    A picture would help me better answer your question, but some light solvents wont do anything to your shear, it has to have a mechanical connection somewhere for it to pivot otherwise it would be fixed and not be able to cut anything!

    Haha, the easiest way to tell is if you open the jaws and there is a cavity then it does not have rhe two piece lock ring, rather it is a a solid collar that attaches to the spindle with a set screw. Great vises too i have a 104 and it works great

I just picked up a 204 as well and it is missing it and i would like to machine a new nut. I dont know if it will have a split...

    I just picked up a really nice reed 204r but it seems to be missing the two piece lock ring for the spindle, does anyone have one they could send me some dimensions of or is that the wrong style shaft colar for this era vise?

    there could be dirt in the channel that the nut slides in, it has a machined dovetail (if it is similar to mine) and if there is dirt in there it will get hung up on that

    I would weld a pin in, but i would make it so it has a shoulder on that really opened up section and then machine off the excess weld

    Something i have never seeen before, a york “bullet” style vise 5inch jaws with a swivel base for $65 is this a good buy i cant seem to find any info on them

    I would starting hitting the bolt with some pb blaster or something similar to try and loosen up that bolt, or you could take it apart as much as you can and soak in vinegar or evaporust to help free it up.
