The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

The bottom drawers were there when Dad took over the station, so I have no idea whether the original owner bought them immediately or added them later. They are very clearly an optional add-on (add-in?) to make more efficient use of the "cave" in that space. I've owned a rollaway with the big...

    1-3/16” combination wrenches

I have a Cornwell 1-3/16". I can't recall what I used it for, but I do recall being grateful I had it.

    Let's show our wood (screwdrivers)

I'll start with my two favorites: and here are others: and, wandering from the topic, some wooden handled nut drivers:

    Random 1/2" ratchets

The Bog Mfg. ratchet print seems pretty small, but I don't know what large print on these looks like. As to the Husky ratchet, the date stamp is 5-46, so it's older than I am.

    Random 1/2" ratchets

For absolutely no good reason, I thought I'd post pics of a few of the interesting 1/2" drive ratchets in my herd. The Bog Mfg. No. 643 ratchet here was in my paternal grandfather's garage, from which it moved to Dad's, and ultimately to me when we cleared out the house after Dad's death/Mom's...

The VINTAGE toolboxes of Garage Journal!

This RemLine rollaway cabinet was in the Texaco gas station that Dad operated for several years in the early 60s: When he cleaned out the station after Texaco cancelled the franchise/lease with a month's notice, this followed him home to the garage, where it lived until we cleared out the...

My cheap and effective alternative to pegboard

I have open stud bays in my shop (no garage; it's an 11 by 11 foot space), and I do the same thing to the back side of the wood siding, so the only cost was the nails. I use the sides of the studs, too.

Tool pouch that can be used alone, on a belt, on a shoulder strap, and on a ladder?

CLC has a whole range of pouches designed to slide onto a tool belt: https://goclc.com/product-category/work-gear/tool-pouches/. Add a belt, and you can sling it over your shoulder or wrap it around your waist. I do that regularly.

    Stethoscope selection

I've got a subtle water leak in my house plumbing - I think it might be in one of the irrigation controls. I'm considering getting a mechanic's stethoscope to help me, and have a couple of questions: 1. Are there particularly good or bad brands I should be aware of? I'm not looking to spend...
