This is a little project going on now for firewood storage. Had to get a big beam down from the loft in the old barn and setting it up to cut to length. Have the frame constructed and will post some shots of that effort tomorrow.

Progress on the wood shelter. Roof finished up tomorrow and the temporary bracing removed and the permanent bracing started on. The dims are 12x9x~9'. Have some firewood being delivered on Friday.

A White Elephant gift for a "lucky" member in our local 356 Porsche Club. Made from off cuts from some curly maple used on the bathroom cabinet drawers, mahogany from a firewood rack and black walnut from the drawer faces. Of course, a cylinder from a rebuilt 356 engine and a spare key fob to class things up.

Cylinder is removable to put in the refer to help keep the wine cool. It is held in place by a black walnut "Piston" screwed to the base.

Please like the curly maple outfeed table for my table saw too!

Finally starting on the Pre-A Speedster.

With the help of a close friend, we removed the engine and transaxle. Just prior to Thanksgiving, wife and I hauled the Speedster parts along with the engine and transaxle out of the black cabriolet as well for some issues that popped up to a wonderful 356 expert in eastern Washington.

The transaxle from the Speedster is called a 519 (split case) and this is what it looks like inside (save for the ring gear and carrier) and after sitting unused for decades. Believe the reason this car was parked so many years ago is circled in red below with all the parts on the table. That part is the throwout bearing pivot arm return spring, which is broken.

I'm told everything looks great and now, the hope is that the engine will show the same good news.... Trans housing will get shipped off for replating and it will look like new when refinished. Going to jump a lot of hoops with this resto and will tell the story on the reasons why in a later post.

Back at some of the "honey do" tasks. One window to trim out left in the great room only because the pin nailer (23 Gage) went **** up. A new nailer on order and new pins which should have arrived today via Amazon, but the package was empty. Next week will work, and then the paint pros can fix-um-up a bit and caulk/paint.




This month, I'm back on the '71 911T. Have been invited to include this car in an exhibit at the LeMay-America's Car Museum starting the first of February through next January of 2024. Not sure I'll get it running, but it will be ready for display. A little more sanding and polish work and some assembly to be completed. Really happy that there is still room in the attached 4 car garage and can get the "over-run" cars in there.

Some of you may recall the previous owner was on the flight team for the SR-71 Blackbird and used this car as his daily driver to and from the AFB. It's the story behind the car and it's previous owner that makes this one a little more special.

You are right!

A copy (scan) of the photo from the SR-71 book that tells the story of the plane and a bit about each crew member that flew the plane.

The previous owner of the Porsche is the fellow to the viewers right.



Know that work needs to be done to get better resolution of the scan.

An update for the progress made on the 911.

Have the interior back in:



Work in the "frunk" is getting close to complete. Have the fan for heat reinstalled and the header panel along with the new gas tank but the fuel evaporative system won't get finished until the exhibit is over this next January 2024:

As for the Fuchs, have all of the adhesive removed from the balance weights that were installed on the outside of the wheels....
Why do they do this?
Cleaned the inside of the rims which I'm fairly certain it is the first time they have been cleaned. Detailed the wheels and tires. For the wheels, standard practice is to coat the rims with Vaseline petroleum jelly. Remember, this is a driver. Also cleaned the rotors and calipers that were plenty nasty.







Had a good friend volunteer to help out and put him on cleaning up and painting the heater boxes with high temp POR 15. Came out really nice:



He had to use scotch bright to get all the flash rust off and they were in need of that process. Dennis did a wonderful job:



In an earlier post, these were the heater boxes pulled from the engine. They were in very poor condition and full of mouse nest so they were hot tanked:

Very true! Dennis is a fine fellow and appreciative of the help I gave him when his 280SL had a shifting problem. My involvement there was simply informational but did save him from having the car towed off for repair.

Finished off the aftermarket muffler today with the POR 15 High Heat paint. This unit was built by Ansa:

This week will get going on the engine and installing all shrouds, carbs and electrical. Should be just a few days work....

We have had a nice day thus far with a little trip in the '59 Porsche on the back roads of Jefferson County and a stop at the Spruce Goose restaurant at the Pt. Townsend airport for lunch. Then on the way home, we stopped at our favorite sweet shop for some carrot cake to go with the celebration champaign this evening. Yeah, life is good!
