy for your shop.
I saw that heavy base and was in junk drunk mode. All you need to do it pipe it up to that other piece and add a dolly and you have a sweet bike stand. I'm jealous!

I looked at the scrap pile, found two rolls of galvanized tie wire. I actually picked up the 1/4” SK and set it back! I’m on a diet!🤣🤣

Like Provincial, I too went to the local monthly swap, although I did not have a Provincial sighting. I did, however, manage to find a few treasures:
52544875865_1f70579476_c.jpg
Stanley 1220 egg beater w/ drill points, vintage bicycle bell, and a North Bros. brace marked for the Bell System. $10 for all of that.

Blohm & Voss was the shipbuilding company in Hamburg that built the Bismarck. They also built aircraft for the Wermacht Luftwaffe.

(* thanks to Old Radar for the correction. *)

I am not seeing any connection between "Blohm & Voss" and Robert Blohm of Hamburg.

German tool linkie

Actually, you had it right (enough) the first time. The Luftwaffe was part of the Wehrmacht. The Wehrmacht (Defense Force) included three branches: the Heer (army), the Luftwaffe (air force), and the Kriegsmarine (navy).

I recently was able to save a bunch of milling cutters from the scrap man. Over two hundred cutters, including a set of large gear cutters. I am keeping all the ones with a mounting hole 1" or smaller, as that is as large as my milling machine can handle. I am in the process of finding a home for the remaining 154 cutters. My hope is that they will be used somewhere that either teaches young people how to operate the old "manual" metalworking machines, or a club that will use them to repair/restore/maintain old equipment.

After a few messages back and forth and some logistics issues I was able to pick up this machinist box today. It appears to be a Union DD from roughly 1916-1926. Still sorting, cleaning, identifying tools so I'll make a follow up post later this week.
