The wheel is green in color, called a green wheel. They work very very well. http://www.travers.com/bench-and-pedestal-green-silicon-carbide-grinding-wheels/p/105547/ For a really fine final finish people use a diamond wheel, that is a lot more money, not needed if sharpening carbide drill bits.

The electronics are probably the same as any other machine. When it arrives, open it up, make sure the screws holding down the FETS or IGBTS are in place and reasonably tight. Place the machine in cooler air and away from dust and fumes. Cover the machine when not in use to prevent grinding...

LOL I see your point. To me that is a very nice looking saw. I would suggest oiling all these bushings and running the saw to determine if there is really a problem in operation BEFORE going Lizzy Borden on it.
