Diff. kind of #2 Phillips bit

Looks like an old Black & Decker Scorpion bit, I don't think they make them anymore. Most manufacturers have drywall screw bits that are similar, but not as hard as the old Scorpions were.

    New tool belt

Congrats on the purchase! I absolutely love my Occidental Leather framer's rig - A lot of thought went into their designs, and the materials and construction are top-notch. It's a good chunk of money to be sure; I've called them "expensive", but that's a relative term. Can something truly be...

    Titanium Hammers

My experience was similar. The Stiletto 14 oz. drove 16d nails just as well as my 23 oz. Vaughan steel hammer. The Stiletto had a different feel for me, in a good way - like less vibration or something, and the balance was great. Also it didn't make a high-pitched ringing sound when it struck...

toolbelt - what do you use?

I like Occidental Leather. They're expensive (my framer's rig cost over $250) but I like their layout and the quality simply can't be beat. Major overkill for home use, but if you use them every day to earn your living, they're worth the money. I'm one of the few tradesman you'll see with...

Simple tools that work well for you

For me, it's magnetic pick up tools. And not just for wrenching on cars - I carry a ~4 foot telescoping Craftsman model in my tool belt at work; it takes up almost no space and weighs next to nothing. Now when I drop a screw or tool while working on a 6 foot ladder, I can pick it up without...

    Screwdriver With Striking Caps?

Exactly! And not all of us tool users work in neat bays with fully-loaded toolboxes at arms length. I install and retrofit commercial door hardware for a living, and while I own more tools than I care to mention, my tools on the job are usually limited to what I can comfortably carry in my...
