Foind this old 3/8" drive Fleet non-complete set rescently. I can't seem to find the correct sockets to complete it. Anybody have extra sockets (that I can buy) or know of where I can find them? They all start with ALLOY C-(the number). Any help would be much appreciated!

The only c sockets I have are marked challenger. I am always on the lookout but they are a bit rare.

Came from an ebay seller in Maryland. Here is a later challenger set with what looks like a kilness patent ratchet? I may take it apart to see.

According to this 1948 p&c catalog, this set came optionally with this plomb looking ratchet.

A carefully handled alcohol swab might take that $7.50 off the box lid. You probably don't care but it's what I thought when I saw it...works surprisingly easily if you do care. Cool set!! Beautiful.

Thanks I have tried without success to research the company. You can imagine the results when you Google "rugged tools"

^ It will probably make an appearance somewhere in a "Hardware Age" or "Motor" or some other trade journal or magazine. My best guess is that it was somebody's "house brand" -- but the question is who?

Penens Corp marked 3/8 set I spotted on ebay. Thought the ratchet looked interesting.

This is a Plomb-branded valve spring compression tool for flathead engines:

Specifically for Ford V-8 engines, probably 60 series. There were two different sizes of valve spring used. This only covers one, so early.

Late 50s challenger 3/8 set. Has a mix of penens and Challenger marked tools. Interestingly the logo is not a decal but painted

Those helmet head stamps remind me of the victory cup stamps on vlchek wrenches from that time. I wonder if they were all made by vlchek

Yeah.. that's the line my father was carrying at 38th Street when I was about 12. I have a few Challenger pieces from that era - one of my favorite screwdrivers is an old Challenger.
The helmet, though, has a weird name. I'll know it when I see it. (That headgear has been used anachronistically in a multitude of classical "epic battle scene" paintings.)

Greek armor was referred to as hoplite armor, so maybe it's a hoplite helmet

Here's a Mastercraft by coast to coast set. Tools are generic penens.
