Removed the under engine splash guard.
There's 2 - 6M x 1 bolts in C clips, in plastic - one on each side of the vehicle.

Naturally on of them ripped out of the plastic.

What do you do when this happens?

Is anyone familiar with this exact situation?

I usually be pop rivet a piece of stainless or aluminum to be to the plastic to fix the issue.

I haven't looked at this more closely yet. At a glance it looked as though I might have to take more pieces loose to fix what I broke.

Before breaking it, I tried to see if I could get a Video grip on the clip to hold it, but never figured it out.

Now that it's off I think I could have got a square socket on the square nut welded to the C clip, If I had known how things were put together

I grab the insert with pliers while I unscrew the bolt. It's often best to start removal by hand and then switch to power tools. A stuck bolt will spin the insert and rip the plastic before the bolt breaks free.

To repair, there's often enough plastic left to clip the insert to again. If not, some zip ties in a new hole adjacent to the old one will work.

You may also have luck with expanding type plastic pins where the bolt used to go.

I was exhausted and trying to push - nothing good ever comes of working in that condition.
I couldn't figure out how to get a hold of the C clip and hoped for the bolt to come loose.
Had I moved to the other side, which came apart. I probably could have got in with video grips to hold the C clip.
I'm getting ready to go out and try to repair my damage.
There'll be no zip tying stuff together.
I'll have to figure out a way to get the c- clip in the proper position. I'll probably pop rivet a small piece of stainless or something to the plastic to hold it.

Not familiar with a 2014 but on my 2017 the shield had 3 different fasteners in various locations. I bought a kit off of Amazon ,which I think was for a Nissan ,but it was simply c-clip threaded sockets and bolts with a 10mm head. Now when I go to change the oil I only need 1 tool to remove the shield . I realized that isn't much of a solution to your issue ,but thought it was relevant enough to share.

I bought similar parts and stainless M6 x 1 washer head bolts to use instead of the Phillips screws that came OEM.

It's on my list for today.
Thanks for sharing.
If I get time and think about it, I'll post links to what I bought.
That always makes it easier for next time &/or the next guy.

Don't beat yourself up too badly. Shite happens.

Once, trying to be very careful not to break any plastic clips while removing the inner panel on a rear hatch, I couldn't figure how it should come off. I have a friend who owns a body shop, so I took it to him for expert advice. He just smiled, grabbed it, pulled it off and broke two plastic clips. "That's why we keep a drawer stocked with those."
