Hi GJ,

I just completed the install of my RaceDeck Free-Flow garage floor in the shop side of my garage. Coming from a garage floor that’s been coated and re-coated with Rustoleum Epoxy multiple times, I’m seriously impressed with the Free-Flow tile system and loving it so far. My only regret is that I didn’t go this route sooner. I realize a professionally installed epoxy over a ground floor would hold up very well, but I still think I like the RaceDeck product more! The quality is excellent, installation was a breeze (thanks to my wife for cutting around the 2-post lift footers with a dremel) and the customer support from Abbey in Utah was exceptional. I only broke a handful of tiles out of approximately 1,000 and fortunately Abbey was kind enough to include some extras, so I had no problem completing the entire area.

Besides showing off the garage, which I’m so proud of thus far even though it’s still a work in progress, I do have one problem I’d like suggestions on from my fellow 2-post lift owners who’ve installed RaceDeck flooring. When I lower the lift arms as far as necessary to disengage the pivot lock, they are rubbing on the flooring, which makes them very hard to rotate. I realize I can lift the lock-release pin and rotate the arms that way, but it’s pretty inconvenient and annoying. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is there a way to adjust the depth of the arm pivot lock so it disengages higher off the ground? Any input appreciated.

Finally, a few pics of the finished flooring. Still lots of work to do in the garage, but it’s getting there!

Thanks,
JD

Fun update: I finally finished my RaceDeck flooring install and was lucky enough to procure some of BMW's custom light and dark blue tiles. I played around with some different patterns but decided on classic/straight M stripes. Very happy with how everything turned out.

Nice job! I love my FreeFlow floor, and that became even more evident yesterday when we got our first good snow here in the Boise area. I wheeled out my snow blower to clear the driveway and the wife came home with a slush covered SUV from running errands. No worries with the FreeFlow, all that muck will drain out!

Meanwhile, my neighbor who spent well over $8k on a builder installed epoxy floor came over and was green with envy. After pulling his cars into his huge garage, it was a mess with mud and puddles. He's seriously considering laying FreeFlow over the 1500 sq. ft. floor now. He's 81 and a bit limited in what he can do physically. I told him if he orders up the tiles, I'll install if for him!

Thanks for the kind words! Really nice of you to offer the install. The tiles really are fun to install... my wife has enjoyed taking out her frustrations with the rubber mallet haha. I had the snow blower out once this year and it was so nice letting everything melt off underneath the racedeck. I was still able to walk around the garage with socks. Cleaning underneath will hopefully not be too burdensome in the Spring. The only issue I've run into so far is when pieces of dog food drop between the gaps in the FreeFlow tiles and my dogs become fixated on, but unable to get them out. I have needle nose pliers permanently located on the dog table now... lol!

I hurt my back previous to my tile install. Bending down with a rubber mallet started getting to me so I grabbed a 4' wood 2x4. Made a great tool for locking in the tiles without bending over. Just needed a moderate tap and let the weight of the wood do the work.

I hear you. I started out my 1000 sq ft floor with a dead blow mallet, but then realized that I could simply throw down a tile and stomp it to lock the clips. Goes really fast that way!

Stomping was only 75% effective and still took a lot of work. - at least for me. Maybe sneakers were too soft.
