You guys will be happy to know I went back and read all 94 pages of this thread. It's so cold I can't stand to be out in the garage. There are a lot of great tools,a ton of great info in this thread.
Agreed on that! You will notice that as the thread matures the quality of content gets better and the info becomes even more well rounded.

Picked up this long c deep 3/8 socket set with most of their blo coating still intact today for $20. I had the missing sockets for the Long C set and got them set into my long c top chest so now I have a full set!

The 39 tool cart disassembled for cleaning. All I wanted to do was pull the drawer out (no drawer slides) but by design, you've got to remove the top of the cart to get the drawer out. I figured I may as well go all in to do a deep clean. There's some fantastic samples of unmolested prewar paint on this thing. I'm convinced the "crystalline finish" is not a result of a chemical reaction but rather some sort of media added to the paint to provide the texture. I plan on coating the pieces with BLO prior to reassembly. tempImageVS6pRE.png

That cart is ridiculously clean! So nice. I used the patina sauce on my 19” top chest and it does have blo in it along with some other additives. It smells a lot better than straight blo as well 😂👍

Thanks Smokes. I took a look at the Sweet Patina product online and ordered a can. I'll use it on the cart.

EDIT: BTW...send me a list of what you're missing for your prewar set and I'll take a look at my spares.

Copy that. I meet up next week with the “west coast black hole of craftsman” next weekend and will let you know what I am still needing. You saw I picked up those “deep” sockets the other day?

I love that sweet patina stuff! It goes on so easy and smells good. I have put it on 2 tool box stacks now and also the 19” top chest. I think you will like it a lot. I see your thread correct drink wear there😂 I saw the photo and was like no way, is that an skf decal? That’s totally a drill press version. That’s awesome!

I think that logo on black is perfectly correct. I'm seeing a lot of black boxes/cases/etc from the pre-war period. I think the blue was a late bloomer.

Here's an early spark plug set. I'm convinced Sears hired drunks to apply their decals.

I was over at you know who’s place last weekend and he had a bunch of black boxes with the long c logo. I saw that “handy set” box he got not long ago and it was black.

Speaking of spark plug socket set boxes. I have that box with a crooked logo and it’s a gray color. Now I just need to find the sockets that go in it

Great thread yall have going here, this is my newest edition a 3/8 drive circle H ratchet. I have a few of the sockets left to find and the part I'm having the toughest time finding is the metal case but that's most of the fun of this is trying to find it.

Welcome aboard! For a metal case I would recommend swap meets, antique shops or at the risk of ratting out a fishing hole, perhaps eBay? Also there are a few collectors groups on Facebook that someone may have one to sell?

Edit- what about these guys?

My wife spotted these rusty and dirty dykes at a Berkeley estate sale yesterday. I knocked off enough rust to see that they were worth soaking overnight in the evaporust. I think they came out pretty well considering.

Nice recovery! Those pliers always seem to respond pretty well to some love and cleaning. I buy em whenever I find them in the wild!

Oddball sized little open-end ignition wrench. Vintage late 1930s Other than the "Dunlap" branded set, I couldn't find any Long C sets in the old catalogs. From the shape, assuming Vlchek contract manufactured.PXL_20230117_023154657.jpg

I see a long C and am guessing Plomb made?

Nice find. It is made by plomb but it’s heritage era, not long c. Offered between 1944-1948 but they are not shown in the catalogs. So in short you are 1/2 right 👍

It was a spray bomb victim I fixed up. C series stuff is not that common but I throw stuff in there when I find it.

1935 Craftsman Ignition Set I just snagged at auction. With the original cardboard insert  I'll snap some better pics once it arrives.

Oh and if anyone is interested...my 1930s era Craftsman CF sockets are on eBay as I'm refocusing my collection a tad. :)
