    Vintage Reed vises

I have a model 404R that was missing its static jaw locking pin. After many careful measurements I turned a new pin from a grade 8 bolt. The angle that works is 4 degrees per side, 8 degrees included. Just thought I would share what I learned because I couldn’t find it anywhere. Sent from my...

    Show us your VFD conversions/installations

Hey folks. I apologize if this has already been mentioned but there are a metric $&?! Ton of posts. VFD produce a buildup of rotor current that is discharged through the bearings particularly at frequency less than 30 hz. This may not be a factor considering run hours of shop equipment. But in...

Brand new Quincy QT-5... Rod Knock?

That sounds normal to me. I have 25 years experience around industrial air compressors. I noticed that the plate the pump is mounted to is pretty thin I think some improvements could be made there. That is probably a measure on Quincy’s part to make the unit affordable. Their true industrial...

The “window” was originally a ******** and I’ve seen bottles to prove it when they got missed. I have a picture somewhere and...

    Air Compressor shed ideas/tips needed.

I’m not sure about what defines an expensive low noise compressor in this case. But a low speed recip located in-shop will likely be cheaper in the long run than a noisy direct drive with a structure built to contain it. With “shed” locations oil needs to be considered. Most compressor oils are...

    Need Air Line Adapter Advice

If you’re working with 1/4 OD tube and 1/4 NPT threads, Swagelok fittings would be the way to go. I’m not sure what your budget is, they’re not exactly cheap.

Am I in the right place?

Hey guys and gals. I found this forum after looking for info on vintage bench vises. Turns out I found a gold mine. I’m not sure if I’m posting to the right section or not. I’m 42 and spent the first 13 years of my career as a machinist (and I don’t mean loading a part and pressing the green...
