    Retirement barn

Hung 12 40 watt LED lights. Got them on sale at Job Lot for $12.00 each. Bought 18 of them but the 12 seem sufficient for my use. Bill C

    Retirement barn

After determining we were staying in our house in Mass. for retirement, got the OK to put up a barn. Decided on a metal 24'x40' with 12' sidewalls and 3 10'x10' roll up doors. Went with a 6" slab with 4000# concrete.

AA and AAA batteries that won’t self destruct?

Always used Duracells but seem to have problems in LED flashlights that are not used, all sizes from AAA to D's. Even had some expired ones that were out of date for 2 years let go in their package (they were in my late father's box of batteries). Am now trying to keep batteries out of devices...

    Hello from southeastern Massachusetts

6" thick slab is sitting since June 12 waiting for the installation of a 24'x40'x12' high sidewalls TNT metal building. Will have 3 10'x10' roll up doors and a 36"x80" man door. Will try to post photos in a separate build thread, Bill C

    Bob's Carriage House

mgbbob, are those 10x10 doors and 12' sidewall height? I am waiting on the installation of a 24x40 (that looks like it may be the same manufacturer). Bill C

    Question about cement pads

No footer. Was originally going with a monolithic pour with a 4" slab, but decided on 6" slab for the whole thing. The inspector felt that the steel building I am installing has very little weight to it so he would have been ok with a 4" slab.

    Question about cement pads

Sorry for the confusion. The $1300 was for labor and forms. It took 17 yards of concrete that was $1860 with tax. I did the site prep and they cut down a couple of high spots. Bill C

    Question about cement pads

just did a 24x40, 6" thick, 4000 psi mix. I paid $1300 that included the materials for the forms, spreading the concrete, and a smooth, hand troweled finish. Power trowel would have been the same price. I am awaiting the erection of my steel building also. Bill C '

Insulating the inside of a pole barn

Make sure you are not voiding your warranty on your panels. Some of the metal building manufacturers state that spray foam will void the warranty on the panels. Bill C

Save or bulldoze to the ground and start over again

40 years ago my dad rebuilt a 1 1/2 car garage that had been built on a combination stone/dirt foundation. The reason for rebuilding instead of replacing was because it was originally built on the adjacent property and a land swap was required before they passed papers. He borrowed 4 adjustable...
